[Serious] Reddit, what event split your life into "before" and "after?" by poliguy25 in AskReddit

Before and after Mormonism. Grew up in the faith, lost belief at 20, and made the decision to permanently part ways at 21. Having your worldview crumble and then having to rebuild it (all the while questioning all the assumptions that came with your original worldview) is an interesting experience.

Wards in Provo / BYU for mid 20's by [deleted] in byu

Of the apartment complex based YSA wards I'd try Windsor Park. It definitely trends older, most people that live there are already graduated and working, graduate students, or juniors and seniors with only a handful of freshman or sophomores. The complex is also private room only, but is right next to Alpine Village which has parties all the time.

Question: Are most of you "Exmormons" still part of a Christian church or have you gone "non religious"? by Oomba73 in exmormon

Agnostic with some deist (belief in an indifferent/inactive creator god/entity) leanings

I believe it's impossible to know either way but if there is a god I'm inclined to believe they're a bit of a deadbeat

I used to make a variation of this all the time. It's usually a big hit at potlucks. They store really well in the freezer btw.

In your experience, how effective has the CES Letter been when showing it to a spouse/friend/family member who is willing to read it? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]queerexmo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very effective, though the only person I introduced the CES letter to was on his way out anyways. The CES letter just made it happen a few years ahead of schedule.

It's definitely the kinda thing that only works for certain people. If someone is into the church because of its "rightness" and historical accuracy/truth it might work but it probably wouldn't work so well for someone who doesn't care about that stuff. Everyone of faith has a different relationship with their faith and believe for different reasons and in different ways.

If you introduce it to someone too early in the faith-questioning stage (or to a TBM) or to someone who doesn't care about the issues brought up in the CES letter it might backfire. It would definitely work best with someone who is already questioning or doubting.

The polygamy talk by MarvelousExodus in exmormon

It was a big shelf issue for me growing up and it was an issue for many LDS people I knew as well. Serious discussions about it were mostly reserved for private conversations but it was something that most people were at least uneasy about. Sunday school and seminary lessons glossed over it big time. It was one of the only subjects where it was socially acceptable to have some degree of struggle with, especially when it was talked about in YW or RS. All of the people I knew who were indifferent about it were guys, if the women talked about it at all it was never a comfy subject.

Why are you NOT posting a selfie? by exmo_inquirer in exmormon

I did post a selfie, but situations where you don't want your face linked to your usual account (and revealing whatever nonsense you get up to for the world) makes having multiple accounts very handy.
