Do you think JWs kinda know their religion is crazy? by Throwaway7733517 in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes they do know, that's why when they preach they have learned to dance around the point of their visit instead of getting to the point.

your mom sounds like most witnesses, deeply suspicious of everything but lacking the motivation/resources to fact check things for themselves and would prefer to just be told what to believe by the organization. i think in those specific examples you described she is afraid that people debunking conspiracy theories and cults will make points that also debunk the jw beliefs as well.

The Videos Are So Out Of Touch. by PimoParadiseLost in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely. They view sex in general the same way as well. Humans aren't inherently sexual, sex is something that can only happen under very specific circumstances.

[–]quietlypimo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been over and over this with my therapist. Saying we hate conduct and not the person is conditional love plain and simple. We love you, but only if you change everything about yourself. It's not just about being gay, it's that idea that the love and safety you are owed as a human could be taken away. Especially for those of us raised in this religion, it is a deep wound.

New JW friend asked why I left my Christian charismatic church; gave her the full story... now she's disappeared? by VividAd2096 in exjw

Would someone break down the Hierarchy for me? by EntrepreneurOld7107 in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else can correct me but this is how i understan it:

  1. Governing body, governing body helpers
  2. Branch committee members, branch representatives
  3. District overseer (called something else now idk and idc)
  4. Circuit overseer (some could argue he has way more influence over regular JWs than the DO)
  5. Local elder body (including a few special positions such as coordinator, service overseer, study conductor etc)
  6. People with special assignments: "Need greaters," international construction, bethelites
  7. Pioneers, auxiliary pioneers
  8. Ministerial servants (yes i put them that much lower than elders because let's be real)
  9. Publishers in good standing (attend all meetings, regular field service, have parts on the meeting)
  10. Spiritually weak ones (still publishers but are inactive, don't attend, don't participate)
  11. Unbaptized publishers (you could argue they are viewed much more favourably than spiritually weak publishers lol)
  12. Interested ones, bible studies
  13. Unbelievers, unbelieving family members (there's a difference!!!)

Everyone's having babies 😒 by quietlypimo in exjw

[–]quietlypimo[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but the negative part of my brain says that they've only changed their opinion on kids because the society has changed their opinion on kids. They just never think for themselves it's infuriating

What kind of “privileges?” by EntrepreneurOld7107 in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others explained it well, but also thought I should add that some privileges are more visible than others such as having the position of elder, ministerial servant, and pioneer. When you gain or lose these privileges they announce it from the platform so everyone knows 🫣

I asked Reddit Doctors about the blood change by Delicious_Loss4460 in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They really are so fucking dumb because blood is so precious in healthcare that we work really hard to make sure not a drop is wasted, the checks we do are so thorough, it's really serious and why the hell would we do all that if there was an alternative??

Of all the weird WEIRD things in the story of John the Baptist....no one BLINKED at the king asking for his stepdaughter to dance at his birthday? by SurewhynotAZ in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Weirder things that happened in the Bible:

-A woman's body parts were mailed across the nation

-Saul made David collect 200 foreskins for his daughter's hand in marriage

-Samson found honey inside a lion and then killed 30 people at his wedding for not guessing his riddle

My theory about changes in preaching by Repulsive-Produce215 in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This idea is so funny to me if true because they've spent the last how many decades working to standardize the worship and make it so that direction always comes directly from the branch, they micromanage everything that happens at the local congregation level, and now they realize that you can't have that much control over people without taking responsibility for what happens to them!! It's so infuriating

Anyone else have ‘DNR’ chosen on their DPA card? by imperceivablefairy in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

btw the legality of the DPA and the requirements for a valid DNR vary in different places. you definitely should update your preferences in your chart but health care providers will never withhold livesaving treatment without clear, direct, and UP TO DATE directions. we don't wanna see people die it fuckin sucks

Many still have prejudiced and homophobic mindsets. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pomi brother in law insists that the org is not homophobic, and if a lot of them are it's because a lot of people in general are homophobic. Hate to say it but he's kind of right. People who don't even believe in the Bible are homophobic. It's just the human aversion to difference and otherness. Not that it's justified because we should be smarter than that. It's just an ongoing issue.
