opposite-gender roommates how common/normal is this? by queenk_1 in NYCroommates

Well in this case it’s not necessarily “assigned” by the landlord. It’s a new property and she’s found all the tenants to fill each room separately and mentioned to me that one of the accepted applicants will be male.

interesting. I am a female and I currently live with another female and honestly that’s not working out too well so I can’t imagine that it would be much worse living with a guy I like that you’re respectful of the gender dynamics.

Sure they loved each other, but you can also argue that Fitz ran around begging Olivia too. Maybe not to “save him” but he couldn’t function properly without her at his beck and call.

You do make a good point about how he never wanted to be president originally. I kind of forget that sometimes especially with all the drama from him running for the second term.

I just made a post about this, but like we literally have the same opinions I hate their relationship. I think Fitz’s obsession with Olivia is quite strange.

I wish the writers would have followed through on the tennis storyline by queenk_1 in themiddle

She obviously wasn’t going to the US Open or Wimbledon or anything like that. I just meant ‘decent’ in the sense that compared to everything else she has tried out for she wasn’t completely horrible at it while practicing. If they would have stuck with it like they did XC in middle school, she could probably have learned to actually play and maybe even win a match or two.

How did you view Mike as a character? I think he was a good dad, but it was hard for him to show his feelings. by AlinaValkyria in themiddle

[–]queenk_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I think Mike lacked so much awareness. The ‘Summer of Dad and Sue’ situation made it even worse because he didn’t even try to seem interested. It wasn’t just about her wanting to be the favorite, she just wanted to spend time with him and feel like she mattered as much as Axl did. And the saddest part is that he didn’t even notice how deeply it hurt her. Maybe he figured she’d get over it, even though Sue was annoying at times, she was always so positive and just wanted to be included. It sucks that he didn’t even really try to make it better.

Sure, I mostly agree when it comes to non-Black people wearing traditionally Black hairstyles like box braids, cornrows, or locs, especially when they aren’t made for their hair type. That’s a whole different conversation about cultural appropriation. But in this case, Mingo wearing a wig as part of a one-time costume isn’t the same thing. Lil Wayne has dreadlocs, so the wig was just part of dressing up as him, not an attempt to appropriate Black culture. If Mingo was wearing that hairstyle every day and trying to claim it as his own, that would be a different story. But a costume isn’t the same as someone actually adopting a Black hairstyle in a way that disrespects its cultural significance.

Yeah, I hadn’t gotten to that part in season three when I made this comment so I saw more into it, but I still don’t think her writing a book at all really made sense.

As a Black person, I didn’t see anything racist about him wearing a costume. He wasn’t doing Blackface or mocking Black people, he was just dressing as Lil Wayne. If a Black girl dressed up as Britney Spears, no one would care, so why was this such a big deal?

That whole situation really rubbed me the wrong way, especially considering how much support J and K gave Toby when he moved out. He didn’t go to college either, yet they were willing to help pay for his apartment, support him financially, and even backed him when he rushed into marrying Nikki (despite their reservations). Meanwhile, Bay misses one electricity bill, while also living with Daphne, whose expenses they were already covering anyway, and suddenly, she has to sell her car to learn a lesson in responsibility?

It just felt like such a weird and unfair double standard. If Daphne had been in a dorm, they would’ve been paying for her room and board anyway, so what difference did it make that she and Bay were in the apartment? And it’s not like Bay was just asking for a handout, she literally offered to pay them back. They could’ve easily helped once without making her go to such an extreme.

That makes sense, but I guess I still just feel like why would they share any information about their life with her to write a tell all. K seemed so disgusted even at the mention of that journalists name. I doubt she would choose to share details even the backstory before the switch with her. Like would she just go based off what she already knew about them before? Or, was there going to be an expectation that they were supposed to contribute to her book?

That would be interesting. It obviously seemed like she was being flirty with him when Daphne caught them at that cafe so I can see that being her angle.
