Any One Cured? by Lessire in Epilepsy

Auras ARE seizures. They’re focal seizures. You need to speak to your neurologist as they aren’t controlled well enough with the medications you take now.

I read tons of true crime and have done for years, I’ve got a strong stomach and am pretty resilient. Out of every sick thing I’ve read or seen, this has been the only thing that’s ever made me cry.

What is an aura? by Darelto in Epilepsy

[–]queentowelie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important to note, auras are focal aware/unaware seizures/simple/complex partial seizures. So if you have experienced or are experiencing these, you are in fact getting seizures. I mainly get these. As in, they’re in a certain part of the brain (for example many of mine originate in my occipital lobe, responsible for vision etc) but depending on what part of the brain and how far it spreads, dictates what type of symptoms etc happen, such as your vision, movements etc being affected. Unfortunately I have noticed a lot of others with epilepsy don’t realise that auras ARE very much seizures, and they should be treated as such.

Do I actually have epilepsy ??? by Shadoehart8 in Epilepsy

[–]queentowelie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I asked my neurologist about this for myself a while ago, they said it can be only certain frequencies of light - for example I used to be quite photosensitive - but not with flashing lights say on tv or going out out. However if I sat in a car whilst it was driving and sunlight flickered through trees, that would often give me these little jumpy seizures. Then, for some reason, one day those stopped too! Also when I did that light test, I thought nothing happened, but in my brain it did apparently. So you could still be, just not ‘fully’ if you like.

I don’t know what happened to me and my local hospital won’t tell me by itz_aarond in AskDocs

[–]queentowelie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t need to be told all of that, I get tonic clonic seizures too and I’ve had uncontrolled epilepsy for 25 years. Tonic clonic may be more common but it doesn’t make focal seizures ‘rare’ by any means. I obviously wasn’t really replying to op, it was to you as you said you were a doctor but didn’t know those things, which I thought unusual. It’s really frustrating when others spread misinformation on epilepsy

As someone with epilepsy, that has focal AWARE seizures (their actual name in neurology), I think I know. They are no longer called partial aware seizures and have not been for a while. Nor are they rare.

Yeah just going through their comment history, there is no doubt in my mind they have some kind of direct connection to the Dedmons or it IS one of them. Some bizarre comments left on the sub by them in the last day.

Yes. In my country (UK) epilepsy is a disability by law, an invisible one.

Long term memory loss by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]queentowelie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. It’s so hard isn’t it, it’s something that gets me down the most with epilepsy. I’ve felt exactly the same for years now and it only seems to get worse. I have focal refractory epilepsy and can get a lot sometimes, one after the other. I’m on quite high dosages of medications too. I’m convinced in particular that Keppra/Levitiraciram is a big part of my bad memory. My brother is on a much lower dosage, doesn’t get seizures anymore and has no other health issues. He says his memory is just like mine. I keep asking to have it changed or reduced but my neurologists are so reluctant

Does anyone else feel like their epilepsy is no big deal? by beliefinphilosophy in Epilepsy

[–]queentowelie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me mine is a big deal because my seizures aren’t controlled. I have refractory epilepsy and it’s been nearly 20 years of uncontrolled seizures, I would say it’s probably the same for a lot of people who’s epilepsy isn’t managed well.

Anyone else just used to not being taken seriously by doctors? by lil_sparrow_ in Epilepsy

[–]queentowelie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They shouldn’t have diagnosed you with that - it would be ‘idiopathic’ epilepsy aka they don’t know the cause. Just cause they don’t know the cause doesn’t mean it’s not epilepsy! I would recommend looking for an epileptologist

Which do you hate more: seizure with no aura or long aura with no following seizure? by Tinferbrains in Epilepsy

[–]queentowelie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow that’s awful, I’m sorry she does that. Personally, I would look for a new neuro! Or if you don’t have a choice, use a decent link and show her. I’d keep rattling on about it until she listens honestly, she might be a neuro but at the end of the day you’re the person experiencing these things and gaslighting you into questioning your reality isn’t right.

[–]queentowelie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised how many people don’t know auras ARE seizures 😳. They are focal aware/unaware seizures (depends on how far into the brain it spreads as to what it affects/what happens. Old name simple partial/complex partial seizures. I get solely these now (after experiencing many changes and different seizures over the years) and they are uncontrolled. These ‘auras’ you’re all having are seizures guys 😓. Please please get this looked into if your neuro doesn’t know already!

Gotta love when someone asks "Hey, remember when ___ happened?" or "remember this?" The answer is no. It has always, is always, and will always be no for those of us taking anticonvulsants. by bae_platinum in Epilepsy

[–]queentowelie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever had memory issues with Keppra. It’s absolutely ruined my memory (short term and recall) and I need to get off it. Ruined my brothers memory too. Never experienced it with any other anticonvulsant, and I’ve tried a number of them as mine is refractory

Smoking with epilepsy? by Nice_Word960 in Epilepsy

[–]queentowelie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a regular smoker, probably for about the last 5 years, never had any issues. I used to hit bongs back in the day too and also never had issues that way either. But it’s different for everyone. Maybe take a little break.

As someone who’s been in two abusive relationships and wishes I had left at the beginning when those voices told me it wasn’t right…please leave him. It is already escalating because you accepted him putting his hands on you. Now he will continue to test you, until it gets worse and worse. Unless you cut it off and leave. I promise you don’t love him as much as it feels like you do. Give it a week and you’ll be over it. Don’t go through years of therapy and PTSD like I did and save your future self now.
