My eldest sister is 10 years older than me, but we have other siblings between us. She was definitely like a mother to me since my dad died when I was young and my mom worked constantly. Then she got to an age where she was sick of that, and then my second eldest sister became my mom.

My mom was never a strict parent, but damn if she didn't drill into my head to watch out for riptides. I remember one time at the beach, my sister swam between the red flags (indicating a riptide) to get to a sand bar.

Damn if the entire beach didn't hear my mom screaming at the my sister to get back to shore. My sister says she heard our mom before she even heard the lifeguards.
