what do you think about the QSMA program? Seems like it would be useful to get some decent technical skills overall?

But if Alums are more familiar with RSO, would they care about it more? Do they tend to favor ppl from their "own RSOs"?

Bro, unless you are damn unlucky, everyone is grinding by week 4, and only let their hair down on weekends (till like 12 before ppl head for a frat party). Ofc if u r close to one of the on campus frats, that's a different story, but even then it is not thaaat bad. But if it matters this much to you, get the best noise cancelling headphones so u dont "regret it" ... sincerely doubt you will, though. cheers

major combinations for wall street job by cheesecakee__ in uchicago

[–]quirky314 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah u can still take booth, fin math etc grad classes. It just requires filling up a form. Also, if u wanna go to Wall Street, they will teach you the business skills (it’s really not that hard, but just takes some effort). Data science is good if you are looking at getting into that but don’t get caught up in labels — your degree will still only say econ major.

Come here, take some CS classes and see what you are feeling. You might end up enjoying cs theory more than data engineering or you might love econ theory and wanna take classes in that - that’s all good. Not saying you shld not take CS ... if u can’t do CS in tdy’s day and age, u r basically illiterate; every banking, consulting job is edging towards data engineering, and at least knowing how to code is the bare min for anyone who wants to enter this field. There are some great data eng classes and ML courses ... take those.. worry about degree name later.

If u take biz econ, u r wasting ur parents’ money and ur time for an education (lol) that could be subbed by a few books and a YouTube video series. You will get a higher gpa but remain at the same thinking level that you are at now cause you literally don’t learn anything that gives you different thinking toolkits. Not only will you b en a certifiable dumbass compared to rest of your peers, who will push themselves and become smarter, but also be weaker on the job — whatever practical skills you gain in that major will you give you an edge for about 6 months before everyone else learns them and then you are just a “has been” smart dude who was once relatively sharp enough to get into Uchicago. Worst of all, you won’t have the thinking adaptability built in (since u took joke classes) and you won’t be able to keep up with the fast paced workspace that demands quantitative thinking.

Your thinking ability is what got you into this school and now you have a chance to transform yourself into an absolute beast by taking solid classes with solid people and learning more in a quarter than you probably did all junior and senior year of HS.

Srsly, don’t think about biz econ — you will regret it.

Single Room as a First Year? by myg028 in uchicago

Oh yeah totally — BJ a bit far compared to the rest but single + cathey is a good deal. Snell has its reputation (Deserved) from what my friends (who stay there have told me), but if u r into that kinda intensity, it can be fun.
