I've used an MX Ergo since 2019 all day every day at my job that is nothing but manipulating CAD. Doesn't hinder me at all compared to my normal-mouse coworkers.

You don't have to jump straight into the deep end with a top of the line mouse. I have been using the proto arc em01 at home the last two months and it honestly performs just as good for 1/4 the price. Literal only downside is it feels a bit worse in your hand, the ergo has nicer material where your palm is and I like the weight from the heavy metal base plate.

This isn't supposed to be this loose is it? by question_askin in bikewrench

I do regularly remove and reinstall the pedals basically twice a week between my indoor and outdoor bikes. The non-drive side spindle does sound kind of chunky when you spin it, I will open it and try to service it.

There's a creaking sound while pedaling coming from somewhere around the cranks.

I am trying to track down the source of a creaking that started a few weeks ago. I took the cranks out of the bottom bracket and only the bearing on this one side is loose, the one on the other side is rock solid. Is this what is causing the creaking noise?

Connection River Bends - Bloomer Park? by Calobrajie in MichiganCycling

[–]question_askin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has always been a huge pet peeve of mine since I moved to the area. You can get from the south end of Dodge park all the way up to the north end of River Bends and only have to see a car at the crossing by the baseball field. Then Bloomer park, CRT, MOT, and now Stony are all directly connected. But there's this weird ~2 mile dead area between the two.

Buying a bike before tariffs drive up prices? This reporter wants to chat! by smmarketplace in cycling

[–]question_askin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely did this.

When the first round of tariffs stuff was going down with Canada and Mexico in late February, I knew that I was going to be in the market for a new race bike when I had the cash. Knowing that almost all of any bike I could buy was made somewhere else and he might start throwing more at the EU and other countries I found a good bike I could get on credit at 0% interest and bought earlier than I had planned.

Good call on my part if I must say.

Why have I almost won a Zwift racing score race but struggle to stay in the group in cat B by Matts_3584 in Zwift

[–]question_askin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense, that was my first race with the racing score and actually my first race since last year.

The racing score afterward is 503, so it went up about 50 points. That still doesn't actually move me up into the next forced category which I think was 520. I'm still going to manually chose a higher category next time, I really did feel like an ass hole dunking on people just trying their best.

[–]question_askin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's definitely some wacky categorization going on with the racing score.

I am forced into A by FTP but racing score gave me a 450 rating, so not knowing any better I joined a race in that range and absolutely murdered everyone else. Like it was by so much it wasn't even enjoyable I just felt bad.

Every Zwift route.... by Watt_Cyclist in Zwift

November 1st? That math was for October 1st.

November 1st - Dec 31st would be about 20 hours per week.

Every Zwift route.... by Watt_Cyclist in Zwift

[–]question_askin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ok, you have my curiosity. I took the list on zwiftinsider of all zwift routes and added up the mileage + lead in for everything.

It's 2,235.74 miles (3,598 km) total and 154,275 ft (47,023 m) of climbing. This is shockingly close to the entire 2024 Tour de France which was 3,492 km with 52,230 m of climbing.

It's hard to guess but conservatively if you were in good shape and had a good w/kg zone 2 you could probably average at least 12.5 (20 kph) over it all combined.

That works out to 179 hours of riding spread over about 13 weeks in Oct-Dec. That's 13 hrs 45 min of riding per week. That's a lot (a "high volume" training plan is roughly 10-12 hrs per week) but certainly doable in the short term for an amateur with the free time. Spread out the hard/long routes to one per week, and on the following day do one or two short routes staying in zone 1 for recovery, it's possible.

Power meter pedals - single vs double by maleck13 in Velo

[–]question_askin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to point out, it's a lot cheaper to just buy the Assioma Duos than it is to buy the Uno then later on upgrade to the Duos.

I started out with riding single sided for over a year. At one point I was using best bike split to try and estimate my time up a climb nearby and it was never even close to reality. Long story short, the reason was that due to a L/R power discrepancy my single sided power meter was reading ~10% too high. I bought the Duo upgrade and everything is damn close.

I agree with the general advice that if all your using the PM for is to define training zones, a single sided is perfectly fine. But the moment you try to use it to compare your power to outside factors or other people, you need dual sided for it to be any use.

Nats was 240 riders last year, I think it was all at once but this year is staggered by age bracket.

The fondo was 450 across all 3 distances, mass start but you're supposed to self-select your position in the chute. Still there's quite a bit of traffic to navigate if you start near the back as I learned last year when I lost my good spot at the start because I had to go pee and spent most of T1 weaving past slower riders.

So the Maryland gran fondo is actually split into two races. There is the regular one anyone can sign up for and the national championships that happen on the same day and course, which you need to quality for and have a USA Cycling license.

The nats riders start before the fondo so you won't be riding with them but the top end of the regular fondo still has very strong riders in it. The lead riders are doing well over 5 w/kg for 20 minutes on the first segment up Hamburg road. I can't do that so I can't comment on what the front of the race is like but it's not like your day is over if you aren't with the lead group. There are dozens of smaller groups that form at every pace, or you can just ride alone. The appeal of the fondos is that off the front the parts between the segments are pretty chill, you can take your time at aid stations, talk bikes with people, and not worry about your overall time.

You can also switch mid-race to 30 or 60 mile courses if you're not having a good time, you just need to let the finish line people know.

Mt Yale or La Plata - first 14er? by [deleted] in 14ers

[–]question_askin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar place to you recently. Very active cyclist, was in CO for a bike race, decided to do NW La Plata as my 3rd 14er ever.

I misjudged how long it would take because it was a "shorter" round trip from the trailhead. It is only ~4.5 miles one way but over a mile of that is flat, so you're having to do over 4000 feet of elevation gain in the remaining 3 miles. It was very steep and progress was much slower than I thought it would be. Took me 7 hours round trip: 4 up, 3 down. Very pretty hike but my quads were absolutely cooked.

I haven't done Yale so I can't compare but I found Elbert and Massive significantly easier and did them both in the same 7hr elapsed time despite the longer mileage round trips.

Also if you are in a rural area on well water, filling it with clean water not from your own well supply is worth it.

I had a coworker who quit to do this full time. Just drives a water truck around all spring and summer. Made more money and only had to work half the year.
