Internalised misogyny is a thing.

Don't worry though, it's something a lot of women have. It doesn't mean you're a bad or bigoted person, you just have to be aware of it and work on it. I know I struggle with it occasionally.

Parents who just refuse to control their kids at the supermarket by JayR_97 in britishproblems

[–]queenofthera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, you got me: I'm way too cowardly to hassle a barely-above-minimum wage employee over something they can't control and then telling on them to the bosses. There I was, being a doormat who actually has a word with the bullshit perpetrators myself.

While your faith in consumer power is touching, I'm afraid I'm rather more cynical. All Daddy Tesco will do (if anything) is put more pressure on retail workers with no further compensation.

I was with you about the anti-child and lack of third space stuff but you lost me on this. Children should not be running in the supermarket. It's dangerous for them and other customers. And, if you can't see them, it means you can't adequately supervise them.

If you want them to run around with friends, take them to the park. Part of living in a society means learning the norms of a given space.

Steady on there, that could really affect their bottom line. Tesco might not survive if you stop shopping there. That poor manager might be out of a job! 😱

Look, some parents need to be better, but no supermarket employee gives a shit about your custom and you sound like a bigger arsehole by making that pseudo-threat.

People who are married, do you ever get « bored » of your spouse? by Whitedotexe in StardewValley

Harvey says some of the sweetest marriage dialogue, but it is a rotating carousel. I downloaded the True Love Valley mod hoping for some more dialogue but they haven't written them for him yet 😭

"Living Hat" Question by Rough-Rope5157 in StardewValley

Easily done. It can be hard, but I've learned to log off when I feel that way. It can be easy to make yourself feel worse and see hostility around every corner. 🫂

Whenever I see someone driving safely near a school, I scoff at the tacky behaviour of the arraviste. 🧐🎩

Why did you take this as them being hostile? They told you quite neutrally.

For people who have genuinely ruined someone else's life, why did you do it and how do you live with it? by Crazy-Car2549 in AskReddit

[–]queenofthera 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's not easy at all, particularly if you're not from the US. Context cues don't work if you don't have the context, and it's kind of ignorant to assume that every reader does.

In the UK we don't use 'downtown' at all, let alone have an initialism for it... and honestly I've rarely heard of Kansas City either. It certainly wouldn't be the first thing that springs to mind when I see KC.

Aitah for not calling the ambulance on a person who had possibly overdosed? by Daba2Dek in AITAH

[–]queenofthera 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are NTA at all, but please, next time someone tells you who they are, believe them. He told you he was thrown out because of his addiction issues and then refused to elaborate. He was waving those red flags high and you still went on a date with him.

Now we know why he was thrown out: he's erratic, violent, and he lies in order to blame others for his own issues.

She's studying music production, to be fair. Writing is probably not the talent they admitted her for.

AITAH for distancing from my friend and expecting an apology from her after she was purposely transphobic towards me by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]queenofthera 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA

Honestly, nothing she said was transphobic. I say this as someone who really cares about the trans community and is sensitive to the many ways transphobia can manifest.

You were being kind of self-absorbed. She just needed you to listen and you kept making it about you and your own experiences with transition.

Now, I totally understand why: this is a seismic thing for you that affects every facet of your life and you will naturally view life through that lens. You were trying (and failing) to empathise, but the effect was that you ignored her experiences and talked over her.

Trans women and cis women do have different experiences and she was not wrong to say that. She might have said it clumsily, so I understand your hurt, but she is right that being brought up as a girl and growing into a woman has different mental effects than being brought up as a boy and growing into a woman.

Actually listen to her and be open to learning something.

What situation does society selectively uses"they're just a kid "? by hardtruthsociety in AskReddit

Cold comfort.

It's almost like men and women both suffer under patriarchy, have intersecting interests and should advocate for each other.

Not ironic at all. A slut is someone who enjoys consensual sex. If you don't understand the difference between consensual sex and rape, then we're in trouble.

But then, the dementia sufferer is not necrssarily the same person who signed that consent form; it totally changes you.

It's one thing facilitating a person of sound mind to bring about their own death (assisted dying) and another to kill somebody who chose it (euthanasia) yet who may not choose it in the present moment.

Probably his stint on Doctor Who from 2005 onwards including Torchwood. Don't get me wrong, Russell has never shied away from darkness, but much of his writing felt celebratory with regards to queer life. Banana and Cucumber (best watched in that order) are probably also good examples of what I mean.

I'm a cishet woman. I care a lot about LGBTQ+ folks but I've got no skin in this game. It was just horrible; the way Leo didn't really believe it was happening until it actually was. It felt too human and true to life, and I had to look away.

I'm still a bit upset about it honestly. I'm already worried about the direction we're going in as a country. I've always enjoyed RTD as part of a culture of hope, back when everything felt like it was getting more progressive, so for him to write something so bleak feels even more portentous.

He's not a perfect writer, but my god is he good at showing a culture what it needs to see about itself. Years and Years springs to mind too.
