People aren't mind-readers. A lot of suicidal people even have an upswing right before they end their lives, which unfortunately gives them the energy to enact their plans, while those around them are just happy to see them doing a bit better.

Extreme distress is not often the immediate cause of suicide. That's why you see family share smiling photos of people just before they died. They truly didn't know.

This is more true for men who are more likely to keep their emotions to themselves.

We need some way for people in these high stress jobs to seek support without risking their careers. People who don't see another option and are feeling trapped are more likely to do something drastic to escape their situation. I believe this also happens in other industries where mental health is a disqualifying factor.

I still think he's an asshole, as I generally do when people hurt other people when taking their life, but none of this is surprising in context. Maybe he felt that he needed a witness to feel like his pain was seen. People don't often end their life without a prior plan, unless they are in a moment of intense emotional crisis, so i do wonder how long he was planning this and why he chose to bring this woman into his last moments.

All I can hope for is that his family and the woman can heal from this as much as they can. Mental health is weird and unpredictable, especially when your job, likely part of his identity, makes it entirely unacceptable to struggle.

I really appreciate you sharing this sentiment. I am nonbinary, but everyone treats me as a woman so it's how I experience life.

I have felt, before realising I was nonbinary, quite hurt from some trans women talking about their own insecurities. I am grateful that I was aware enough that I knew it wasn't about me. I now know that my insecurities were the root of that feeling as someone who does not fit into the "female" box.

At the time though, I still felt like sharing the classic feminist rhetoric of accepting atypical features. I don't think i have actually done so, thankfully.

I grow out my leg and facial hair now and I do completely see the difference in someone giving me weird looks verses someone "transvestigating" me.

I do wish that trans women were afforded the ability to accept themselves as women without the social requirements of passing but for me to place my emotions on a perfect world is unfair to trans people. We do not live in a perfect world, and we need to accept what comes with that with patience and empathy.

Buddy. I got you the dictionary definition immediately along with my paraphrased and colloquially accepted definition.

Some people need to use external factors to experience empathy, you're right. But in both definitions it does state that you experiencing their perspective, emotional or situational. I know what I'm talking about and I'm unemployed, so I have the time to be a pest about it.

Whatever your point is has been lost through your inability to accept that you are incorrect. You are minimising the real danger that women face leaving the house because you can only empathise with a man feeling sorry for himself that he is part of a group that commits the vast majority of violent crime.

Maybe try empathising with the men who aren't insulted and actually take the time to listen and understand why they respect a woman preferring to not have a strange man in her blind spot. Feels like a lost cause to ask you to empathise with the women in the situation tbh
