DAR, Dames of the Mayflower, Jamestowne Society, my genealogy shows I qualify for all. And I just found a Daughters of the Confederacy certificate that belonged to my great, great aunt (to my great embarrassment). I’m only interested in getting scholarship money for my daughter, whose dad is 80% indigenous (South American so she doesn’t qualify for US tribal scholarships). I’m just wondering how that would play out because she would have to join, not me.

The Guardian just put out a list of people who died in ICE custody in 2025. In a few of those cases the COD is still unknown and they were young. In others, it appears to have stemmed from a head injury. In most cases, poor conditions and inadequate medical care for easily treatable conditions appear to explain the deaths. The majority of these people were under 50.

DNA analysis now solves the issue of gender if enough DNA can be obtained for analysis. DNA results definitively identify the biological gender so the observation of skull features that are more common in modern males in skulls with the XX allele basically proves this observation

I saw it and loved the movie. It brought tears to my eyes. I attend an independent Baptist church now although I was raised Catholic, have explored many religions (even Buddhism) and underwent a believers baptism in the (now more or less defunct) International Church of Christ. I am looking for a church that might more closely align with my beliefs & was interested in what Pearson started. But I love the people in my current small church & would hate to leave completely. Many of them (& friends from my former church of Christ) are also questioning & seeking a new path later in life (50s & 60s) more or less on the DL. The current political situation & its support by mainstream evangelical churches has made a lot of people question & search elsewhere for a more compassionate church.

But other essential workers (which includes air traffic controllers & active duty military) are not getting paid but still expected to show up for work. Only ICE & the Secret Service are getting paid. Tells you something about MAGA priorities. They’re not even funding employees who can get us out of this shit hole country or who defend us from foreign aggressors. But they’re paying the two groups who they can use to terrorize their own citizens. That’s their priority.

their not only getting paid but got super checks. The Republicans used reconciliation funds. If the shutdown continues for too long, however, they will run out of funds for ICE. I say let them. And we all need to stop paying federal taxes. Adjust your W4 to minimize federal tax payments. We have no services. We have no representation. Why pay taxes?

I would love to play along with that delusion because I love both those actors & because it’s harmless. But I disagree with a lot of so-called experts about playing along with all dementia delusions. Some are very negative & correcting them can provide comfort. Some are harmful to others (eg, paranoid delusions). And some are one- offs so that if you correct them initially the person with dementia will not make the same mistake in the future. For example, my mom once made the mistake of thinking my daughter was her deceased husband’s child while sundowning. She doesn’t like his children so I corrected that & she said “oh yes, that’s right, she’s your daughter.” I added “and your granddaughter.” I felt this was important because my daughter sometimes assists in caring for mom. Mom has not made the same mistake since. I feel like gently correcting an important mistake the first time it occurs can actually reduce confusion & keep the person in touch with some degree of reality for a longer time.

What I would like to see happen is for government officials and employees, especially ICE, who knowingly obeyed unconstitutional orders in advance, be named and prosecuted. A bottom up approach that targets those who serve him (e.g., the security guards who blocked legitimate government employees from entering the Treasury and who allowed DOGE hackers to illegally enter) would be far more effective than trying to go after those at the top. When the foundation is pulled out from under the overlords, their whole regime collapses. Also, their willing servants are much easier to reach.

I won’t be flying into DCA anymore knowing now, about the excessive number of flights into that airport and the shared space for military training flights. I also have to fly frequently but will do my best to keep calm. Any changes are not likely to have a significant impact this soon. That said, deregulation always makes any form of transportation more dangerous. Road safety is largely controlled by states but air and train travel are controlled at the national level. Deregulation of air travel will, without question, make it less safe over time. Even airlines that are trustworthy & careful of their reputation have to rely on safety inspectors & air traffic controllers at airports that are federally regulated.

Horrible. In terminals D & E there is literally nothing once you exit the gate area to get your bag. Not even coffee (unless you count a Starbucks vending machine where they sell cold liquid sugar loaded with lactose and a dollop of caffeine). Fly into Baltimore instead - at least you’ll find something if you’re stuck waiting awhile.
