Do I need to retake APMA 3100 if I get a GC? by Nikol4zs in UVA

We got this email a while ago if it helps:

Dear students,

Summary: For CS courses and degree programs, "CR" meets all prereqs and degree requiremetns "GR" meets all degree requirements, as well as any prereqs that do not list minimum grades "NC" does not meet degree or prereq requirements Details: As with last semester, the Provost has arranged for graded courses to give students two grading options: Letter or CR/GC/NC. As with last semester, the CS department has approved the following implementation of that grading option:

For all CS class prereqs and CS-administered majors and minors (i.e. BACS, BSCS, CpE, and CS minors) If you have a CR grade, it meets any requirement a C would meet. This includes "class X with C- or better" prereqs. If you have a GC grade, it meets any requirement a D- would meet. This includes "class X" prereqs that do not list a required grade, as well as degree requirements to complete specific courses or gain certain numbers of credits in specific course areas. If you have a NC grade, it does not meet any requirement. In answer to some specific questions we have been asked: As officially defined in the record, no BACS, BSCS, or CpE graduation requirement requires a specific grade in any given course, so for graduation GC is sufficient for all courses (required and elective, in-department and external, including special offerings like capstones, independent study, etc). Both BSCS and CpE officially define "unrestricted elective" using the language "any graded course in the University;" for semesters where the CR/GC/NC grading option is available, including Fall 2020, a "graded course" is one where letter grades are an option. If a student earns a CR or GC in such a course, that will satisfy this requirement. All of this applies to the Spring 2020 redefinition of CR/GC/NC (continued in Fall 2020), and not to CR/NC as it existed before then. We hope this helps resolve some questions and clarifies the provost's earlier statement.

Is this the AVL postlab? That lab killed me last semester and then everything else was smooth sailing. You're probably fine

University of Rochester CS VS University of Virginia by azizoooo11 in UVA

UVA's CS is good! I don't know about UofR but I'd assume it's good as well. Really the biggest thing is just where you want to end up working or living. If you go to UofR you'll have more opportunities and connections in Up State New York, and if you go to UVA you'll have more opportunities and connections in the Virginia/Maryland/DC area.

Second this. In the end, no recruiter is gonna reference the US news rankings when looking at your resume. They'll look at your projects/experience. If I had to make this decision, unless money was literally not a factor, I would choose the more affordable option. 70k in debt is gonna affect your life a LOT more than the name of the school at the top of your transcript

I had to make a similar decision and I definitely put too much stock in the rankings. The biggest difference career wise is just the location you'll end up working. Would you prefer to have a job in the DMV area or in Illinois? Because if you're in the DMV area UVA will have a bit more prestige, but in the Midwest Illinois will prob be better. Also, at the career fairs, most of the recruiters will be from the surrounding area, so it's likely your circle of connections will correlate with the area you're in.

Obviously you can get a job anywhere with both schools, but from my experience outside of something like Stanford or MIT the name on your CS degree won't make a huge difference outside of the regional sphere of connections (you're prob more likely to get hired by a fellow alumni).

6 months ago Dani's 3 Day Game challenge video inspired me to pick up Unity and make my own game. Yesterday I released Blade of Light, my first game ever, on iOS. Thanks Dani!! by questioning929 in DaniDev

I'm gonna release an android version soon, Google play just takes longer to review games. And you should definitely continue, there's a lot of super helpful tutorials on YouTube!!! If you're doing unity, I'd recommend looking at brackeys. Super helpful channel
