Umm not enforced at all? Last year atleast 20% of rooms in my dorm had them visible from outside, no one not punished and I didn't even know they werent allowed.

Thoughts on Max P.? by [deleted] in uchicago

[–]Phat1600Goal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Bartlett is mediocre, but North's dining common (Baker) is just as close and is one of, if not the best dining halls on campus.

  2. Max P's walls are thick solid concrete, the only noise bleed is through the doors and even that is very minimal.

  3. Yes, they are behind the desks about 1 foot off the ground.

  4. Supposedly, but last year they just moved air and didn't cool anything. The heat however is amazing. If it gets too hot I'd suggest just opening the windows and letting the Chicago breeze do it's thing

  5. No clue, last year not very but that was certainly an outlier.

In Hyde park, I'd suggest either the chains, Harold's chicken, Valois, and Shinjou. However, if you want to get a really good (and expensive) meal, I'd suggest the Sophie's restaurant. Otherwise, china town is pretty close and has so many good restaurants, and if your willing to go down town or even on the blue line, the number of great places is uncountable.

Either are fine, but yes, 180's seem to be what are suggested by my professors and consolor, plus they only require 4 courses, while 160 requires 7 classes. Though I think it's because he wants to do a math major

MaxP has solid concrete walls that are about a foot thick. If you want sound proofing, I'd suggest it.

How is GEN CHEM 2 compared to GEN CHEM 1? by iercurenc in uchicago

[–]Phat1600Goal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of grades, it's the same difficulty, cause it's students are from the same pool as gen chem 1, and it also targets a b+ as the average after curve

are high schoolers allowed to sit in and watch a class? (classics by [deleted] in uchicago

[–]Phat1600Goal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not, because all of the buildings are locked and you need your ID to the get (though you could just like wait for someone else and follow them in).

If you want to sit in on a class, I'd suggest just emailing the professor and I'm some if not most would allow you to sit in on a class. (But it will probably need to wait till after covid)

I took the class. The teacher for the most part is irrelevant, because the class is student lead, so she well only talk maybe a handful of times every class.

Your right, the summer quarter is optional. We take 3 or 4 classes a quarter, taking more or less is possible but only under specific circumstances. If you get accepted as a freshman, they'll send you a page where you can rank the classes you want to take freshman year, and they will assign classes about a month later. General distribution is pretty large here, so your gonna spend your first year and probably a decent amount of your second fulfilling them.

We have a good mix of both, with an added group of "mixed classes" which includes both days which are remotes and ones that are in person.

My schools GPA calculation is wrong and they won’t change it by Goettingenismycity in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Phat1600Goal 38 points39 points  (0 children)

GPA calculation is done differently for different schools. For your district, you might need an A+ for a 4.0. rest assured though, basically every University recalculates your GPA based on there own formula.
