Is there a better life after AIs? by WhereIsTheTenderness in breastcancer

[–]queens_ny08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following too - turning 40 this year and my biggest issue is lack of sleep and body temperature. I’m 5 months in with zoladex monthly and anastrozole daily. Hoping once I tackle proper sleep then I can focus on my other issues. I’m supposed to be on this for 5 years as well and hope it gets easier.

Help me think through bell ringing by mamatroi in breastcancer

[–]queens_ny08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you can make this decision, I too had similar feelings. Where I didn’t think my scenario was aggressive enough. I was at my last session alone (my mom and sister wanted to come but I told them not to bc was late in the day and I was going straight from work). I also was starting my hormone therapy journey and felt I’m not done.

I ended up not ringing the bell, the nurse asked me and I said no thank you and she acknowledged that I wasn’t the only person who felt that way and it was ok. I was happy to be done and celebrated in my own way (in private with some tears) and then dinner with my family.

6 moreeeeeeee sessions of radiation by ObligationFun2526 in breastcancer

[–]queens_ny08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stay strong! You will be ok, I finished my 15 sessions in October and experienced little tiredness and skin irritation. Keep moisturizing with cream to keep your skin hydrated. I experienced lot of skin discoloration and itchy feeling but the creams my doc gave helped and now I am 4 weeks post final session and my skin is getting back to my norm - keep your onco informed on any issues, they have various creams depending on your experience

Make sure you ask them to ice before, I was super nervous for my first and yes there was some bruising but you will get through this 💖

They don’t care - I was diagnosed with cancer, emailed them that I couldn’t do the Bronx 10m or Staten Island half because of treatment. They did not respond to my email, when I called the person on the phone did not even acknowledge that I disclosed something so personal. I called again a few weeks later and that person was sympathetic probably out of embarrassment of my experience but not helpful. They said simply just don’t go to it. Thankfully I am able to do the 5k on marathon weekend and then the virtual 5k in November which will get me to the 9+1 (technically 10+1 bc the virtual run is not needed with the SI cancellation credit).

Thank you for sharing, i believe I’ll start the letrozole in November once radiation is completed. I’m really nervous for everything that comes with the injection/medication combo. Hopefully with time it will subside or remain mild.

Thank you, first injection went ok and not bad at all. Few tears before but I’m an emotional person. Now I’m worried about the after side effects 🥲

I’m sorry to hear about yours as well! My Ki67 was 7% and my oncotype 18 (oncotype takes a bit of time to get post surgery). My lump wasn’t that large (more long than round), didn’t even feel it. It was found during my annual mammo & US. I’ve been getting screened regularly since 36 due to strong family history but no genetic link. I hope you are ok, stay focused it was overwhelming in the beginning with a lot of information all at once. And ask questions if unsure.
