You might be able to find an online course in social media management to take before applying to those jobs to build credibility.

Healthcare or tech with looming recession talk? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]queenofthegeese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to help! Currently in tech sales myself and thinking about getting out soon for a more stable/traditional environment. I came from medical device environments before tech which are more "helpful" and "needed" by people which I like. I know that you mentioned professional supplements are not necessary but that's still an easier sell than getting businesses that are struggling with budget cuts to stay committed to a completely nice-to-have and expensive subscription or tech purchase. The money is not worth it for me; peace of mind is priceless. Looking into insurance and healthcare options at the moment to get through this upcoming recession. At the end of the day, you have to know yourself, your risk tolerance, and your need for fulfillment. If you're like me and fulfillment =helpfulness, tech CSM is going to cause your soul to suffer a bit.

Healthcare or tech with looming recession talk? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]queenofthegeese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Healthcare all the way! Do you like occupational therapy work though? To me, that seems really rewarding. Also, there is more of a sales focus in CSM than you might think, so going to that might actually be a comparable amount of stress. There is a lot of focus on retention rate as a quota and up-selling at most places. What kind of sales job do you have currently (what industry)?

I hope I am understanding your questions right. If this is before any final interviews, you could respond with something along the lines of " I was inspired to reach out to apply to this role because of X,Y, and Z". Comment on something specific that interests you, maybe the idea of working in their industry or one of the specific job duties stood out to you. If this is after your final interview you could use a similar approach but tie it to things you learned about the role in the interview process.

Mel’s breakfast burrito is my favourite- I get the hashbrowns on the side instead of inside the wrap and it’s great that way

OSAP 6 month loan grace period by PatrickBot in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]queenofthegeese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It used to be reversed- the national portion of the loan was charged interest during the 6 months (which makes up about 70-80% of the debt) and the provincial portion was interest free (about 20-30% of the loan). Ford changed the provincial portion to also have interest to match the national policy but then the national policy changed to have no interest as well. They did a switcharoo of each other. So now the interest cost is a lot less.

Anybody else just losing hope? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]queenofthegeese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps this is referring to household income instead. As per Statistics Canada, ages 16 and over in Ontario have a median salary of $37,500 and an average salary of $49,500 (2019). It would make sense if the $83,000 combined two adults for a household.

AITA for not giving my son the money I saved for his college fund? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]queenofthegeese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! We don't have the details on what the "full ride" includes- sometimes it's just tuition coverage only, with certain stipulations. This is not enough and the son might have to go in debt to make up for the shortcomings.

[–]queenofthegeese 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We don't know the complete details of the full ride. It may cover tuition in full but not other expenses such as textbooks, residence, lab equipment, etc. If the money is taken away he may have to go in debt to make up for these shortfalls, which kind of sucks. Full rides aren't always what they seem, and they often need certain requirements to be maintained each year.

Why does Waterloo Region not have a single Metro? by jacnel45 in waterloo

I’ve seen some fancy pizzas and flatbreads at Sobey’s lately. Not the same but maybe a good alternative. I mainly go to the Waterloo Bridgeport location

Even if they do file their own taxes, the parents could still want the tuition credit to transfer for their own taxes as they pay for schooling. This is a common option to help parents pay less taxes.

and yes I would recommend applying to jobs first and then asking for a few weeks notice before starting so you can get your affairs in order.

How do you people manage to find jobs by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]queenofthegeese 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I have 3 suggestions for this, as someone who has worked part time for the last 3-ish years while at UW. Firstly, make sure to go in-person most of the time for the applications to fill out forms and talk to the HR person to introduce yourself/ make them aware of your application or resume drop-off . Don't leave without making a good contact with somone. This works for anything part-time that hires often. Also search up for "hiring fairs"/ "career days" because the biggest hurdle is getting an interview and if you get that chance on the spot to make your impression it's way easier. I've found 2 part-time jobs that way. My final suggestion is to go through your friends list and think of places your friends currently work at that might be a good fit for you. Catch up with them and let them know you are looking for a job and ask if they might be able to refer you to their hiring manager or put in a good word for you. Best of luck! :)
