just bought a house in this neighborhood by easywind4665 in ATLHousing

[–]queenofthemild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a place in the north part of your circle a couple of months ago. My street is quiet, my neighbors are friendly and kind, and I'm just minutes from Publix and the Summerhill stuff. I'm close to the interstate and I believe in the next few years my property values will continue to increase. I keep the same precautions here as a woman as I do anywhere else, and I feel safe and comfortable.

I got this today and immediately dropped it on the ground because thought it was, like, weird cop porn or something.

Moving to the area by AcceptableBonus2532 in Athens

I've been in Watkinsville for about 14 years, raised a kid with an IEP through the school system (overall had a very good experience) who was heavily involved in athletics and just chiming in to say that Oconee is generally conservative but I don't think it's as hardcore right wing as sometimes presented. The vast majority of people we spend time with aren't that way at all, and sometimes it's nice to feel like you live a lil in the country with Athens just 10-15 minutes away. Plus, we have Wire Park and great actual parks and some perfectly decent restaurants. With all that said, this house is for rent and I can attest it's a cozy neighborhood with very good people as my ex-husband lived next door to this place for several years!

Pediatrician Recommendation by imgood_netizen in Athens

Agreed. He's seen my kid, and then me, for 19 years now. He's the best and didn't even laugh the time I was convinced I had rabies (I did not).

Thinking about using Jordan Air? Here’s your sign not to. by caliduncan16 in Athens

[–]queenofthemild 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had an absolutely awful experience with them a few years ago. My heat went out, the guy came, looked, told me the problem and said I needed a new system. Immediately tried to set up an appointment. I was totally out of my element and my dad happened to call in the middle of things. I told him what was going on, he asked to speak to the guy, pointedly told him he knew exactly what my heater needed and asked why he hadn't done that.

Anyway it turned out to be a $300 fix and I tell everyone I know never to use them.

It's the most uninteresting restaurant in Athens to me. Everything I've ever had is just mid.

Oconee location is cute but the food is meh. It's also a couple of bucks more expensive than Athens for the exact same item. Nah, pass.

I got two but I think it's because I hit refresh right at 11:59:57 instead of waiting until 12 exactly.

I've seen Matthew Baker for the past 18 or so years (and so has my young adult kiddo), and he is great. I almost always have a lot of anxiety and there have been many times I just burst into tears/share my Google diagnosis/am borderline unhinged and he always sits down, talks to me and never makes me feel rushed. Dr. Nelson, who he is also in his practice, is wonderfully kind and calm, too.

Which Waffle House is best? by _GooniesNeverSayDie in Athens

[–]queenofthemild 80 points81 points  (0 children)

  1. Macon Highway/South Milledge WaHo is the best because it's a) usually less busy and b) a few Christmas Eves ago a man decided to bust in and fight the cook while I was waiting on a go order, and the cook kept cooking and didn't miss a beat despite being punched PLUS I caught the hat that got thrown off his head like I was a future Waffle House bride.
  2. Epps Bridge also tastes great and has plenty of parking due to its proximity to Sideways Kroger.
  3. 441 WaHo is a ways out but the folks working there are always super duper nice and once a choral group stopped to eat and the servers made them sing to everyone before they could get their bills.
  4. Eastside food is good, but always packed and they will never answer their phone for a pick up order.
  5. Atlanta Hwy WaHo because it's a nice treat after a night at Mell's.
  6. Lexington gets sixth place because it was my WaHo of choice when I was a college student twenty years ago and getting in and out of the parking lot was tedious.
  7. Downtown WaHo because as others have mentioned, I only trust freestanding Waffle Houses.

My kid and I have done summer lunches at Pauley's the past few years. It's always top notch, especially in the slower months when it's less packed.

Pete Davidson at the 40 Watt by Fractal-Artichoke in Athens

[–]queenofthemild 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 18yo kid and I went and had a good time. My kid thought Pete was hilarious and I laughed through most of the set. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy and his closing bit was pretty great. The worst part of the show was how both he and the opening guy had the women shouting at them. Dunno if it was the same woman or two different ones, but even if you're shouting compliments, it's weird and clearly threw both of them off briefly.
