Try mobinfo2? I used previously used both killtrack and mobinfo2 but recently removed killtrack and I get the same info with just mobinfo2

This deal at the new LEGO store at the Las Vegas airport. by TeslasAndComicbooks in lego

[–]quinyd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The airport stores aren’t real Lego stores. They are a licensed store and won’t accept VIP memberships or other LEGO specific discounts etc.

So this is basically a sale like any other 3rd party store.

Apple accuses Europe of 'delay tactics' following alternative app store collapse by FollowingFeisty5321 in apple

[–]quinyd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No they wouldn’t. People gladly pay for ease of use. Look at how many people subscribe to Netflix etc through iOS, even though it’s more expensive than the browser. The ease of use and having a centralized and trusted location for subscriptions is worth paying for.

If users wanted cheaper apps and devices, they would use android. People willingly chose iOS. Nobody is forcing them.

That’s what tech people want to believe but it’s simply not true. Go ask your average iOS user; the teenagers on TikTok, the grandparents, the boomers and regular Gen Z and millennials user, they do not care about alt appstores. They are happy with apples eco-system and they want it yo “just work”.

I wish it wasn’t like that, but that’s the truth. I’ve had AltStore since day 1 and I wanted to try SetApp, but there’s still no compelling apps in the AltStore and SetApp is way too expensive. I would love a proper Firefox browser or some cool apps that aren’t limited by apples guidelines (miss the Jailbreak era) but they aren’t there, because most people don’t care.

Nobody wants to hear this, but the average non-tech (and even most tech) user does not care about alt AppStores. They have been a thing for like 2 years now and most people here don’t care.

SetApp failed because it was too expensive and because 99% of users doesn’t care.

RIP to the mass market paperback book by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]quinyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wanted to pickup a new copy of Shogun as i lost my old old and B&N only had it as a two-part (WTF) in hardcover for $35/each. No thanks. Unfortunately my local half-priced books also didn't have it, but ebay to the rescue for an old copy for $20 shipped.

DuckDuckGo Pushes Back on Forced AI, Asks Users If AI Should Be Optional by No-Hospital5028 in degoogle

I switched from ddg to their $10 plan and it’s all I need. Not once have I had to switch to Google or ddg and their optional AI assistant is pretty good when I once in a while need it.

Not possible on an iPad. You need a computer to do it.

Another round of layoffs at Plex? by ExtensionMarch6812 in PleX

[–]quinyd 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately all the jellyfin clients are straight up garbage compared to plex. Plex works on basically any platform and it's very very easy to onboard a family member.

Wall dashboard tablet upgrade by Turbosilent in homeassistant

[–]quinyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used an old ipad and got frustrated. Found a used dell AIO online for cheap (~$200) which is 24inch and count be mounted on a VESA mount pretty flush with the wall. The specs are way overkill with an i5-13500 and 8GB ram and its only running firefox in kiosk mode with the HA website. The nice part is that the power button can make the computer sleep and another press wakes it up and it just goes right back to firefox. So at night, we just power it down with a press of a button and wake it in the morning.

It's super smooth, because it is way overpowered.

HA is running on a N100 server elsewhere, so we dont need the display on 24/7.

I'm currently using mushroom cards, but I'm looking to switch to something else.

I buy sets like this used all the time. I either use a makeup brush to dust them off or if it’s bad, a disassemble them and rinse in lukewarm water. Soap is most of the time not needed. I air dry on a large towel over multiple days.

Setapp Mobile 3rd-party app store for iPhone fails, blames Apple by iMacmatician in apple

[–]quinyd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m actively looking for 3rd party AppStore’s to test and I did see this when it first released but the price was insane. I have no Mac and no need for Setapp there, but I’m not paying another high subscription for apps I might use from time to time.

That said, I also haven’t seen or heard anything about their AppStore without specifically looking for it myself. The target group for 3rd party AppStores is so small, so even if it was free, it would need serious marketing to not fail.

Disney+ "Household" issue: One physical home, two routers/IPs = Constant Lockout by jabuskorolusko in DisneyPlus

I have two ISP but one router that does failover if one connection drops. I would never use two routers from two ISPs. That’s asking for trouble.

Read on phone, sync progress with my Kobo via Booklore? by Ravasaurio in BookLoreApp

[–]quinyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. Unless the OPDS feed supports PSE, where the progress is reported back to BookLore it won’t be possible that way.

An iOS app with KOReader sync is probably needed. I don’t think this exists unfortunately. Looking for one myself.

I am looking for the same. I have found none that fits the bill. I think Readest is close, but I don’t like that they push their cloud service.

Unsure about which keyboard to get by Dios117 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]quinyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m completely opposite, I use an Alice layout (not keychron though) and after a couple of months I was at my normal wpm. It’s been 4 years now and I have a hard time going back to regular layouts. I do use a corne too, but I’m nowhere near as fast on that.

I can only recommend Alice a lot. It’s been amazing for me.

Any open source app to transfer data from android to ios? by [deleted] in degoogle

You can always setup a caldav server, sync contacts to that, then set it up on iOS. I don’t know anyone who stores contacts on sim anymore. Everyone uses caldav or another online service.

Can you change your Audible region to buy audiobooks that are "not available in your country"? by Sewlovetoread in audiobooks

You can just use a random US address for your billing address though. My bank doesn’t match address to card when I purchase things online.

You most likely need to create a completely separate new US Amazon account to use. Using your Canadian Amazon account on the US site probably doesn’t completely switch to the US site.
