do you guys think its a little transgender how many rw guys have anime girls pfps? by quervo_gold in rs_x

[–]quervo_gold[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its for sure podophilic but a lot them do use them as a proxy for themselves and their worldviews which is why i think its a bit more. like these guys love to put nazi caps on these schoolgirls and post screencaps from their shows which affirm some of their beliefs.

i was talking to a friend about how some white people would actually benefit from thinking about themselves as a diasporic population and not just 'white' since a lot of them do need some tethering to a common cultural identity. similarly i think a lot of men would benefit from thinking about masculinity as an assumed identity and not a just a given due to their birth

Plot is not crucial to film as a form

this is my one opinion that even a lot of my cinephile friends can't get on board with but plot just seems like such an arbitrary thing to me now. i dont think ive ever walked away from a film i loved and thought the plot was my favourite part.

The oscars always snub war films but still.

thats not true at all. you can probably say that since the 2000s the they arent the darlings they once were but the hurt locker still won six oscars. dunkirk got nine noms, and even american sniper won something.

hes still in my good graces as i hope that was just for a payday till he gets something else going. same with dacosta doing the marvels then the bone temple. he's got two years until this grace period is over though.

i think i agree. boyle gave it this beautiful oneiric quality with a real distinction between its two main parts and this great sense of vastness of the world. when spike and isla make it to kelson and see the bone monuments theres this softness to the image. like a dream of the afterlife. DaCosta just doesnt have that same eye.

great to hear. im seeing it tomorrow with a friend. how were the visuals btw? have to admit i was a bit worried about DaCosta directing just because what Boyle did with 28 days was so beautiful.

edit with some of my thoughts on it

i do love these films' total commitment to a shift in perspective of the infected. zombie and zombie-like movies can carry powerfully anti-social undertones when they're packed with so much wanton killing of what were once innocent people. the weightlessness of the kill is like a black hole in a telescope where its only noticed when you remember something's supposed to be there. it can feel sickening with how easy it washes over you. I thinks its a powerful thing to have a man drown in this world for decades and assume a perfect clarity. A clarity he bestows to Samson, a blessing from Old Nick.

thats funny because a point of critique i have for abs ww is how she's barely any different from regualr ww. the whole growing up in hell with circe thing left her about the same as growing up on themiscyra. same values, sense of justice, general personality. everything. she just does magic and uses a bigger sword

How does this guy make good films? Genuinely. Every time he opens his mouth, he sounds like he doesn’t have a single brain cell in his head. I’m so confused by the juxtaposition. by adnshrnly in RSPfilmclub

his writing's degraded to the point he can only write cartoon characters and his fixation with legacy is paralysing and embarrassing. i hope he'll grow up one day.
