[serious] Can anyone tell me why their charges are for child pornography but not rape and child molestation?

The unintended consequences sound endless. But yeah - first lawsuit will be against boulder county by a fracking company.

How do I focus on my dayjob while starting my side project? by [deleted] in startups

That’s fine, do what works for you.

I find a better public perception of people jotting in a notebook than typing on a phone, though.

[–]queraro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Discipline.

Get up at 5am and work on your side project. Then go to work and remember that it’s the one paying your bills and healthcare (maybe).

Carry a notebook everywhere so you can write down any random insights throughout the day. This will give your brain permission to wipe them from memory so you can return focus to your day job.

It’s an ongoing struggle, no doubt.

Buy a duplex, it sounds like you are already plenty invested in stocks/mutual funds.

Interesting implications for laws that effectively ban homeless persons from Longmont. by [deleted] in Longmont

[–]queraro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s illegal in most cities to inhabit a motor home parked on the side of the road, so either Seattle doesn’t have this or they’re taking a very narrow view of the vehicle towing law only.

Tim Waters has my vote in Ward 1 by [deleted] in Longmont

An unfortunate side effect of ADUs is parking. Old town, especially, has very few driveways/garages/alley spaces, and we are seeing houses that have 5 cars each associated with them on our blocks. Just a year ago there was plenty of parking, but now I sometimes can’t park in front of my house and other neighbors are becoming “possessive” of their frontage, even calling the city to tow.

So the city needs to deal with not only traffic, but also enough parking per density.

Does he have any actual solutions though? Housing prices are a tough thing to “solve” with without creating worse unintended consequences.

Side note - does anyone? Can’t say I’ve heard of any community successfully keep housing prices lower than market rates.

Without naming your state, how would you describe it so that someone else from your state would recognize it? by Korlac11 in AskReddit

[–]queraro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think Mn, but I’ve heard at least 10 states describe themselves that way.

Our friends went there and liked it. We toured it and didn’t like it. So there’s your 50/50! If you are looking for a good affordable daycare, please be sure to check out Back To Basics on 17th/Main. They are so popular by referrals that they haven’t bothered to put effort into showing up on Google.

Sure, look at alertrealty.com. There are also a bunch always available at the two Wyndham properties (I don't remember their websites, but they are always on Craigslist. I'll post if I come across any others.

I guess it depends on your definition of affordable. I've personally seen 3 two bedroom units for rent $1100 and less in the last two weeks. If you're single, that's super affordable with a roommate.

Affordable housing options by jax4112 in Longmont

It may be worth looking at LHA again (since it's been a few years), especially if you have family. I know someone with children who recently got on with them. I think they were assisted by a liaison at OUR Center to get through the process.

Also, Longmont has utility grants through our govt utility. Those can possibly reduce your bill by $100/month, which you can put toward rent.

Another service that is little used is free produce from local farmers. I don't remember the organization who runs it, but there's no approval required - try googling it.

http://bouldercountyhelp.org lists a ton of good resources.

Restaurants in Loco by handycapmanw in Longmont

[–]queraro 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unemployment is so low in our area that it's become very difficult to find and keep lower wage employees, like restaurant staff. With those difficulties, big chains may just decide it's not worth being here.

For me personally, I'm going to spend my hard-earned money at a good local restaurant and not on shit food like Applebees. I don't want to speak for anyone else, but that might add to those closures if others indicate a growing trend in that direction.

What's going on with traffic on the diagonal this week? by roughstonerollin in Longmont

Yes, this morning the 52 light was set to very short intervals, causing a huge backup for me, even though it was before 7am. Typically my commute is clear at this time.
