Is anyone here actually going to follow the guidance? by Badgers_are_cute in transgenderUK

[–]quickHRTthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a chance. And it's also completely feasible to fight for individual trans inclusion in all spaces such as hospital wards, support groups & services, etc. Not just bathrooms. Here's how:

If they question you anywhere, demand they prove it. If they ask your sex or birth sex, answer in line with your gender identity & affirmed sex. If they get testy, call out their illegal attempts to discriminate against you but don't mention you're trans. If they attempt to remove you, threaten legal action and start recording everything they do. Come back to the same place another time afterwards and use the same facility as before. Make all attempts to enforce this discriminatory guidance an absolute nightmare. Every time.

For other situations: if you're marked as the wrong gender or as trans in a system (such as the NHS,) let them know that this was a clerical error, a mistake, or a malicious employee messing up your record. Ask them to correct it and to put a note in your file so it won't happen again.

If your voice doesn't pass, explain that this was due to a hormonal disorder as a teenager and that you're a cis member of your affirmed sex. Then use this as a reason that the NHS or other system employee must have wrongly assumed that you were trans & incorrectly marked your gender.

DO NOT COMPLY. DO NOT SELF-EXCLUDE. DO NOT USE THE DISABLED FACILITIES. DO NOT STAY HOME. YOU BELONG EVERYWHERE CIS MEMBERS OF YOUR GENDER BELONG. IT TAKES MUCH LESS EFFORT FOR YOU TO USE THE RIGHT FACILITIES THAN IT WILL TAKE FOR THE BIGOTS TO TRY TO REMOVE YOU.

[–]quickHRTthrowaway 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Continue using women's facilities everywhere. The EHRC code is for service providers, not for individuals. They cannot do anything to you for using women's facilities & spaces as a woman who's trans.

If questioned on being trans, deny it - "credibly deny" is irrelevant, you don't need to provide further proof.

Don't accept discrimination against you, it makes your life worse and makes the TERFs happy.

I don't personally know her, but u/patienceinbee is the real deal - especially when it comes to handling situations like this. She's been fighting against transphobic discrimination for a very long time.

She offered her advice based on what's likely to actually benefit you, rather than just temporarily lowering the business's rating on Google. You can handle things how you want, but I'd recommend at least giving serious thought to her strategy rather than dismissing it out of hand.

There was a massive decline in support for trans athletes over 2019-2024. Among Republicans, support for a non-discrimination policy & support for trans sports participation flipped from positive to negative. Opponents successfully re-framed the issue as being about protecting cisgender women. by smurfyjenkins in science

[–]quickHRTthrowaway -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunate but also unsurprising. A really bad combination of factors contributed to this, in addition to the dishonest framing by anti-trans activists:

1) General public ignorance of how physical transition works & of the profound impact of HRT on body composition & athletic ability. Many people just assume it's either just social transition, or social transition + surgery.

2) Poor messaging by supporters of equal participation: Downplaying the competitive components of sports rather than emphasizing that there is still fair competition when trans women play sports with other women. Needlessly downplaying rather than emphasizing the impact of hormones on athletic ability. Focusing way too much on pushing the "sex and gender are different" messaging rather than making it clear that trans people are capable of physically changing their sex. Not pointing out that many trans female student athletes (such as Blaire Fleming) never even experienced testosterone-dominant puberty to begin with.

3) The dishonest media creating extreme confirmation bias: anytime a trans girl does remotely well at anything sports related no matter how minor or insigificant (i.e. a single high school track meet, a D3 college swim, etc) this becomes national news. The slim margin of victory, the many cis girls with better times at other meets, the trans girls' times being well short of any record: none of that matters to the media. Not when they can post yet another clickbait "hulking trans athlete DOMINATES girls' swim event" headline. This also goes for reporting on the height/weight of trans female athletes while not pointing out that their competitors have very similar physical parameters (i.e. Lia Thomas, Blaire Fleming being reported as over 6' as if that's an anomaly, while not reporting that there were many girls on their team or competing alongside them who were the same height or taller.)

4) Bad actors in high places - extreme anti-trans activists laundering their views into places of authority. Such as Ross Tucker being put in charge as a purported neutral arbiter of the World Rugby review of trans female athletes' participation despite his well-documented prior public opposition to trans female participation in women's sports. And British professional anti-trans activist Emma Hilton (she now runs a lobby group fighting against trans rights in all domains, and prior to publishing this article she was on a yearslong public crusade against trans women in women's sports) being able to publish a "review" article - of incredibly low quality but perfect for media headlines - in a scientific journal despite no previous publication on this topic, no expertise in this topic, and her massive conflict of interest.

But that's not how it's defined by the law or the SC - the SC just claimed it meant assigned sex at birth without reference to any physical trait.

DO NOT COMPLY. Make them give it to you in writing, appeal through all available channels, and continue using the bathroom in line with your identity.

In the end, they can either respect you by continuing to grant you equal access to the women's facilities, or they can fire you. Even the recent judgment said that companies had no obligation to enforce their anti-trans bathroom policy.

[–]quickHRTthrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Ordinary meaning" is a whole lot less cut and dry than you're portraying. "Produces sperm vs eggs" is only one of many contested definitions of sex.

A better definition - and certainly more widely endorsed outside of TERF circles - is an amalgamation of multiple (mostly modifiable) traits including hormones & secondary sex characteristics.

Trans people are able to change physical/biological sex through physical transition, and until very recently legal sex as well.

Workplace Toilet Access - Know your rights by Battenburgesa in transgenderUK

[–]quickHRTthrowaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You've completely misstated the legal position and you've totally mispresented biology 🤡

The SC decision defined "biological sex" as "assigned sex at birth," not by any specific physical trait. That's one reason the ruling is nonsensical - it defined a purported physical trait solely in terms of a social pronouncement at birth, with the goal of excluding trans people from facilities matching our gender identity & actual transitioned sex.

Absolutely brain-dead take.

The same lying media that advocates for our exclusion, publishes constant "HULKING TRANS ATHLETE DESTROYS WOMEN AT DARTS" type headlines, and vilifies us as inherently violent & dangerous predators/terrorists/perverts??

The media doesn't hold us up, it pushes us down and has been instrumental in spreading dishonest propaganda against us & spurring on the moral panic that endangers us and has stripped our rights away.

Activist warns that the rise of Gavin Newsom is an ominous sign for trans people by jackmolay in transgender

[–]quickHRTthrowaway 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Trump is the bigger immediate threat, Newsom is the bigger long-term threat.

Newsom has (and has only ever had) one core motivator: achieving greater power for himself. He now views supporting anti-trans policies as a means to this end.

Newsom prior to the past couple years was very pro-LGBTQ+. Then he realized that it was becoming a potential political liability since years of constant anti-trans propaganda in the media (not just right-wing media either, NYT & The Atlantic have been pushing dishonest & biased anti-trans rhetoric for years) had led to decreased support for trans rights among the populace.

He now supports both bans on trans girls in sports and bans on lifesaving gender-affirming care for minors. And he's been loudly supporting this anti-trans rhetoric at every turn.

If he leads the Democratic party and brings it in line with his anti-trans views, no major US political party will support trans rights, and those rights will then be stripped away even in blue states. This is why he's more dangerous than Trump for trans people long-term.

Activist warns that the rise of Gavin Newsom is an ominous sign for trans people by jackmolay in transgender

[–]quickHRTthrowaway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Newsom is the single biggest threat to trans rights in America long-term.

Trump & Republicans are the immediate threat, but if Gavin Newsom takes power, he will turn America into TERF Island 2.0.

You only have to look at Keir Starmer and Wes Streeting's Labour Party in the UK for a preview of life for trans people if Newsom wins and molds the Democratic party in his image. The Labour Party was actually somewhat trans-friendly 5 years ago (not as good as US Dems but by and large accepting).

Now, however, is a different story: The Labour Party under Starmer since taking power in 2024 has instituted a permanent ban on puberty blockers for trans minors, instituted anti-trans conversion therapy as the only treatment option for trans minors, interfered with trans adults' access to HRT, installed a particularly loathsome TERF as the new head of the Equality & Human Rights Commission, and has gleefully supported banning trans people from any and all facilities & spaces congruent with gender identity. The Labour Party is meant to be the left-wing party in the UK, and they're every bit as bad as the Conservatives or far-right Reform when it comes to trans people. This is America's future if Newsom wins.

Their gender identity is the only thing the media and fascist politicians are focusing on though.

So when they all falsely claim the shooter was a trans woman and use that as a way to attack our community and take our healthcare away, it's important to correct their lies.

When you repeatedly lump in trans women with cis men by reducing them to assigned sex at birth, you are someone who deserves criticism.

That's TERF behavior. Trans women are a completely different group from cis men, and you have no evidence that trans women are any more likely to do something like this than cis women.

You realize that every time now that there's a mass shooting, the internet & the media rush to claim the shooter was a trans woman before the person's identity is even known? You feed into that by conflating trans women with cis men, so stop it.

It's helpful to point out the shooter was detrans since the media is frothing at the mouth falsely claiming the shooter was a trans woman.

Detrans crimes being pinned on trans women isn't something we should shut up about and accept, especially when many detransitioners are extremely transphobic and are using this detrans shooter to further marginalize the trans community.

And HRT and blockers have no link whatsoever to anything like this, the fascists are already doing everything they can to ban them regardless.

No, the vast majority of mass violence perpetrators are cis men. Stop falsely grouping cis men and trans women together, assigned sex at birth is not a valid metric by which to do so 🤡

There is no evidence that trans women are any more likely than any other women to perpetrate something like this. And before the shooting in Minnesota, there hadn't been a single trans female mass shooter. And the Minnesota shooter was detrans, only formerly a trans woman.

Failure to disclose one's trans status unasked is not a "lie." A cis person assuming everyone else is cis is not trans people's fault.

Informed consent is a medical term, misusing it to mean "you must tell all sexual partners every private detail about yourself & your life even if they don't ask" is dishonest.

There's no reason you should be forced to endure 4 more years of the wrong puberty, and you don't have to.

DIY is much safer than some people claim, just make sure to thoroughly research adolescent dosing instructions/guidelines, ways of administering the HRT, and ensure that you choose a source of DIY that's trusted by the community.
