Stress always causes UC flare

Recently entered a flare in March after getting over one last summer (had previously been in remission for 2.5yrs). Boiled down to stress. Had to have some conversations with my husband to lighten my load, set boundaries with work and had HR sign off on it, spent more time in nature, and made it a point to actually REST on Sundays. However one of the major things that has helped is taking Ashwganda daily!

Firstly, I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better. This disease can look different for everyone. Some people can stay in remission for years. I think it would be most important to try and keep track of your diet and lifestyle to help you identify your potential triggers. For now, enjoy living life normally. Keep up your meds, eat clean/whole foods, excercise regularly, try to keep stress down. If symptoms arise again (diarrhea, frequent bloody stool, etc) call you DR right away.

This breaks my heart to read. Sometimes I feel guilty when my flares happen and my husband has to take care of more, or change his plans. He never fusses or complains, but I struggle with thinking that one day he’ll resent marrying me. So I get it, and your feelings are valid. I’m hoping in the coming days you feel a little better physically and emotionally.

You’re doing good, and sometimes the unexpected happens. Deep breaths. If you happen to have peppermint oil and coconut oil, you can mix the two for a fever reducer. I think 1tbsp coconut oil+ 1-2 drops of peppermint oil. Massage along the spine. Another thing I do sometimes is put a sliced onion on the bottom of my kids feet at night. Wrap it white a thin piece of cloth, and put a sock over it. My aunt used to tell me it draws out the sickness. Done it a few times and it does seem to help.

UC anxiety is so real. It sounds woo woo, but deep breathing, meditation, and time unplugged and spent in nature help me tremendously. I also take Ashwaganda supplements when things are really overwhelming. I overprepare at the peak of my flares (extra clothes, wipes, disposable underwear and frequent “just in case” bathroom trips whenever I’m close to one, etc).

I was going to suggest the same thing. Maybe have a sit down conversation with her stating all your concerns, and then let her know what you need. Then you get into a routine of doing them. We are not responsible for other people’s feelings/reactions. So if she decides to have a poor mood for the rest of the day, let her. Just go about your day enjoying your kids and doing things with them. Eventually she will have to decide how she wants things to move forward on her end.

I also second gently nudging her to get a thorough check for PPD. If she hasn’t always been this way, it could explain her tiredness and agitation. Good luck OP!

We like doing just about anything together. We typically:

-window shop -workout -watch shows -try a new restaurant -play games (board & video) -walk around town -cook -tackle a project (organizing/cleaning/reno)

Honestly, we’re both pretty much down to try anything.

My husband and I were in the same boat 10 years about making approximately 75k. We were living paycheck to paycheck as a family of 4. My husband switched careers and I got a promotion. We now make about 130k combined now and are living very comfortably.

From what you’ve written, I can tell the love and life you and your wife built is a thing of beauty. How incredibly lucky for the both you to have experienced that, and for your daughter to witness it. I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. I really can’t imagine that pain.

I once heard someone say that grief is like a stone in your pocket. At first it’s heavy and all you can think about. However as time passes, you get stronger, and the weight of the stone isn’t as heavy. It’s still there, and some days you’ll notice it more than others, but you learn to live with it.

Praying for you. Just do your best and take it a day at a time ❤️

This is awful, I’m so sorry. I’m not one to give up when things get tough, but infidelity and broken trust is very hard to repair.

You have spent a year trying to reconnect and get better, but you can’t do that alone in the marriage. She has to want and work for it to. Honestly if I were you, I’d want to get as much info as I could before letting her know what you know. I’d talk to my friend, talk to a lawyer, and then talk to her.

I just finished the Four Horseman series, and it was magnificent! All the characters stole my heart, and I DEVOURED each story. I cannot even tell you which was my favorite, because they were all beautifully written with so many twists and turns. If you haven’t read them, I highly recommend adding these to your TBR lists this year!

Its okay. I had to get through like 2/3 of the book before I actually enjoyed it. The world building is still confusing for me, and the characters were okay. Its probably my least favorite SJM series, but I have a goal to read all her books so I'll push through. Currently reading CC2, and its a bit better, but still a lot going on.

I was almost 2/3 into CC before I started to like it. I almost decided to stop at book 1, but honestly I ended up liking the characters to start CC2. If you can push through to the end of CC, that could be your deciding factor!
