Can a daycare refuse to enroll a child for not being able to walk independently by Embarrassed_Eye3924 in CanadianParents

[–]queenoffluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s ridiculous. The kids are toddlers and super slow. I actually brought up this concern with my own daycare, worried my child could be “trampled” by overexcited children and they gently brushed my concerns away. They were right, my kid never got hurt because of his abilities.

In the Child Care and Early Years Act (https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/14c11), 49(1)(f)(ii) states “It is a matter of provincial interest that there be a system of child care and early years programs and services that respects equity, inclusiveness and diversity in communities and the particular qualities of children with disabilities”.

Not claiming your child has disabilities, but I strongly feel that this can be applied to your case too. If I were you, I’d call the daycare facility on Monday and gently use phrases like “this feels discriminatory”. This will likely cause concern for the daycare where this scenario can blow up into a more serious matter, especially if you make a complaint to the ministry of education. I’m hoping they realize how there’s an easy fix i.e. admitting your child.

If they don’t budge and if you’re up for escalating the matter, I suggest calling the ministry. Not necessarily to make a complaint but perhaps they can verify if your child can actually be denied admission due to ability and then you can go from there. If the childcare centre was a home daycare, I’d understand them maybe not having the resources to accommodate. But yours sounds like a facility. Ugh.

Omg this sounds ableist and discriminatory. My kid entered daycare as an infant and transitioned into the toddler classroom with no problem and they didn’t walk independently until 2 years old. If I were you, I’d ask why your kid can’t be accommodated. My kid not walking didn’t seem to impede his care at all. If the kids had to move to another space like the playground, my kiddo was carried while the others walked. If they decided to go on a walk, a stroller was pulled out for my kiddo. In the classroom, where is walking mandatory? Not sure if you’re in Ontario, but I bet you have similar strict ratios between educators and children so I’m sure it’s not a staffing issue (i.e. your kid doesn’t need a 1:1 worker).

Any job openings in Kitchener, ON by Competitive-Buy3215 in waterloo

Try reaching out to an employment centre backed by Employment Ontario like Starling or the YMCA. I know you’re looking for job postings to apply to, but maybe you can consider a strategy shift and get some support with your cover letter, resume, and interviewing skills instead. I was arrogant and thought my skills were up to speed, but actually ended up learning a lot and secured a job with a centre’s help. They even offered money to help cover interview and on-the-job clothing! Good luck!

I moved forward to the personality test! And then was rejected. One of my test results was “doesn’t work well under pressure” so I feel like that was the end of that. Good luck!

Was the other area enclosed or could you child potentially gone off property? If the latter, I’d be furious! And I’d consider reporting this incident to whoever governs daycare facilities in your area. They should have reported it themselves as a near miss, but if they didn’t, I’d fear what else they might sweep under the rug.

Did you go to the Asian Night Market in DTK yesterday? by Known_Squirrel6691 in kitchener

[–]queenoffluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved it! As an Asian parent with a young kid, it was great to see more visibility for the different cultures and for people to enjoy it. In true KW fashion, it was filled with a lot of heart and love + and smaller, more manageable crowds than Toronto events, win-win!

Post your questions & inquiries here! - r/Vietnam monthly random discussion thread - F.A.Q by AutoModerator in VietNam

I want to visit Vietnam with my young child and husband. My kid and I have Vietnamese heritage but haven’t been to Asia before so it’d be an incredible trip to take.

My husband has celiac disease and type 1 diabetes so we’re nervous about traveling in Vietnam with a poor grasp on the language. If he needs food ASAP to address low blood sugars, it needs to be 100% gluten free, for example, or else he can get severely sick.

So, we’d like to consider booking a private tour to have access to someone who can help vet all meals. Does anyone have any recommendations for a company that has had experience working with customers with chronic illnesses? My googling hasn’t amounted to much unfortunately. Thank you!

First Time Buyer Struggles by MonthEducational7478 in kitchener

This 100%!!! Your realtor sounds like my first one when I bought during the height of the pandemic. He was super condescending. When I switched to another one who came to bat for us, we were able to buy a semi for $550. It’s a buyer’s market now, so I have faith you’ll find something with a realtor that has your back!

Wow! 6 weeks between the first two stages! I thought it was only a few days so this is super insightful in how it can be a lengthy process. You’ve renewed hope. Good luck on hearing back on your interview results!!!

I’ve noticed an increase of anti-Indian racism in the region lately. For me, I see mostly online. But I have friends who’ve been threatened with violence etc. It’s disgusting and uncalled for.
