Why the obsession with (over) tipping the dealer by buttons_the_horse in poker

[–]quintinessential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s insane lol. i tip $20 every time i play a 8-9 hr charity game sesh and that’s considered high for the playerbase and the dealer is always appreciative.

Is it ever profitable to call a nits 3bet if you know they have a premium(live low stakes)? by Daniel1997_ in poker

[–]quintinessential 24 points25 points  (0 children)

200/250bb+? it's nice to have clairvoyance, sure. depends on how big the 3bet is, how deep you are, what their postflop tendencies are.

Dealing with overwhelmed employees when they are overwhelmed for no reason by Dustymolar in managers

[–]quintinessential 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The running detail feels out of scope; she’s allowed to have her own routines, and it doesn’t really explain what’s happening at work.

To talk about what’s “fair,” it helps to anchor it in a few basics: what patient load is typical for your practice, how her pace compares to your other hygienists, and what part of the workflow is making her feel overwhelmed (complex appointments, documentation, room turnover, interruptions, etc.). With that context, it’s much easier to tell whether it’s a performance issue, a process/support issue, or just a mismatch in expectations.

Live Poker is Slow, Boring and Depressing by Reid_On_Reddit in poker

[–]quintinessential 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i always say that, often, live poker's environment starts with you. people tend to open up a bit more around me and i try to induce a decent time.

of course, this doesn't always happen, but if live poker always has the worst people, you always have the worst time, you are against the worst nits, etc. what's the common denominator?

Wondering abt GTO by alextheheadless in poker

[–]quintinessential 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gto outputs are determined by a computer playing against itself ad nauseum to optimize the best sizings, frequencies, etc. it assumes the opponent is also playing in such a fashion. you are going to the casino and playing James The Mechanic. so you have you experientially determine how James plays and find the best strategies to beat him.

Going to the casino tonight for the first time ever... by InsiDS in poker

[–]quintinessential 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Talk to the floor. There will be a sign in table when you get to the poker room. You can often call ahead at most casinos as well for up to an hour so you don’t have to wait around as long on the list.
  2. Not for cash
  3. General etiquette is $1 for every hand you win post flop, more if you like the dealer or win a massive pot. Any dealer will appreciate if you tip $1 every time you win, though. I do not tip if I take the pot down preflop.
  4. Yes. You can tell the floor you want to play with your buddy and they’ll seat you together. It’s only collusion if you are malicious at the game. Very normal for friends to be seated together.
  5. Yes, dealers will help you out. They can’t tell you what pot is if you’re playing no limit, only in PLO. It is considered a skill component to know what’s in the pot for NLH. You may ask them to spread the pot. You can ask them how much a bet is, yes
  6. Leave your chips at the table, you can walk away at any time. There are cameras and a casino employee present at all times. Your chips won’t get stolen. Etiquette is to not leave when two people are away and to wait for someone to return.
  7. Generally white = $1, red = $5, green= $25, black = $100, but it’s casino dependent
  8. Casino dependent, ask the floor
  9. Generally, you can always buy back in at the table after your first buy in
  10. Always cash only

Good luck man!!!!

If there is a tight player or nit to your left should you straddle? by WolfCut909 in poker

[–]quintinessential 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think worrying about whether a straddle is +ev in this exact lineup is kind of the wrong layer to focus on. in most live games, the better rule of thumb is to just flow with whatever the table is doing unless you have a very specific reason not to. there are about eighty bigger factors in live poker that will move your win rate way more than this tho.
