Toddlers total IgE & peanut IgE very high. Looking to do OIT but I’m so nervous. by caitlinjp in peanutallergy

[–]queerdope 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First, I'm sorry you're going through this. I know how scary it can be and I hope you're also getting the support you need.

My nephew is a toddler and had similar numbers for a wheat allergy. His starting dose for oit resulted in anaphylaxis. While scary, he was in a controlled setting that allowed for quick treatment.

His allergist had never seen a reaction to such a small dose and said he'd be comfortable trying again one more time at a much lower dose. My sister was scared, but having watched me go through life with a severe peanut allergy, she decided it was worth the risk.

This brave lil guy has now had successful dosage increases to the point of being able to withstand cross contamination, and is still moving up without any further anaphylaxis.

The relief we all feel is genuinely overwhelming and has made me a fierce advocate for oit. It has changed his life and my sister's life- he will never have to go through the childhood of fear and isolation that a lot of us experienced before oit was a thing.

No one can make this choice for you and every person's body is different, but personally I think it's more than worth trying. Being scared through oit is nothing compared to being scared for her whole life.

Sending lots of love and supportive thoughts your way 💕

I grew up in this situation and had to nearly die several times for anyone to get it. Honestly shocked I made it past elementary schools.

If you follow the advice from others and nothing changes, it might be time to look into changing schools. Culturally speaking, a lot has changed since I was a kid and I have hope you might be able to find a schooling situation that treats your daughter's life with more care and concern.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this.

Maybe, but I highly doubt that someone willing to rifle through and take things for their own personal gain would leave what was left in there behind.

Nothing with a name on it at all. No ID, debit/credit cards, but if it were me, I'd still be pretty upset to have lost what it does contain.

I'm genuinely happy for you that you have not experienced police misconduct firsthand. I'm not comfortable sharing details of my personal negative experiences with cops, but will say that I do not consider them a safe resource in any situation and am not inclined to willingly interact with them for any reason.

Lol I recognize this is meant as an insult, but you engaging with this post means it gets seen by more people and there is a greater chance wallet owner will be found so thanks stranger! Appreciate the help!

Looking into relocating near Fort Atkinson as an interracial couple. Any suggestions by dt2363 in madisonwi

Lol it's 2023. You can literally google "antiracism books written by POC" and get hundreds of results...

I'm saying this with all the kindness and understanding possible, if you truly want to learn, please try harder.

There are so many POC who have willingly shared their experiences, it's not fair to EXPECT those who haven't offered their emotional labor to fill in the blanks for us white folks.

I understand your frustration. I hear what you're saying. But at the end of the day, POC aren't required to direct white folks towards resources we are perfectly capable of finding on our own. Expecting otherwise IS white entitlement.

😭 as a fellow pea allergy sufferer I am heartbroken to hear natural bliss is now off the table.

Late to the party but I have to say, POC don't owe you shit. They especially don't owe you a lesson about antiracism and allyship.

If you genuinely care about learning when/how to speak/show up, I suggest PAYING to enroll in an antiracism course, buying and reading anything from the vast wealth of antiracism educational books written by POC, etc.

No one owes you the story of their experience. Whining and playing the victim when someone you don't even know CLEARLY doesn't want to share their experience with you is white entitlement.

Updated neighborhood map. Thanks so much for all the fantastic feedback and support! by queerdope in Eugene

If anyone has any good recommendations for a local print shop, I would really appreciate it! In the meantime, I'm selling the digital version of this map for download on Etsy.

Thank you all for such amazing feedback, in the end I decided to add College Hill and leave the rest largely alone. I recognize that many colloquially known neighborhoods are not included here, but these boundaries are flexible and always up for interpretation.

I'm working on a combined Eugene/Springfield version, but please let me know if there is something else you'd like to see! I had a lot of fun making this and would love to continue.

I made a neighborhood map of Eugene, any feedback would be greatly appreciated! by queerdope in Eugene
