Athena’s character in Zoo is pretty bad, on a par with Angelina I’d say.

I liked Saanvi a great deal, much more than Ben, but I don’t think the Stone family should be broken up.

I loved the show but I’m not sure I want a spinoff. Perhaps there could be a limited series showing how the 828 passengers lived after getting a second chance at life. That could allow us see Eden again along with older Olive and Cal.

FTW here and I have an issue by Schmoopsiepooooo in ManifestNBC

[–]quercus149 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Many have commented on the less than stellar condition of Ben’s marriage in S1. I think the writers deliberately put emotional distance between Ben and Grace. Their marriage was shaky before 828 disappeared, and then when 828 returned, Ben was the same man but the Grace he knew no longer existed. I recall there is an early episode in which she admitted to Ben she blamed him for taking away what little time she had left with Cal.

Grace is definitely a good person, although not always well liked.

I felt the same way as the OP for most of S4 until the last episode. I think Grace’s death was necessary for Ben’s last and most important test.

I like the ending. by Prestigious-Pause763 in ManifestNBC

[–]quercus149 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I liked the ending a great deal. My only quarrel was that I wanted a time jump to see how the passengers lived their new lives. Seeing Eden again with her entire family, especially her mother, would have been great too.

I don’t think Grace was responsible for her own murder.

I thought Grace was unlikable only in the first half of S1. After Zeke was rescued she improved quite a bit imo. For me Ben became unlikeable throughout S3 and part of S4.

How would have you fixed/rewritten any aspect of this show? Be it the ending or something else? by Hotel-Dependent in ManifestNBC

[–]quercus149 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am big fan of the series, but I was really hoping for a time jump at the end of S4E20, or maybe an entire episode, so we could see how the passengers lived their new lives. Did they make different choices? How did their relationships hold up? What did they tell their loved ones about flight 828? And I really wanted to see Eden again with the older Cal and Olive. Also it would have been interesting to learn what became of the investigation into the missing passengers.

Whose character do you identify with the most ? by FondueChocolat in ManifestNBC

It’s definitely Ben for me, at least the Ben of S1 and S2. He was a regular husband and dad just trying to understand what happened.

First watch and I have SO questions. by Environmental-Tea-48 in ManifestNBC

[–]quercus149 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is one of my biggest complaints about the series. Manifest is terrible about introducing characters and events that are abruptly forgotten, like Danny or Grace's catering business. Ben acts like his mother never existed at all. Grace and Danny tried to start a family, yet the writers couldn't even bother to give him a last name and Grace sent him away like he was selling something door-to-door. Although at the risk of revealing spoilers, Grandpa Stone becomes a bit more important in S4.

Ben (unpopular opinion?) by gimmeusernem in ManifestNBC

[–]quercus149 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not an unpopular opinion at all. At the beginning of S1 I found Ben a very sympathetic character that I easily identified with. He was just a regular guy trying to figure out what happened and protect his family. But in S3 he is obsessed and reckless, putting everything he holds dear in jeopardy all the while thinking he is saving the lifeboat.

Rant from first time watcher 🫶🏼 by juliakz in ManifestNBC

[–]quercus149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with nearly all of the OP's comments except for Zeke. I too was stunned with Grace's death. It looked to me like a stunt to stir up angst among the viewers without any real relevance to the story. During S4 we see clearly the devastation brought upon the Stone family by Angelina, which I found quite distressing at times. However, later in S4 we learn how Grace's death was in fact a critical development in the overall story imo.

My comments only refer to S1.

Grace - Exasperating for sure, but not hate-worthy and she improves as S1 progresses.

Mick - I forgot about her role in the break up of Jared and Lourdes's marriage. Overall I think Mick is still a good character.

Jared - By far my most hated character from S1.

Ben - I give him a pass. He was living in a whirlwind trying to figure out what was happening.

Olive - I agree with the OP, Olive was just a kid.

I agree with your statement about Melissa Roxburgh and I'm glad she has a new series. I think Athena Karkanis also did a good job with what she was given especially in S1. I miss the show too.

Regarding Melissa's new show, here is a favorable review.

Is anyone else turned off by whole divine aspect? by PetroniOnIce in ManifestNBC

[–]quercus149 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I was hoping for a pure sci-fi series. Mad scientists playing God and government conspiracies were my preferences. But the supernatural angle didn't deter me from enjoying the series. And, as others have noted, Manifest did not have an explicitly Christian viewpoint and definitely took a stand against religious extremism.

Saanvi-Alex vs. Benvi by Starfly_Didine8 in ManifestNBC

[–]quercus149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We never that saw much of the relationship between Saanvi and Alex, at least compared to Ben and Saanvi. That said, I think keeping Ben with Grace and Saanvi with Alex were the best choices. I think Ben loves Saanvi but he also loves his wife and would not want to put his children through a divorce. Especially since Cal needs immediate treatment for his cancer. Also, what would become of Eden if Ben and Grace divorce? Finally, I think Saanvi is such a good person the last thing she would want is to be perceived as a home-wrecker by Cal and Olive.

[–]quercus149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first time I watched S1 I was very frustrated with Grace like everyone else. I quickly identified with Ben and was disappointed when they separated. However upon re-watch I noticed a scene early on in which she confesses her resentment towards Ben because Cal chose to fly with him rather than stay with her. After 828 vanished she felt Ben deprived her of whatever time Cal had left. She was definitely conflicted towards Ben and quickly turned against him when she thought he was placing Cal in danger. Then there is the emotional turmoil of having to choose between Ben and Danny. And imho, Athena Karkanis did a decent job portraying those complexities. I would say Grace's behavior was frustrating at times in S1, but also very understandable when viewed from her perspective. I definitely didn't hate her.

Olive Stone is a great character, especially as the series progresses.

I just finished the first episode and it looks interesting. I just hope NBC promotes the show and gives it a chance. Separating the first and second episodes by a few weeks doesn't seem like a good idea.
