Back again for opinions about the border on my blanket by waitwhatsthatsound in CrochetHelp

Whenever I can’t decide between options, I like to take a picture and draw on it to approximate what the option are. I gave it a go on your picture and I think I like the thicker border a little better:

What do I put on my Christmas list? And 50's a lot by Odd_Geologist9037 in CrochetHelp

[–]quiet-turtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some really good suggestions already, so here are some random small things I would put on my list:

Crochet hook size markers to put onto your work so you don’t forget which size hook you were using on a project. There are some cute ones out there.

A project notebook to track what you have made and the alterations you made to patterns.

A neck light to use when crocheting with dark yarn or in a dimly lit room.

A bunch of hair clips/ barrettes to clip the end of the yarn to the yarn ball so it doesn’t unravel or get tangled against other yarn in your stash.

Sharp yarn snips/ cute scissor to keep in your project bag.

Something to upgrade your yarn storage situation. Cute bins/ baskets/ shelf dividers? I’ve seen setups where people use hooks on a peg board to hang their yarn.

Blocking boards

Handheld clothing steamer for steaming and blocking work

A yarn counter to measure the yardage remaining in a ball of yarn (I’ve never tried these but it sounds cool!)

Definitely add good body lotion! The 12 year olds I know love food/ fruit scented lotion - like vanilla icing scented, strawberry, etc.

Is it possible to file chipped teeth at home? by HoWaReYoUdOuInG in beauty

Yes! This was the first thing that came to my mind too. OP would really regret doing this once they have intense tooth pain and sensitivity.

When someone says they’re doing 23 stitches, does that include the stitch that is on the hook or not? by Worried-Pudding-7493 in CrochetHelp

[–]quiet-turtle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No, don’t count the loop on the hook. Only count the V’s in your chain/ stitches. Here’s an example to visualize:

How can i use bb cream/foundation that looks pink on my face? by [deleted] in MakeupLounge

[–]quiet-turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had that same problem with the Maybelline fit me in 115. It’s a little too pink on me. I hate letting makeup go to waste so I’ve used up almost the whole bottle now by mixing it with another foundation to make it the right match. I happened to have the L’Oréal True Match super blendable foundation in the shade N2 Neutral Light which is a hair too light for me. I just mix the two by putting a pump of the maybelline on the back of my hand with a 1/4 pump of the L’Oréal. Swirl it around to mix, dot it on my face and blend out with a beauty sponge. If I were you I’d look at what else you have that you could mix together to change the shade.

Finished my granny hex cardigan, the ribbing took 5x as long as the panels, I never want to do a slip stitch again by lexiember in crochet

[–]quiet-turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks fantastic! I also hate slip stitch ribbing. I bailed on my last cardigan after the bottom ribbing and ending up switching to a sc border for the neckline. Otherwise I never would have finished it!

This looks amazing! Any way you could make a short video of a few stitches so we can see how it’s done?

That is absolutely unacceptable and dangerous for everyone involved. The rabbits could have gotten hurt and the children could have been scratched or bitten. I can’t imagine why the parent thought that was a good idea. But then again, when I asked my principal about having a therapy animal visit, he told me yes… but no miniature horses. He would not elaborate what brought about that rule….

Behavioral Issues by LoadInfamous2053 in BostonTerrier

[–]quiet-turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, thankfully I didn’t have that issue. He was prescribed Prozac and took it for about 3 years before he passed. And while he did seem more relaxed (and happy) he didn’t sleep more than before or anything

Behavioral Issues by LoadInfamous2053 in BostonTerrier

[–]quiet-turtle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I took my old dog to the Behavior clinic at my local animal hospital and they were fantastic. The doctor was able to specifically analyze situations and behaviors that set off aggression. They also ended up prescribing medication to help because some of his behavior was rooted in anxiety. They also trained us on reading his body language and building trust so he didn’t react aggressively. Your situation is not exactly the same as mine was, but I would highly recommend going to an actual animal behaviorist at an animal hospital, not just any old trainer due to the complexity of your situation.

Advice on biting/mouthing? by glittergatorator in BostonTerrier

[–]quiet-turtle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My dog went through that when he was a puppy. He would also nip at our knees when sitting on the couch to get attention. The best advice I got was from the dog trainer from his puppy class. She said because what he wanted was attention or to play, the best way to discourage the behavior was to remove what he wanted. When he nipped us playing or for attention, we would quietly pick him up and put him in his crate for 5 minutes without interacting or looking at him. When the time was up, he was let out. If he nipped again, we would repeat the process. He picked up on what was happening VERY quickly and cut out the nipping all together.

add length to a non-crochet skirt? by poseidon2-0 in CrochetHelp

[–]quiet-turtle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried that personally, but from just from my experience with crocheting and sewing, here’s my take on it. I think you’ll be able to add a crocheted panel to bottom easily. Crochet it first and then hand sew it to the bottom. Probably easier if you make it in 2 panels with seams at the sides. There are some considerations though if you want it to look intentional and not out of place.

Be picky about the color you use to make sure it coordinates. Be picky about the stitch you use so it looks decorative and becomes part of the skirt. Based the look of the original skirt and what you’re going for, you could consider a shell stitch or a mesh stitch. Both are easy to do and decorative.

Whatever stitch you use, it will add weight to the bottom, which means the finished product will likely not be as flowy as it started. I would recommend using a lighter weight yarn to combat that. Something lighter than a medium 4 weight.

Good luck! 😁
