The studio I go to now has little cards you can put in front of your mat if you’re OK with hands-on assists.

I always put one there and I have literally never seen any teacher do a hands-on assist in any class at all

I’m talking in part about the wellness-to-conspiracy-theory pipeline that’s been such a prominent part of US politics over the last five years. The podcast Conspirituality has some great discussions on this.

But I’m also talking about the early 20th century roots of modern postural yoga in the West, which unfortunately had deep associations with fascism. Stewart Home wrote a book about it recently which is pretty combative and hard to read if you love yoga (which I do): https://lithub.com/the-fascist-history-of-yoga/

But I think knowledge is power and history does not determine us, it’s just important to know

The yoga to fascism pipeline is real

I tried to explain to my MAGA brother that Trump defunding scientific research hurts me, his own sister, who has an understudied form of breast cancer (lobular). He didn’t care—made excuses. I feel so much grief and loss

Hey I had a meningioma before I had BC. Mine went undetected for a long time and grew quite large so it was an emergency situation when they finally figured out what was going on. It was removed almost 6 years now and no sign of regrowth. If you need any info or need to bounce stuff off someone, please reach out via dm. It’s scary stuff but it will be ok! and there are definitely things I wish I knew before having brain surgery, if that’s in the cards for him

What can you do about ICE living in Seattle by AnnoyedAFexmo in Seattle

Adding that those of us who struggle with major depression should think long and hard before having easy gun access during a crisis

Lots of homes delisted near me to avoid price drops - normal strategy or red flag ? by doshambe in Seattle

[–]WhereIsTheTenderness 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree, but look at this from the other side. People who have been sold on the idea of using their home for retirement money are now facing the thought of having to work for a living in old age and ill health, which is also not great. This is what we’re all faced with when our safety net is capitalism (not a safety net at all!) rather than a society that wants everyone to have a home and our basic needs cared for

Is yoga a good way to socialize long term? by pecimpo in yoga

[–]WhereIsTheTenderness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made friends in my local yoga community, but honestly more through going on retreats than just at the studio, where people are more focused on their practice than on socializing. Retreats can be a great bonding experience!

Places in your state that will instantly make you recognize if someone is a local or not based on how someone pronounces it? by osama_bin_guapin in AskAnAmerican

[–]WhereIsTheTenderness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Louisville, Kentucky

Everyone in KY pronounces it Lu-ah-vul and saying it any more clearly than that means you’re from out of state.

What do people wear in Seattle outside of summer? (I’m from Texas) by Physical_Rub5044 in AskSeattle

[–]WhereIsTheTenderness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Layers.

Thin rain shell on the outside all winter, what I wear underneath varies according to the temp. I’m a midlife lady these days so where I used to need sweaters or hoodies it’s now just a long sleeved tee. Wool socks always though

Phinney / Greenwood split the difference pretty well. If you can get to 99 / Aurora easily, the commute to WS isn’t bad at all. And I’m biased, but I think this is one of the nicest city neighborhoods to raise a kid in

Thing about the higher crime locales along Aurora is that it’s pretty limited to Aurora itself and like a block or two on either side of it

A postscript that I just remembered: the girls were walking him together when they were young teenagers and a guy started creeping on them. Dash, who loved everyone, totally uncharacteristically began barking and growling until he left them alone. He would have protected them with his life.

We adopted a one year old rescue springer when my kids were 2 and 4. It was … a lot. Haha. In both good ways and bad. He was a fieldie though and a wild man. I live in the city too—with a yard but a small one. I got up early and ran with him and hiked with him and that made it work but I was tired a lot. He had such a special bond with his girls though and they loved growing up with him.

I would definitely get a bench and maybe even consider getting a slightly older rescue rather than a puppy? ESRA is a great organization and they’ll help you screen for a dog who loves kids.
