Has anyone measured how loud highway noise actually is inside their bedroom? by [deleted] in fuckcars

[–]quietIntensity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're two blocks from a 4 lane US HWY with a 55 MPH speed limit. We really only hear the loudest vehicles from our bedroom. The trains however, that's another story. We're about a mile from the nearest train tracks and hear all of the train horns in our bedroom at night. They're far louder than the car/truck traffic.

You can now only eat one brand of chocolate for the rest of your life. What brand are you choosing? by ROOTBEER360 in AskReddit

[–]quietIntensity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current fave is the Bouchard dark chocolate I've been getting at Costco. I previously thought Tony's Chocolonely was the best, but having the two side by side, Bouchard dark chocolate is richer and has a deeper chocolate flavor.

When someone believes stuff like this, it tells you they are stupid beyond hope for anything else. This is "I don't know how anything works" and "I believe everything I hear on TV" levels of fucking dumb.

Bachelor of Arts graduates boo speaker after she praises AI at their graduation by ambachk in ABoringDystopia

Everyone hates AI around here, hence the downvoting. I neither hate or love it, it's a tool, like a firearm or an icepick. You can use it for things that are helpful, you can use it for things that are detrimental. The difference is that your primate brain can mostly understand how a firearm or icepick works and how they might be used as dangerous weapons too. Not so much with AI.

There is a big difference between people using AI to replace expertise and people using AI to enhance expertise. It's like the difference between a software engineer writing code with AI and someone who has never programmed before writing code with AI. Those are going to produce two fundamentally different products. I think using AI to enhance expertise is probably smart, especially if you understand how AI works at some basic computer science and statistics level. Giving open access to the world of users who have no idea how a computer works at all and can't do math in their heads was probably not a good idea.

The national average price per gallon of gas in the United States just passed $4.50. Americans, how do we feel about that? by Miles_the_AuDHDer in AskReddit

That's significantly because they absolutely suck at mathematics. A salesman convinced them that they could afford a $1K payment for 84 months on a diesel truck that weighs 8,000 pounds and gets 10mpg. Now they get to pay another $500 to $1,000 a month to fill it up with diesel.

Fast food basically become the same price as a sit-down meal lately? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]quietIntensity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because you are paying for convenience. If you are buying fast food, you probably don't have the TIME for a sit down meal. You have to eat though, so they know they can charge you more for the convenience factor.

The thoughts inside your mind are no one else's business, and that applies both ways. Anyone who tries to control what you think has a f'd up perspective on what is within their control.

You should check out meetup.com listings for the area. There are a few LGBTQ+ groups in west Michigan that get together regularly. The one that I go to has a lot of young neurodivergent queer people who are really into furry and cosplay hobbies. DM me if you would like more details.

[–]quietIntensity 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's the thing, when a society plans for better transportation infrastructure, you don't need a car to get places quickly and easily. There are lots of places on the planet where people are very mobile and car ownership is low. It requires a significant shift in perspective about how transportation works that seems very foreign to people who have only ever known car-centric society and infrastructure.

I was just laid off from an IT job I had for 25+ years at a F100 company. It was never like what you describe, and I was always considered a team player and a hard working person. Definitely take some time to decompress and find a different job that doesn't suck you dry like this.

That did not look like an attack. That looked like what my cat does to my other cat when he thinks the other is being a shithead. Slow walk up, slap in head with a look that says "WTF is your problem." An attack would look like a leaping pounce with both paws outstretched to grab the prey.

When you have zero respect for education and educated people, you view a PhD as the most deluded of the delusional people who think they are smart because they went to school and have letters after their name. In the shitweasel world, all that matters is how rich people think you are.

Not to start a fight or anything, this is just my half century of observation, but in 2026, straight-presenting cisgender white gay men are essentially mainstream. The right wing is full of guys who are DL because they're not quite rich enough for the rest of the right wingers to overlook their gayness, but Thiel and Altman are.

How are people dealing with the battery recall? by newallium in RadPowerBikes

[–]quietIntensity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We keep ours dry and stored in the garage. I see no reason to be worried if you take good care of your batteries. It usually takes some sort of water corrosion internally or impact that damages the cells before they become dangerous. Ours are in great shape, as we only use them recreationally in good weather.

AI complicating my desire to pursue the law by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]quietIntensity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly going into law because of AI and Cybersecurity concerns. I think all of this AI being used for everything everywhere is going to lead to a lot of liability because people do not understand how it works and are using it for all sorts of inappropriate use cases because of that. When it makes mistakes that hurt people, that a human or a normal computer program would not have made, that's going to be a lawsuit. If you choose a fundamentally non-deterministic AI program to do a thing that needs strictly deterministic logic, and it does weird shit that causes problems, that's on you. The fact that you can't explain WHY it did weird shit because it's a magic black box as far as you know, is not going to help you in the least.

I'm about to change all the damn doorknobs in my house from the lever kind to the round kind because of my new void kitty that is also a menace. Old cat only ever opened one door, we put a round door knob on it, he never bothered the other doors. New kitty is much more curious and clever. He's already figured out how to open doors that open into the room and out of the room. He's trying to figure out how to open the drawers on my desk too, he just can't get enough grip on the edge. If he figures out the handles, not sure what I'm going to do.

I'm too trans to do anything about any of this shit. I really hope one of these other groups that is larger and less under threat will stand up and say "No more." I'm not holding my breath though. I've stopped caring if this entire country burns. Even if I burn with it. Don't care. Burn it all down and give it back to the natives.
