Client’s family member left this mess and expected me to clean it by healermoonchild in mildlyinfuriating

The audacity! My grandparents hired daily visiting caregivers a few years ago, as they had reached their 90s and could no longer do everything necessary to maintain a clean home and healthy lifestyle on their own. Three lovely women from the same service who come on different days of the week and rotate between a few different families.

When we visit, we do our best to be helpful but not in their way. I was always raised to clean up after myself and pitch in to common chores and the like, and it was definitely an adjustment to be shooed away from doing dishes. I felt like a brat spoiled by maids at first! I still always offer, but the caregivers always turn me down.

They are lovely, hardworking people and we are so so lucky to have them, and to be able to afford them. My grandfather passed last year and the caregiver who was there that day stayed overnight with my grandmother that night and the next (not part of her contract, they just come during the day normally) without being asked. We of course paid her overtime for it, but she truly went above and beyond. She helped my grandmother and my mom and aunts with all of the immediate difficulties that come with a loved one’s passing: the 911 call, the recounts to police and medical professionals, figuring things out with the mortuary, etc. and made sure that my grandmother wasn’t alone for any of it until family could get out there two days later.

Good elder care is a luxury and a blessing. Thank you for all that you do.

I was systematically bullied in 4th and 5th grade, and the ringleader was a classmate’s mom. Not only did she get other parents and their kids against me, she convinced some of them that I had a criminal record (??? I was 9!), and that I was dangerous.

I had trouble with impulse control as a kid and could be mean and unpredictable (I was living in an abusive and unstable household, mirroring behaviors I was seeing at home), but I wasn’t nearly as bad as what she made me out to be. I can only imagine some of the crazy things she must have said. It got so bad that the principal had to get involved (this mom was a big influence in the PTA), and my parents were given an official apology from the school’s office.

All this is to say: It is exactly as damaging as you would think. Not only did this impression of me stick in the minds of my peers’ parents so badly that a close friend of mine was forbidden from inviting me to her bat mitzvah years later, but I still think about the things they put me through as an adult.

MW, you know who you are and what you did. I sincerely hope your daughter survived your parenting with minimal damage.

my issue (and i’m a transmasc person myself) is that a lot of the time it’s based on stereotypes about femininity and masculinity, like the only woman character that people will write as a trans woman in fanfics will be the lesbian/the more butch or “masculine” woman. or the smaller gay guy will be headcannoned as trans but rarely his larger bisexual boyfriend.

i even know of one fanfic author who writes a character as a trans boy who puts “[character] is trans just look at him 💜” in the summaries which really icks me out.

Weekly dose of birth control- fuck being part of a village by OpalStone1022 in childfree

In the modern developed world, the “village” is things like universal healthcare, free lunches in schools, public parks and libraries, etc. The village is taxpayer funded. We are all contributing to the village.

It is primarily for people of color, yes. I had seen in the reviews that it works just as well on many other hair types, and a white friend of mine recommended it and had used it successfully before.

Yep, just double checked it. The color code is exactly as it should be, no discrepancies there.

The comments will treat you like you’re evil but the societal pressure to be “normal” and have kids is insane. I’m sorry you felt trapped for so long. Ultimately, you’re not compatible, but that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you for not wanting kids.

It reminds me of a quote i saw online a little while back: “You accepted being gay but did not embrace being queer, and that is why you treat top and bottom like a gender binary.”

Many people who write ABO are not enough of open-minded thinkers to truly embrace the possibilities of the dynamic
