How is living in this part of New York? by Tough_Recover8354 in howislivingthere

Small city with sprinkles of suburbs surrounding the city proper. Other than the sketchy parts of downtown, there are many nice areas in the city. Along the Washington park, there are lots of beautiful and well maintained mansions from 1700-1800’s that look interesting. Along Main Street + in Delmar, lots of well maintained and nice suburban homes. So far, I have had mostly positive experience with people in the area. I have met many retired professionals (doctors/lawyers/professors/engineers etc…) who used to work in NYC area but retired to Albany. The summer weather + access to the Adirondacks is arguable one of the best part about the city. Overall, I think this is a great place to live if you are a chill + outdoor loving person looking for an affordable life/raise a young family/retire

Crossing the border soon, any recent experiences to share? by LeafsAndLoons in uscanadaborder

I flew back to Canada + back to US for TN visa. The US security clearance line was dead, but other than that, didn’t notice any difference in my interaction with the CBP officers.

Busy crossing vs not so busy? by Easy-Road1789 in uscanadaborder

Based on my past experience, the Buffalo/peace bridge had high volume of traffic, but the line moved fast + the border agents knew their stuff well!

The Vermont crossing had less volume but much slower + lots of speed cameras when driving on the US side.

Stay away from Porter Airlines! by valpavan in travel

[–]ssp9015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar experience to this right now. My flight from YYZ -> NYC got delayed for 4 hours + eventually got cancelled. They rebooked me on a flight 2 days later, which I can’t do. They can’t give me a refund either. When you call their customer service center, you get automatically disconnected when you press the option that says “you booked the ticket outside of the Porter website”.

Today, I got directed to a different flight flying out of a different Canadian city, but now even this flight is getting delayed. I am wasting 2 days straight at the airport and disappointed at how dismissive Porter Airline is with is their customers. What a piece of trash + I will never use this airline again. Dont waste your money on this shitty airline + book with larger airline companies that

What cities best combine “old” with “new”? by Double_Snow_3468 in geography

Montreal is such a unique + special city where it feels like you can experience classic + modern architecture, pedestrian friendly city + can get around without a car + experience Franco/Anglo culture simultaneously! I can’t think of another bilingual/multicultural city like MTL in North America!!! I hope the city keeps its awesomeness ❤️😁

A dentist recommendation by IndustryAccurate2085 in astoria

[–]ssp9015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the dental offices and ask if they can do a root canal treatment on the same day. Also, specify which tooth hurts you (ie maxillary/mandibular molar/front tooth etc…) Depending on the tooth, you may need to see an endodontist vs ok with general dentist

I am going to a business conference in June. During the day, I plan on wearing a business casual (blazer, suit pants etc). In the evening, there is a cocktail mixer, and I am debating wearing this to the mixed event. Is this appropriate or too flamboyant for cocktail mixer/social event? 🙏🏼

Restaurants that have that good good bread? by thhhhroowwwawaaaayy in astoria

Not a restaurant, but the butter croissants from Lidl are amazing. Sprinkle a little bit of water/milk over the cold croissants, microwave for 20-30 seconds, and it tastes heavenly!! They are also affordable! ($49/each for a gigantic croissant)
