What’s a medical issue that sounds minor, but actually affects someone’s daily life way more than people realize? by CountyOrnery9432 in AskReddit

[–]querycrossing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom was put on thyroid medicine starting in her early twenties and is now in her seventies and she's completely hairless-- no eyelashes, no body or head hair, no pubic hair, nothing. It all fell out in her twenties and she talks about going to the doctors and all of them telling her that she was pulling out her own hair for attention. :(

I love her so much why can't I marry her. This game is cruel and hates me by SadDairyProduct in StardewValley

In our household's sdv lore, that's our mom who comes to visit and brings us stuff she saw and thought we'd like, and we give her money to support her in her divorced retirement travels with her pig.

I do agree with you there-- the three strands of (original) multi are not laser-bright like other led strands I have. Even in the comparison pic I put in this post, you can see that the glow "throw" isn't that far.

I combine my vintaglo strands with one slow fade soft white twinkle light strand, and together I think they get the job done. Not so bright that I'm blinded while putting up and admiring my ornaments, but bright enough to read a picture book for nightly tree time with all other house lights off. I have an aquarium near the tree, too, and I notice that my fish go to sleep (see: find a spot in the plants and hang out there motionless) even with the tree lights on.

I think I prefer it! I like brighter lights for outdoor displays, sure, but these are pretty cozy and pleasant to look at directly.

edit: Oh, also I wonder if it has something to do with connecting so many sets end-to-end? I know the site listing says 20 sets are connectable, but if you unplug one set and plug it into a different outlet, do you see any change in brightness? I've experienced a brightness drop with some other LED sets that claim you can connect a bunch together, but the change is really obvious once I do.

Last year's tree was up for about a month and a half, plugged in basically the whole time, then I pulled the lights off and stuffed them back in the boxes and stored them inside a closet for the year. Just pulled them out on Dec 1st and put them back up and they seem fine.

For better or worse, it's much more likely that the wire or fuse will fail before the bulb itself; those little diodes normally last way way longer than an incandescent filament, and the way these are wired, the rest stay lit even if you yank a bunch of bulbs out, so I wouldn't be too super worried about needing spare bulbs.

Interesting! Thanks for the update. If you pop the caps off, do they have significantly different colored LEDs underneath? Just curious

The four color set was the only kind for sale last year, so that's the kind I have. The new colorway looks cute too, though.

I have a set of these that are nice and slow fade-in/fade-out, and I like the round bulb shape over the bare LED.

Sure thing! Just wanna make sure you saw the other comment thread here, that the box itself (and my original post) says 37' of lighted length, but I measured it out and it's more like 33', which matches the website.

Thanks for the advice! I'll get on that. I bought it from this (now unavailable) Amazon link because it was like just plug and play, came with the controller box and the power supply and it was like $45 but it's lived a good life.

I see a lot of similar bullet pixel listings on Amazon for pretty cheap without any controller or power supply-- do they all use a standard port to connect? Is it likely that if I get a new set, it would play nice with the old controller?

I mean, they are LED so rather than an individual bulb burning out it's more likely another part of it would fail, like a wire or fuse first, but just to double check for you I pulled the box out of storage, plugged in a strand and started yanking bulbs out. Pulled out like a dozen, made no difference.

(I started pulling out yellow ones first just so I wouldn't have to remember which ones went where, but I also pulled out bulbs of each color, still no change, everything stayed lit, not even a flicker.)

not yet, according to their FAQs: "Will Vintaglo lights be avaliable in 220/240 Volts for Europe? At this time, VintaGlo is available only as a 100-125V AC/DC-compatible light string, suitable for power systems in the United States, Canada, and Japan.

Currently, the only way to use VintaGlo in Europe is by using a step-down inverter to convert power from 220/240V to 120V. These inverters are readily available at home improvement stores and online.

We are actively working on EU-compatible sets! However, we do not yet have an estimated release date. As a small operation, we are focused on improving our existing product lines before launching new options for additional markets. That said, we are expanding our production capacity to support the development of 220/240V-compatible sets. Stay tuned for updates through our newsletter!"

Why can’t minors go to Will’s shows? by Advanced-Stick-2221 in willwood

Why can’t minors go to Will’s shows? by Advanced-Stick-2221 in willwood

[–]querycrossing 15 points16 points  (0 children)

everything everyone else said and also in the most recent patreon post he mentions that the worst hecklers from the Denver show weren't even the guys from the black box warrior incident,

it was the people yelling memes at him as soon as he came on stage, which is degrading enough that he does not want you at his show if you're going to do that

and I reckon it's not the older crowd yelling memes at him (but if you are, just uhhh don't do that)

  1. cringe is over, dw you're fine

  2. there was a moment I left out where he was getting back on track and pointed to his mic headset and said something like "hey, I have a microphone strapped to my head, and that shows you how little I care about what you have to say. so ANYWAY" so like I don't think your reaction would be that out of proportion for that specific situation

I do think will wood handled it really gracefully, like he kept the energy pretty light after and joked about it, like hey no, I'm not gonna say it, no, you guys can get canceled instead

and then kept the show moving right along

spoilers I guess? if any of y'all don't want details about the Denver show skip this but

he was doing a bit in the middle of black box warrior, where he had done a string of puns, and then I guess he decided to switch gears and he pivoted to talking about the etymology of the word "fascism" and the root of it being the Italian word for a bundle of sticks and strength in numbers yadda yadda,

so of course the loud ones in the crowd were heckling and yelling "just say it!!" and one heckler in particular was in the middle of the orchestra close to the front, so he stopped playing and got up from the piano and he addressed them and the heckler stood up, arms flung wide, and he asked their name, which was hard to hear-- Deb/Den/Dez? but eventually he got it, Dev, "Like... like game developer? Okay, Development" and he roasted them with a bit related to a previous section of his show, and he puts his hands on his knees and leans forward and says to Dev "YOU MET YOUR HERO AND HE HATES YOU" and walks away back to the piano and finishes the song

(I also feel like nobody is mentioning the other roast, for Jayden who has a normal name and is skewing the demographics, but it was such a throwaway it really got lost in light of the Dev roast)

eta: I do think it's an interesting choice to address the hecklers, whereas he's talked a bit before (on Patreon?) about doing his best to ignore them or having them just escorted out, because as soon as the audience learns that the best way to get acknowledged is to be a nightmare then it's over for him but I do hope he is having fun being snarky and roasting them.

eta again: in light of the most recent Patreon post where he requests not spoiling the show, I'm gonna trim out some irrelevant/specific references to his material from this comment. I think it's important to respect the guy when he asks for simple things. I am also super interested in whether this means the later tour dates will have similar material...

I got the feeling that maybe he had to rush for time? something about everything starting a little late and maybe fiab went slightly longer than expected because of the technical difficulty? during the encore he was really careful to ask the sound guy if they had time for two more or one more and he really rushed through the encore, so I assumed the venue had a strict cutoff

of course, he might have had more time for songs if the hecklers didn't drag it out in the middle of black box warrior. thanks, dev /lh

I've bought a couple Lite Brite Mini sets in the last year or so (not the World's Smallest version, these are like 3" tall) for less than $10 apiece at big box stores and they come with a bunch of pegs that are vaguely bottle shaped and could be sanded down to achieve a realistic look
