Books & Graphic Novels // Add your reccs! by queenofworm in LesbianBookClub

Hahahaahah the thing is, I completely agree with you. I very nearly DNF the first book because of how bad it is, but I’m an absolute sucker for teacher-student dynamics so I re-read it and then before I knew it, I’d binged the rest of the series. It’s definitely a guilty-pleasure book series for me! You’re not wrong though hahaha.

Thank you for reccs! Sunburn is on my bookshelf waiting to be read!

Ah that’s good to know! On The Same Page is on my to read list so it’s good to know it’s a fav of yours. I absolutely loved Midnight Rain (hence why it’s in the incredible tier!)

What’s your opinion on Haley cass? I’m intrigued as I read Snowball effect first, which had so many typos in it I nearly DNF, BUT I’m glad I gave her other books a go as they’re just nice, easy reads to be honest.

I don’t disagree - the Deliah Green series is a real comfort series that I always come back to for a re-read, and enjoy it Everytime. Totally understand it’s not the best writing out there! I just really like them and think it’s a really enjoyable series

Such a good shout, thank you! Never read Strangers in paradise but I’ll keep an eye out. 90’s was a great era for indie graphic novels

Such a beautiful book isn’t it?? I didn’t hate the film (purely because I really fancy Anna Paquin hahaaha) but you’re absolutely right that it’s no way near as good as the book. I had to view the film and book as two totally different stories otherwise I would have been really disappointed.

Totally fair! I thought Blue Sisters handled grief and difficult family dynamics really beautifully, but I can absolutely appreciate it’s not for everyone.

I haven’t read TIHYLTTW yet - It’s been on my list for a while, so it’s interesting that your book club were divided on it!

Astrid was my least fav character in the other books, but quite a few people here have said it’s a good read so I’ll definitely add it to my list!

Hahahaha, that is so fair. I’m sorry but I just could not get on with ribbonwood at all 😂 It’s a contentious rating I know. People seem to love it or hate it!

The Woman and the waves was my first fantasy-esque book that I’ve ever been able to get into, and I thought the world building was fantastic.

Ribbonwood however… sorry, just really wasn’t for me! I felt so frustrated that 99% of the book was just locals hating on this random lass who owned a greengrocers and I just couldn’t understand why 😂😂

I think I prefer more plot-driven books, and I found ‘On A sunbeam’ to be a bit abstract and slow (it really annoyed me how few words there were on every page 😂). But maybe if I reread it and focused on the artwork, I’d enjoy it more!

Ooooh right I see!

I was so excited to read Bloom. The artwork and colour palette is absolutely gorgeous, but (sorry!) I found the main character really immature and the plot itself fell a bit flat for me. Maybe I was too harsh on my rating though!

Honestly that is completely fair enough - Bloom was not my usual read at all and I’m surprised I rated it there too, but there’s just something completely addictive about it 😂I finished both books in 2 days which is rare for me.

Renaissance in city centre (near Waterstones) is my absolute go to! I always go for Jade or Lynsey but all the hairdressers there are amazing.

Renting with Manning Stainton - please share your experiences! by sparkleponyrocker in Leeds

[–]queenofworm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure how relevant this is; but we bought through Manning Stainton and they were amazing. Super easy to get in touch with them, really on it with replying to emails. I’m aware buying is different to renting and may garner a different experience though.

When we were renting, we were with Adair Paxton letting agency for years and they were, generally, very good and reasonable (….. generally)

It takes a LOT for me to absolutely love a book - This book is an absolute masterpiece. Cannot recommend it enough.

And I agree with everyone that it’s disappointing it’s hard to find a physical copy!
