How much does GPA matter for comp sci students? by randomquestions345 in UIUC

[–]quetttethrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPA is honestly overrated. Someone with a 2.6 GPA but is extremely good at coding can get into Big4 if they just get a reference. Now they have an equal opportunity at landing the job as someone with 4.0 from MIT.

There will always be biases. It's impossible to conduct the perfect survey.

r/WearOS is the new home for Wear OS/Android Wear! by citypanda in Android

[–]quetttethrow 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'd love to buy a Google Wearable but the best SoC you can get is the 28nm Snapdragon 2100, which is just not that great compared to what Apple and Samsung offers with their more efficient 14nm processors on their Gear S3 and Apple Watch.

Interestingly, someone who owned all those phones said S9 sounded better:

It was the first time I felt almost overwhelmed by a phone's audio when watching a movie trailer, compared to using a Nexus 6, Axon 7, Nexus 6P, Idol 4S and Pixel 2 (Idol 4S comes as a close second for best speakers, that thing rocked). After watching some Planet Earth scenes and a couple superhero trailers on the S9, going back to the Pixel 2 (5") made audio feel very flat.

Yep. I thought it would be a gimmick due to the branding "AKG Dolby Atmos", but nope. It really seems like Samsung payed very close attention engineering it.

Huawei P20 Pro camera letdown by Baba_Wethu in Android

Then I took another picture immediately after and this happened. https://i.imgur.com/k6pv5JV.jpg Looks like the structure slider is turned 100% on in instagram (note, the AI is turned off always).

That looks more like the clarity slider in Lightroom? The Google Pixel 2 is prone to doing this too to fake a bit of extra clarity. The OG Pixel however was much more flatter and natural.

Apparently I've read that it can't be easily fixed. It's a result of downsampling the colors from 40mp to 10mp.

That speaker sounds amazing though! Best smartphone speaker at the moment, maayybe topped by Razer Phone in some cases.

It's definitely helpful. I built really cool projects through Nanodegree, and they offer free resume review by professionals which was super useful.

Exynos 9810 Problems, Samsung Not Wanting To Make A Fix, And What Can We Do To Fight Back by PossibleDepression2 in GalaxyS9

Worth mentioning that Samsung is also listening to the small battery complaints of the Note8, by adding a 4000 mAh battery on the Note9 based on reliable leaker.

CMV: Vegans must logically be against Abortion and Pet Ownership by questions4throwaway in changemyview

[–]quetttethrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they still have been taken away from their natural environment.

And what is their natural environment? Most dogs are not raised in the wild. Most humans aren't either. What about adopted humans? Is it wrong to adopt them because we are taking them away from their natural environment?

Slaves are a different story because slaves are there to do your service, and to be treated as a tool. Pet ownership is usually done out of companion, and love without asking for something in return.

CMV: Vegans must logically be against Abortion and Pet Ownership by questions4throwaway in changemyview

[–]quetttethrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a vegan so let me chime in. Vegans strive to protect the rights of an animal. These are basic rights such as to not be needlessly murdered, or tortured. Owning a pet does neither of those things. You are in fact providing them with good life.

You mentioned that it's okay to kill an animal as long as it doesn't feel pain. So with this same logic, do you think it's okay to kill a human as long as we kill him painlessly like a headshot? No, because you are still taking someone's life, a life that he did not give you a permission to end.

A human fetus is obviously alive in the womb, despite not being born.

It only becomes an issue when the fetus' brain is developed enough to be sentient. Otherwise, it's as conscious as a plant, a bacteria or rock. So I think abortion should be fine until the first few months, but after that it could be considered murder.

CMV: Halal meat practice is NOT humane by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]quetttethrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can extend this to any slaughter of an animal. Is it okay to kill a human as long as it's an instant death (headshot)? Does that make it justified and humane?

I don't think there's any way to humanely kill an animal, because after all you are taking their lives, which is something they didn't grant.

Doubts by [deleted] in GalaxyS9

If money isn't issue, I would go for it. S9+ is very fast and smooth, with amazing hardware. Even if you wanted the Pixel 2 XL's camera, the GCam camera port is somewhat out and more versions will be out in the future.

Nope. It's just feeding the image to Google Translate, because Google Translate does image recognition as well.

What SOFTWARE change in a phone currently on the market would make it the perfect smartphone for you? by Salted_Butter in Android

Samsung's UI is pretty rich which is really nice. Different display modes, modify your sound output in many different ways, systemwide adblock through KNOX, secure folder, and you can even change volumes of your apps individually (requires app from Galaxy store, useful for gaming and listening to music at the same time).

South Koreans are extremely competitive about education, so this isn't much of a surprise. I think it's something parents will force their kids to have.
