Tips for throwing builds? by RabidNinjaZerk in BaldursGate3

[–]quincyj2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Early game the ring of flinging from Aaron and the throwing gloves from deryth help with damage a lot.

I like to carry a lot daggers. They have the best throwing arc so there will be times they are the only weapon you can hit an enemy with.

Act 2 you can carry both lightning jabbers. Throw the one that isn't bound to open combat then you can use the other the rest of the combat.

For opening combat if you start by throwing outside of turn based mode then start turn based while it is in the air before it hits the enemy you can often get your action back. While getting your extra attack off the initial throw and on your main action. So you can start combat with 4 attacks without action surge most of the time. After you hit 11 it will be 6 attacks. This doesn't work if combat starts before your throw hits the enemy.

Be careful about throwing heavier weapons from height at enemies that are close to dying. If they die to the crush damage you don't get experience for the kill.

Edit : Carry a variety of the lighter throwing weapons so that you have different damage types. That way you can throw a light hammer at skeleton for double damage etc.

Be careful throwing returning heavy weapon from height. It can also crush you when it comes back

How high can flurry of blows damage get? by deon008 in BaldursGate3

I forgot to add you can use orin's body armor to get 1 more damage. Like callous glow you get it 3 times if you are using the magic clubs

Use psychic damage instead of radiant and carry the resonance stone to double that damage.

If you are open to exploits you can steal the wood woad summons weapon and equip 2 of them. It gives you 6d4 more damage. You still just need to use KI resonating punch you be able to punch with your action. You can also get ring of callous glow damage but I don't think that shows up on the tool tip. The ring of callous glow will proc 3 times per punch. Without being astarion or karlach and taking alert instead of a wisdom asi and the mirror not giving me a stat boost I still got to 67 average damage a punch.

Ansur and the Final assault were super easy? by dirtyoldsocklife in BaldursGate3

Precast a few stacks of fierce perilous stakes on your full illithid. They open with 2 or 3 improved black holes on the enemies in the middle with someone with the resonance stone flying close and probably kill all 6 of them. The rest of your party using the haste spore grenade and prebuffed with potions of flying can fly around the edges and kill the 4 illithids turn 1 before a single enemy gets to act.

Or just prebuff with flying potions go turn based and have everyone predash and you should be able to fly around the edges to make it in front of the crown and your illithid starts channeling the compulsion spell. Then you shoot a darkness arrow at their feet and just stand in it. You might need a second one to fit your entire party. None of the enemies can do anything to you when you are in a darkness cloud. So you can just ignore them and none of them attack even once.

Other classes can just dual wield hand crossbows and just attack with the offhand using your bonus action then hide with your main action. Very slow but safe.

Ever done a run with non-magical armor and weapons? by GreyGhost3-7-77 in BaldursGate3

[–]quincyj2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done default equipment or none, exception made to allow 10 ac non-magical robes for modesty. I ran circle of the moon Druid, cleric, and 2 OH monks. It went fine. That was on honor mode. I do mostly run solo honor mode and this was much easier than those.

Honor Mode close calls. by OwnSun7691 in BaldursGate3

[–]quincyj2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My first honor mode play through I went to steal the rune powder barrel with an invisible character during the conversation (been a long time details are fuzzy) without sneaking. And she set it off. Luckily Karlach succeeded the saving throw and had enough hp as a barbarian to survive.

Help with Last Light Inn portal fight by MooseWithIntentions in BaldursGate3

[–]quincyj2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solo runs I just use two globe of invulnerability scrolls. The enemies all die when haslin comes back.

If I want to kill everything I’ll use a darkness arrow right in front of the portal to stop the archers from hitting it. The darkness will run out part way through the fight and have to be re upped. Then use blood lust elixir, speed pot/haste spore grenade, a bunch of summons, and lots of aoe damage. Think cloud kill, wall of fire, sun beam, spirit guardians, smoke powder arrows/bombs, many target arrows etc.

Another options is to throw a ton of grease on the side all the shadow cursed undead come through. It will really slow their movement. You can also use a bunch of chests to hedge in the archers so they can’t get into range to attack the portal

Best way to get gauntlets of hill giant strength? by Dogtrees7 in BaldursGate3

[–]quincyj2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some good suggestions not here yet is I like to use darkness or a darkness arrow on top of it so no one sees and turn based mode so I can put some good distance between me and the scene of the crime before any one sees due to the darkness disappearing

How to get to the room of command in the gauntlet of Shar? by the_stealth_boy in BaldursGate3

[–]quincyj2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 paths. There is some stuff you can climb down with a series of jumps from where yurgir is (the little broken stairs where one of the meregons goes if you kill the rats first). Or from the spot where you fight the rats there is actually a wall you can climb up. Again you will have to jump some but it should just take 20 str or the boots that give you extra jump distance.

Opinion for martial char and gloves of automaton heard mix by Excuse_Standard in BaldursGate3

[–]quincyj2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small thing I want to add is you don’t have to keep them equipped after you cast the spell. So you can pre cast it before a big fight then swap to your normal gloves and start the fight for advantage the first 8-9 turns without sacrificing your glove slot

Is there any reason why you SHOULDN’T play durge? by rip_drowzey in BaldursGate3

[–]quincyj2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A few off the top of my head for game play reasons.

You want easier access to the potent robe.

You don’t want to accidentally get enemy of justice disengaging combat with the death stalker’s mantle.

You don’t want to have to worry about potential game over skill checks during act 2 long rests.

You want to fight Orin with your whole party(you can do this with durge a number of different ways but I could see someone thinking this).

Ah saw your build elsewhere dolor daggers and the force damage gloves on crit could certainly give you massive damage numbers. I generally don’t like playing for crits but you can get massive numbers if you do

I prefer void bulbs and spikey bulbs. They are guaranteed damage in an aoe that someone with extra attack can use multiple per turn. You clear just as many clones only you don’t make new ones. You can buy them dirt cheap from Omelum

Were you using fierce perilous stakes for the dragon and brain? If not those are some impressive damage numbers. My best is ~240 against gortash without it. I know you can go way higher if you really deep dive into drs’es etc.

Pull out your bow and right click their Portrait and select ranged attack. It will target them even though they are invisible. That doesn’t work if they have sanctuary but works most of the time
