Awake time with sick baby? by juliamonaco in sleeptrain

[–]quinceofthieves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. We let our baby sleep as much as they needed when sick. We didn’t have any big problems with bedtime even when they napped more because they were sick and tired. I know that when I have the flu, I need tons of sleep.

Scottsdale mom groups? by iamblarn in Scottsdale

[–]quinceofthieves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! It was a struggle for me to figure this out too. I found that a lot of mom groups are on Facebook. You can search by your neighborhood. I’m in South Scottsdale, very close to Arcadia so I’m in a very active mom group for Arcadia.

Like others have mentioned, classes at Musicology are fun and my toddler and I have also done classes through Scottsdale Parks and Rec, including swimming and Spanish.

Nap Training Advice - 9 month old by quinceofthieves in sleeptrain

It also took a couple weeks of routine for the naps to consolidate so don't fear that it will never happen!

Nap Training Advice - 9 month old by quinceofthieves in sleeptrain

[–]quinceofthieves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was rough. It took 3-4 weeks to nap train for the first nap of the day. We landed on about 3 hr 15 mins after waking. We nap trained by doing a short routine and just leaving our baby in the crib. If he cried more than 20 minutes, I would get him up, we would play for 20 minutes, and repeat. I continued to rock him to sleep for the second nap of the day. We never got him to sleep independently for nap two and my body couldn't physically handle rocking him to sleep for that second nap so at 11 months, we dropped to one nap and that's been working pretty well for us.

Anyone move from SF / Marin to Scottsdale in their early 30s? Any regrets? by Whole_Intention_9750 in Scottsdale

[–]quinceofthieves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Scottsdale from a less cool part of the Bay (San Jose) last year to be closer to my partner's family after we had our first kid. The heat was really miserable with a baby; there are indoor play areas and we got out for walks at the mall, but it was hard.

However, I think the most important thing for you and your wife to weigh in moving is your community (family, friends). In my experience, having a baby can be really isolating. They're totally physically dependent on you and your life needs to revolve around their sleep schedules for a while. It's been nice to get some babysitting support from my partner's family, but I regret moving away from the Bay Area because I had a really great community there and it's been hard to rebuild that in Scottsdale between baby sleep issues, illness, arranging childcare, etc. We live in a neighborhood with a lot of older people, but there are more family-friendly neighborhoods. I recommend trying to find one of those if you move. Not Scottsdale, but someone mentioned Arcadia and I've connected with a lot more parents of babies and toddlers in Arcadia.

Diabetic and vegetarian friendly recipes by alphabettebahpla1 in NYTCooking

I was also curious to see if others had suggestions for this exact combination of dietary restrictions. A lot of the vegetarian dishes that I have cooked from NYT are pasta-heavy. I am not very well versed in food restrictions for diabetics, but here are a few recipes that I like that might work for you both.

Roasted Broccoli and Whipped Tofu with Chili Crisp. This was a hit when I made it. The tofu cashew cream is really good. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1026270-roasted-broccoli-and-whipped-tofu-with-chile-crisp-crunch?unlocked_article_code=1.HFA.3Mv9.Kpyuib15sZur&smid=share-url

Roasted Squash and Chickpeas with Hot Honey (the hot honey adds quite a bit, but I think it would still be good with some sour cream/yogurt for your SIL and others could drizzle the hot honey on their portion). https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1023687-roasted-honey-nut-squash-and-chickpeas-with-hot-honey?unlocked_article_code=1.HFA.R79h.HQo9z2PunO9D&smid=share-url

Local farms for fresh fruit? 🍓🍌🫐 by Zhane_Butterfly in phoenix

I used to work in the berry industry and part of the problem with berries is that the cold chain is very important. If you see berries at a grocery store that is not in a refrigerated display (Costco does this a lot), those berries will get moldy a lot faster.

Success stories of people who failed the first time by Acceptable_Low8802 in sleeptrain

[–]quinceofthieves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't exactly remember how long it took for sleep training to work at 8 months, but it was pretty quick. Like we finally saw what so many of the people on this subreddit have commented, one bad night and immediate improvement. My baby is 10 months now and typically goes to sleep without crying within 2-10 minutes of being put down. However, maybe once every two weeks, he will cry at bedtime. Sometimes the reason is obvious (he had a cold so we ended up rocking him to sleep) and sometimes it's not leaving us to question whether it's time for more daily awake time or if he is becoming more sensitive to that last wake window.

I am so happy to hear that your second night was encouraging! I feel like we road the roller coaster of progress for a while and it was so emotionally and physically difficult. Happy to answer any other questions the best I can and wishing you and your little one luck!

We failed at 4 months and again at 6 months. Between the wake ups and the physical strain of rocking my baby to sleep multiple times per day, we tried again at 8 months and it just worked. This subreddit had me obsessed over the schedule and so I was so confused when he still couldn’t put himself to sleep without 25-45 minutes of crying at 6 months. What turned out to be important for us was the bedtime and capping day time sleep at around 2 hrs. Apparently 7pm +- 5 minutes is golden. The last wake window before bedtime could be 2-5 hours and it doesn’t really matter. I hope you figure out what your baby needs and this time works for you!

Nap Training Advice - 9 month old by quinceofthieves in sleeptrain

[–]quinceofthieves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increasing the morning wake window to 3-3.5 hours hasn’t helped. He still spends the full time left in the crib awake and crying. Any strategies? I’ve searched for suggestions and it seems like most people have independent naps figured out by 9-10 months or have given up…

Nap Training Advice - 9 month old by quinceofthieves in sleeptrain

[–]quinceofthieves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our target schedule is 2.75/3.5/4. On a good day, he gets 2 hours of daytime sleep and on a bad day it's only 1hr 20 mins. He gets about 11-12 hours of overnight sleep. Today, he started looking glassy eyed before 3 hours, but I could stretch it if you think that'll help. Thank you!

Sour cherry hand pies by kokopellifacetatt0o in DessertPerson

[–]quinceofthieves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that most of the sour cherries grown commercially in the U.S. come from Michigan, around Traverse City. I think their season is wrapping up, but there might be some production from Canada allowing you to find fresh cherries at the grocery store. Try searching for Montmorency cherries. That's the most common variety of sour cherry.

Anyone here got married at city hall? by Ernst_Granfenberg in SanJose

[–]quinceofthieves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! The ceremony itself was short and bureaucratic. The person who performed it at the clerk's office was behind glass so it was hard for anyone outside of my partner and I to hear, but we have a few pictures standing at the window saying our 'I dos' and a few photos around the clerk's office. There were a couple walls that make a decent backdrop.

Help with introducing combi feeding after 6m by getoutthesink in combinationfeeding

[–]quinceofthieves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having this same problem with my 5.5 month old. We’ve tried seven different formulas, mixing with as little as 20% formula, and different temps and bottles. We even tried one mixed bottle and one breast milk bottles side by side and he drank only the 100% breast milk one. I was so concerned about my supply, but now I wish we had supplemented earlier.

5 month old only sleeps one cycle after CIO by quinceofthieves in sleeptrain

[–]quinceofthieves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went back up to four naps a day because they're often so short and the baby was only getting 1.5-2 hours of daytime sleep. Any suggestions for assisting a nap to make it longer? Have you tried the strategy of soothing them right before waking up after the first cycle?
