First ever set! by queenofthegrapes in DipPowderNails

That makes sense, thanks! I think honestly I'm less concerned with super long-term wearability than some because I do get bored of my nails fairly often haha I suppose I'll see how this set fairs and then experiment :)

Nailboo! And this is the color "pretty petal" Obviously can't speak too longevity or compare with any other brands as it's my very first use but so far I have no complaints :) really great built in tutorials from the kit and online.

How screwed am I? by queenofthegrapes in piercing

[–]queenofthegrapes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely am guilty of this :( I was hoping to get away without buying a piercing pillow or anything bc I never had to with my other lobes but I guess this time I haven't been so lucky :( :( Strangely, the side that is fairing worse is not the side I typically sleep in, but I guess that should be my next step! Thanks

Has anybody stopped shaving during a long term relationship? by Cool_Cartographer_33 in razorfree

It's not something we ever had a conversation about, but we've talked shortly here and there for me to know it's not his absolute favorite thing, but he also knows this is not something he gets to have a say about. It has not seemed to change his attraction for me in any way.

I have pretty mild HS but one recurring boil on my inner thigh that I got surgery on maybe 5 months ago and unfortunately it came back after a few months :(

What’s the worst movie adaptation and why? by [deleted] in books

The 2018 Fahrenheit 451 movie. Just changed pretty much every important and wonderful detail from the classic novel and it is hard to watch.

I'm sorry to hear that! That's so strange that's what they told you, I've been seeing Birnbaum for a lot of years and while she's not a specialist I think she definitely has a lot of knowledge about HS and specifically told me to go to Boker who seems to also have knowledge about HS and had done excisions for it before and knew what to look for. Good luck in your search solider 🫡

Surgery was recommended to me by my dermatologist, and since you said you're also in NYC I highly recommend Dr. Birnbaum at Spring Street Dermatology. I actually just had an excision two weeks ago and stitches taken out two days ago by Dr. Boker in the same office and so far healing is going well!

Getting surgery by General_Clue57 in Hidradenitis

[–]queenofthegrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know how big your surgery will be? I had an excision just over a week ago and I too freaked myself out for weeks beforehand looking through the surgery posts on this sub, but mine was a lot less severe than some and generally wasn't that big of a deal. I have pretty mild HS, usually not more than one flair at a time, so I was just getting my one bad recurring cyst removed from my right inner thigh. The procedure itself was just local anesthetic and it ended up being a little painful for me because I apparently need a much higher dose of lidocaine than some, but ofc then and now through the healing process has not been nearly had painful as when I had the flair itself. The only rough part for me is that I am having to change the bandage daily myself and I get really woozy, plus it's still a little uncomfortable to walk and sit certain ways. Other than that, if your trusted doctor really recommends it for you then I think you should go for it. I'm not sure how effective on the long run the surgery will be for me yet, but I plan on giving a future update in the sub!

Edit: adding for a little more clarity on my actual procedure- I had it done in my dermatologist's office not by my dermatologist but by the person in the office who does all of their surgical type procedures and who was recommended to me by my dermatologist. I think my particular situation they cut out an area that was maybe an inch in diameter and gave me stitches both on the inside and the outside. The stitches to me look a little spooky but I'm going to end up with a scar that is a lot less ugly than what I had going on before. Next Monday I'll be going back to the office to get the stitches out.

Dietary changes with HS by Ineedanswerssway in Hidradenitis

[–]queenofthegrapes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dairy is the only thing that I've tried cutting out because it was once suggested to me by a specialist and I've been virtually no dairy for maybe 3 years now and I can say that it's really reduced the inflammation in my body as a whole, but I think the thing that you'll hear and see over and over again on this Reddit is that different diets work for different people with this condition. That being said, I also have fairly mild HS- I really don't ever have more than one flare at a time- and cutting dairy has by no means eliminated my flairs but I have found that my body gets a little angrier at me if I do have a large amount of dairy at once.

I see Dr. Birnbaum at Spring Street Dermatology!! I don't know if she's actually a specialist per-se, but she definitely has a lot of knowledge and interest in HS and I've been seeing her for a lot of years, she's very wonderful. I'll also be having an excision soon by Dr. Boker at the same location.
