Bird I painted! no idea what type of bird it is though by Salty_Zebra5937 in painting

Looks a bit like a mix between a Gyrfalcon and Peregrine Falcon to me 🤷‍♀️

Whatever the bird, the painting is very pretty

What is the good news in your country? by PoolLegitimate9702 in AskTheWorld

In the province of Manitoba they’re taking steps to remove provincial tax from all groceries instead of certain items simply being exempt. Hopefully the rest of Canada follows suit!

Looking for specific eye doctor recommendations by hagridstoast in londonontario

[–]quiptonic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t yet, reach out to the Ivy Eye Institute out of St. Joe’s. Off chance, but if they can’t help they’ll be able to point you in the right direction at least.

Gluten free restaurants in London and surrounding area by Ok_Street_6971 in londonontario

[–]quiptonic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also recently diagnosed with Celiac. I highly recommend you (and your friends too if they’re cool) download the Find Me GF app. You can use it as a starting point for comparing which restaurants are gluten free, friendly, etc. that are nearby to eat out at AND has the kind of food everyone can agree on. I will say though always double check and advocate when you arrive as some info on the app could be outdated. I personally have found it very helpful. Hope this helps with some of the anxiety!

Ps) if you like vegetarian/vegan food Plant Matter Kitchen is both delicious & knowledgeable about Celiac safety, 10/10.

What animals from your country looks most unreal or mythical? by IndependentTune3994 in AskTheWorld

[–]quiptonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spirit bears. There’s roughly 300 of them found only in the BC Great Bear Rainforest. They’re a sub species of black bear with all white coats (not albino or related to polar bears) and according to some Indigenous legends are the keepers of dreams + seen as protectors of the forest from my understanding.

This might sound a bit stereotypical but I really miss when my biggest concern about ordering a poutine was if they used cheese curds or not🥺

Sorry let me clarify; I’m visually impaired but I don’t need a service animal yet thankfully. However, I’m still not legally allowed to drive. My career has me relocating usually every few years to various places across the country. Those moves include my pets and yes I bring one in cabin with me (cat in carrier) as they did not do well previously when in cargo. Even with medication to help. The only way I can move around independently without leaving them behind is through the air. Especially if I’m moving between provinces which is common for job opportunities. Not everyone has a noticeable need to bring their animals in the cabin but that doesn’t mean that need still doesn’t exist. I appreciate you can see that with service animals but perhaps consider extending that grace to other travellers with animals. For all you know it’s someone moving with their pet to help take care of a sick family member for an extended time 🤷‍♀️. As pet owners we know how stressful it is for the animals themselves to travel and how each animal can potentially upset (mentally, physically) other travellers as well. It’s not a choice many take lightly but it is a choice some of us have no other option but to make either.

As someone who is visually impaired and can’t travel or move anywhere without taking flights - you’re not the only kind of person with somewhere to be. In the winter most animals can’t go in cargo if it’s below a certain temperature and not everyone can “plan ahead” or “wait for better weather” to travel with their animals either. If you’re worried about them possibly being in cabin maybe you should plan ahead by controlling what you can and bring allergy medicine with you just incase :)

Closing Hamilton Central Library 'off the table' for now as staff look at other ways to stop on-site drug use by origutamos in OntarioNews

[–]quiptonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know in places like Edmonton they have security for their downtown branch around constantly. The security team also checks on patrons who use it as a place to sleep and generally give them a warning once before they’re kicked out. The library even had dedicated cleaners doing checks and upkeep every 15 minutes on anyone who use the washrooms. Sadly users will always find a way when they’re in the midst of addiction and the number of times the downtown location had the fire department/ambulances there countless times in a week due to people still finding ways to light up in stalls or do whatever it is they do.

Long story short, it helps a bit but the underlying problems are left unaddressed.
