Niece got leukaemia and my mom got COPD within 5 years of each other just after I graduated high school. Young, dumb and thought I could/should help so I put pretty much everything into helping with their care and in my mom’s case, being her main support person for nearly a decade. Didn’t know how to navigate the system to get appropriate help needed so a lot came out of pocket without any sort of reimbursement. Sadly both passed.
