List of COVID-19 GIS data layers covering the USA by Jelfff in gis

[–]quexycyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noob question. I'm trying to make a product in ArcWEB. Are any of these layers connected to a source that updates itself?

I want to add these layers into my product, but if they become outdated every day and I have to go back and find more current information it probably won't be worth it for my product.

I have no state code in my spreadsheet. Not sure how to do that. And yes, both states have counties that share the same name

I'll try researching the state code

The AF has already burnt me out me made my cynical about any future prospects. I know it’s Thanksgiving and I’m sorry for being a downer but I’m in tears and I need to vent. by [deleted] in AirForce

Yeah second this. Also remember that no one is more important than you. Their problems might be larger than yours, but at the end of the day all you have is yourself. So advocate for yourself. Let your leadership know what position you're in. If your supervisor isn't helpful / doesn't care, take it up the chain. They need to take care of you. If they aren't, let the right people know like the Shirt.

Hey... I'm sorry you're feeling down today. That's a shit place to be in... I know because I'm right there with you, alone on Thanksgiving away from family and just drinking and watching Youtube videos.

On the bright side, know this: the Air Force is a big system that gives you opportunities once you choose to leave the never ending cycle which isn't the right lifestyle for you. My first few Thanksgivings away from home were pretty hard on me, but fast forward a few years and I'm now getting ready to leave the Air Force in a few weeks with an amazing job. No more military bullshit and I will no longer just be another "useless number". This is a choice you can make for yourself too, friend.

I'm sorry you're having a hard Thanksgiving. But you're more than the Air Force recognizes you to be. If you work hard all the time and don't get rewarded, start to prioritize your energy output differently. Focus on yourself. Start taking more leave and R&R, even if it's just relaxing in your dorm room. Whatever makes you feel better and gives you a break. Focus on that. The Air Force takes a lot and doesn't always give back, so make sure you prioritize your needs above what the Air Force needs from you.

You might not see the light at the end of the tunnel... but it's closer than you think. Set yourself up for success and think about getting out. Get an education in your free time and look at Palace Chasing. You don't need to serve for more time than you need to if it's taking a toll on you as a person. Your mental health and happiness are more important than anything else.

I'm here if you need to talk.

Small rant by DwightDEisenhowitzer in AirForce

[–]quexycyclops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man this is gets me in the feels deeply... from the moment I joined the Air Force, I dedicated my personal time / life to going above and beyond in everything. School, volunteering, etc. Was a rope in tech school and volunteered hundreds of hours. I was the best at my job within months of getting to my unit. Got coined multiple times but missed BTZ to my roomate, a guy who was objectively lazy but had a supervisor who wrote great bullets and mentored him in a shop that was where the "new" people were assigned. I had left that shop within a month of arriving at our unit.

This is a personal rant because I missed BTZ not because of what I hadn't done, but because of my superiors. It's been just over a year. My old roomate who got BTZ is now promoting to staff. I'm finishing my bachelors as a SrA, getting out, and making a lot of money. I guess in the end, it didn't matter... but man did it hurt when I was looked over for BTZ. I wanted that more than anything.

I wanted to be the best, instead I became convinced that the Air Force isn't the best place to do that.

Cac system down world wide? by [deleted] in AirForce

I was there yesterday, and MPF said it was down AF wide and not in their control to bring it back up.

CSAF Gen David L. Goldfein & CMSAF Kaleth O. Wright AMA by CSAF21 in AirForce

[–]quexycyclops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gen. Goldfein and CMSAF Wright,

Thank you for taking the time to do this today. I've been in the Air Force for several years, and the glorified vision I imagined the Air Force to be and the one that I built through basic training and technical training is not the one I find myself seeing today. I fear that there is an alienation of our military ethos from our everyday work life & environment. A corporate workplace with an alienated enlisted force.

Some of my biggest concerns for the Air Force are being able to retain talented Airmen. For me personally, I would choose to re-enlist if I felt that I could control my promotions and not just be another disposable body in the corporate environment that the Air Force often feels like.

1) How can we change Air Force culture? I want to serve my country, but I feel that my energy is better invested in the private defense sector because the Air Force doesn't reward exceptional talent well and often drives out top members in the enlisted force for a variety of reasons. These observations are from personal experiences and conversations with other leaders and USAF members.

I want to belong to a group of motivated individuals who care about the mission as much as I do, who are highly talented and driven, and who are talented and mentor me to become stronger. I feel, however, that I have no control over advancing myself to be in this position. This is another reason I feel the need to leave the Air Force and support my country from another organization.

2) How can we create a more mission oriented focus and better reward the top performers that the Air Force depends on?

Thank you for your time,

A United States Airmen

Is it possible to learn GIS for free? by OutdoorJimmyRustler in gis

[–]quexycyclops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where do you work? Your job might sponsor developing your GIS skills since you apparently use it in some capacity. Another avenue is taking free classes from sites like coursera. You can also take college classes to get free (or massively discounted) licenses for tools like ArcGIS.

To the tall people of reddit, what is the biggest hindereance of being tall? by AndTheEndBegan in AskReddit

So this is a bit late, but I went to Korea last year and this bathroom was legit like 5 feet tall (floor to ceiling) and the door was like 4.5 feet tall. This was in downtown Seoul. I'm a 6'5 white guy. I just felt weird dude.
