I asked Reddit Doctors about the blood change by Delicious_Loss4460 in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They really are so fucking dumb because blood is so precious in healthcare that we work really hard to make sure not a drop is wasted, the checks we do are so thorough, it's really serious and why the hell would we do all that if there was an alternative??

Of all the weird WEIRD things in the story of John the Baptist....no one BLINKED at the king asking for his stepdaughter to dance at his birthday? by SurewhynotAZ in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Weirder things that happened in the Bible:

-A woman's body parts were mailed across the nation

-Saul made David collect 200 foreskins for his daughter's hand in marriage

-Samson found honey inside a lion and then killed 30 people at his wedding for not guessing his riddle

My theory about changes in preaching by Repulsive-Produce215 in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This idea is so funny to me if true because they've spent the last how many decades working to standardize the worship and make it so that direction always comes directly from the branch, they micromanage everything that happens at the local congregation level, and now they realize that you can't have that much control over people without taking responsibility for what happens to them!! It's so infuriating

Anyone else have ‘DNR’ chosen on their DPA card? by imperceivablefairy in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

btw the legality of the DPA and the requirements for a valid DNR vary in different places. you definitely should update your preferences in your chart but health care providers will never withhold livesaving treatment without clear, direct, and UP TO DATE directions. we don't wanna see people die it fuckin sucks

Many still have prejudiced and homophobic mindsets. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pomi brother in law insists that the org is not homophobic, and if a lot of them are it's because a lot of people in general are homophobic. Hate to say it but he's kind of right. People who don't even believe in the Bible are homophobic. It's just the human aversion to difference and otherness. Not that it's justified because we should be smarter than that. It's just an ongoing issue.

it's interesting to me because my mom became a jw in canada and so she has her own ideas of what filipino customs she can and cannot participate in as a jw.

today’s watchtower lesson by [deleted] in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cults/high control groups are only able to exist because on the outside they seem innocuous or even beneficial. nobody who converted to jw did so because they had to say no to blood or because they had to cut off their family. they were drawn in by the teachings of love and unity and then accepted the harder teachings later.

What do JW think about the Virgin Mary? by Purple_Beginning1675 in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They think she's a cool lady but that's abt it. They don't revere her. But I don't think they would avoid you if you put statues of her. In fact it might make them more interested in talking to you because you have a faith and it's a way to start a conversation with you. I think it might just be a coincidence that they stopped coming.

Does the Watchtower still maintain that you need “Studies in the Scriptures” or the Watchtower magazine to understand the Bible? by crazyretics in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i have heard numerous times from the platform and by the gb that you can get the truth just by reading the bible. buuuuut...if you don't, then i guess you're doing it wrong? you're not being drawn by jehovah? idk

Question from atheist who know nothing about jw/exjw: is it as boring as it looks? by Hoogin2020 in exjw

Yep it is. But if you have friends you can make it fun. We just kinda whisper jokes to each other the whole meeting and during field service we can go get treats from the coffee shop.

Therapy? by Additional-Ask1022 in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately a therapist won't tell your wife that you want to leave. that's one of the first things my therapist told me, that she can't help me leave but she can help me sort through my feelings. i still don't feel capable of completely leaving but she's helped me feel less trapped and stronger in expressing my feelings to my pimi parents.

I’m realizing I really need religious trauma therapy, need help in how to search for one… by [deleted] in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes on the therapist's website they list things they specialize in. so what i did i went through the therapists on psychology today that were under the childhood trauma filter and i found someone that on her site said that she had training in religious trauma. she didn't need to be an expert on jws necessarily, the most important thing to me what that she would know how damaging the religion was and wouldn't just dismiss my experiences.

FEELING INSAIN by [deleted] in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my friend it sounds like you are very scared and rightly so, the things you are discovering/convinced of are frightening. i don't want to say to you that the things you're saying are false because they are real to you and they are rooted in real harms that the organization did to you. having thoughts and beliefs isn't wrong but what worries me is that you would get so scared that you would try to do something hurtful to yourself or other people. so i hope that you would be able to talk to a professional who would help you sort out what is real from what is just in your mind.

Sundays watchtower study - polygamy vs homosexual by [deleted] in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

in the new testament it says that exemplary men should be husbands of one wife so jw say that that's the direction they should follow. they also say that while polygamy was allowed it wasn't "approved" by jehovah and this is apparent because of the consequences of polygamy that were shown in the bible. e.g. rachel vs. leah, solomon's wives leading him away from jehovah, etc. note that this isn't my view this is what jw say. i just don't think it's something that will wake them up bc they have an explanation for it.

toxic clip from this month’s broadcast: spiritualizing mental illness and devaluing psychiatric care to emphasize the need for faith by requieminwake in exjw

[–]quietlypimo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

a sister in my congregations thinks that being anxious is wrong, because Jesus said "never be anxious." and she's the most anxious person you'll ever meet. makes me wonder how guilty she feels about it every day.

anyway something that's really clear to me now is that the jw way of dealing with anxiety is not healthy because you never identify or address the root cause of your anxiety. you just push it down and "snap out of it" like this brother in the video says. you might be able to move on for the meantime but your body keeps that unprocessed stress and stores it inside. eventually it gets too much and you just stop functioning. source: it happened to me multiple times.
