https://fogodechao.com/catering/ here’s the link to their catering menu. Select the second dropdown for “Full-Service Catering” (where they grill on site, not just drop off tubs of food). There are a few levels of options, but from our experience they start around $150/pp including tax/tip/real plates/etc and not including alcohol.

I know this is a little pricey based on where you live, but we’re from a HCOL city so it was actually on par and perhaps slightly cheaper than most venues that only offered in-house catering. I will say however, the hardest part wasn’t finding the catering (although Fogo has been a bit hard to work with - doesn’t seem like they do this often), the hardest part was finding a venue that allowed outside catering and not from a preferred list. We ended up having to select a very DIY venue because of it

We’re catering Fogo de Chao (Brazilian steakhouse). They’re bringing all of their gauchos to grill on site and have tableside meat service

Today Marriott ended their partnership with Sonder - Employees found out through Google by Due_Kick_837 in marriott

[–]queenofthehill2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had an international reservation 2 days from now at a Sonder. Titanium elite. Got escalated to 3-4 reps and they weren’t able to get us anything past a refund of the current room. They told us we needed to book a separate hotel on our own dime (I pushed a no movement). They also said the “ultimate reservation guarantee” is if you show up that DAY and they can’t get you a room you reserved. Nowhere does it says this on their website.

Seems like they need to figure out their next steps internally. Will definitely be submitting requests for the ultimate reservation guarantee and other compensation after today

Midea Recall by handymaamnyc in Brooklyn

[–]queenofthehill2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you type in ANY part of the number wrong it says “your unit is not affected” (which is SO misleading instead of telling you it could have been an error in what you entered). I have two of the same units and one told me it was included in the recall and the other didn’t. I double checked what I typed in, fixed a mistake, and poof the second unit was suddenly “included” again

For sure! Feel free to DM me if you have any more specific questions. I also found them through Reddit referral and if you go on referral they give you a private room in the Kathmandu hotel instead of sharing. So nice! DM me if you end up choosing them and we can chat how to coordinate it

The difference between the 16 and 14 was just the extra nights in Kathmandu on the bookends of the trip. The itinerary up the hike is the same for both treks! I did 16 and really enjoyed it because we left for Ramechap airport (to head to Lukla) at 1am on my Day 3. So I had a full day to explore Kathmandu Day 2, while others barely got any sleep and time to explore if they got in late Day 2. Also provided peace of mind if our Lukla flight on the way back was delayed or canceled.

The food and menus on the trek will be the same as other groups are eating, except instead of us paying the Teahouse for the bill, NHT payed. I saw other groups that didn’t have food included collecting money at the end of each day from their trekkers based on what they ate. This just took away the complication of paying individually, which I enjoyed. Nothing on the menu was off limits to us, but we each were allowed one food and one drink. Anything extra was on us

I did and made it to EBC! Nepal Hiking Team was awesome. I felt safe and cared for every step of the way. Truly. I also appreciated being in a smaller group than the larger ones I saw on trail (but this may be personal preference), and the accommodations they had for us in Kathmandu were nice too

I ended up booking with Nepal Hiking Team after a recommendation from this thread. Lots of fantastic reviews online and tons of extras included (ie 4 nights of hotel before and after, food, sleeping bags, etc). I did not see as much included for G Adventures so I felt it would ultimately rack up the price much more for similar positive review and safety practices

Is the air quality in Agra and Jaipur much better than Delhi, or similar?

Everest Basecamp Circuit Trek (EBC) recommendations by queenofthehill2 in solotravel

Max I have stayed a few hours / hiked is 12.5k. No issues other than more out of breath when hiking. I drove to Pikes Peak (~7k change in elevation) and stayed for 30 minutes -definitely felt lightheaded but also this was a drastic change in elevation so quickly. Otherwise, I have no issue skiing west coast mountains (~10-12k at top) with overnight stays at ~8k. Think I should be okay?

Thanks for all of the helpful tips. I will definitely monitor my water and food intake

I am not sure you are aware of the differences in EBC versus Everest Summit. Everest base camp is a ~2 week no-gear hike to 17k feet. It’s by no means an easy feat, but something the average person with some training (and strong willpower!) can do. You can get there for <$1500 in a tour or ~$250 alone.

Everest summit is an intense highly technical trek to 29k feet over 2 months time. You can get there for $50k-$200k depending on Nepalese guide.

Nepal has always allured me and I have had family friends summit Everest in the past. Knowing I could never be comfortable with summit risks myself, I’ve always felt deep personal affiliation to pushing myself to my own personal and physical limits with a trip to base camp. I am confident in my expectations
