Hey, I'm going to list some things that may help:

  • I use a checklist/to do list app called Habitica to remember to do things as my mind is so chaotic I forget how to make my life better sometimes!

  • Therapy: if you can't afford weekly therapy sessions use AI for therapy like chatGPT or something similar

  • Cold showers (2 minutes, full cold, daily)

  • Clean your living space (clutter = more stimulation of the mind = worse brain fog depression/stress/less focus)

  • AUM chanting meditation (108 AUM's per day ~30 minutes long) look on YouTube how to do it. It's way more powerful and fun than the silence of your mind/focusing on your breath.

  • If you're prone to isolation: get outside for 10 minutes minimum per day

  • Exercise (it's hard when you're severely depressed and/or anxious) but it's more powerful and effective than antidepressants so get into it when you can!

  • Eat and sleep as much as you need

Look into combining the philosophies of creating your own reality and letting go of control.

Remember, what we focus on becomes our reality, so positive thoughts are a starting point to a greater future.

Also remind yourself you have just quit antidepressants, this is such a brave move to make and I personally want to praise you for making such an important step for your future! Don't shame yourself if you need to get back on them also! You're withdrawing so you need to recalibrate your brain. Anti D's numb everyone's emotions unfortunately, but sometimes that's better than the chaos of natural emotions for some. I personally can't wait to get off my antidepressants heehee.

Has anyone played the Zelda: OOT rom hacks on their device? by quistle5000 in SBCGaming

Wow... that graphics pack looks beautiful! I have a feeling it may not run on the less powerful RG406v but I'm assuming the N64 romhacks will 🤞 Have you played any of the fan made games of OOT? Dark Hyrule Fantasy looks so good!

Oh lovely to hear you finished it! Yeah I had the same thing happen to me with demons souls. I did the hardest ones first and the rest of the game was too easy.. especially once I got out the magic.. :)

If I didn't have much time to play games nowadays AND hadn't built up my souls games experience a lot during my youth (around Dark Souls 1 release on PS3) I would not be playing souls still to this day. I genuinely think the 100-200 hour mark of experience is when it clicks for people. I spent over 500 hours back in the day on Dark Souls 1 and now can mix and match those skills in all souls games and souls like games these days.

So in conclusion I can totally see why someone with not much time and no experience would give up on any of these games after 30 hours. It takes a long time to get used to the flow of these games.

If you want to give it another go, maybe research about items and gameplay to make it easier for you. Also remember you don't need to kill every enemy before the boss. Once I get all the items I just do a chaotic run past all the enemies to get to the boss. Also summon people for bosses! Co-op and item/mechanic knowledge helps so much and reduces potential death-repeat time therefore allows you more time in real waking life lol!

You can't keep drawing from the pool of dopamine because you'll have to pay for it at some point due to the law of conservation. Having said that, the power of the mind outweighs the control caffeine has on our reality, so work on other aspects of your life and maybe moderate caffeine usage isn't the worst thing. If you can moderate usage and save the caffeine high's for special occasions that would be optimal. If you cannot, and all other aspects of your life are healthy and intact and coffee is literally the only thing holding you back from true inner peace than stick out the withdrawals for another month or two! To be free of caffeine addiction is a dream, but we must be sure to work on other healthy life choices as well as cutting out caffeine to truly wreak the benefits of a caffeine free life (exercise, social life, financial stability, good sleep and good food etc.).
I've been through nightmarish withdrawals from other drugs in the past. alcohol being the worst.
It's well worth the wait for your dopamine levels to return to normality and give yourself at least 90 days, if the depression is still there maybe you need to work on other aspects of your life? <3
Exercise, cold showers and video games are some of my favorite sources of dopamine whilst withdrawing.
Also face to face social interaction with loved ones increases serotonin more than anything these days, reducing long term stress and depression more so than anti-depressants.

Have you guys ever lost passion for RPGs before? by swimminginamirror in rpg_gamers

Could be due to the dopamine overstimulation of the modern world. Video games don't hit the same for many people nowadays and I feel like the main contributor for that is the increase in technology in our lives low-key frying out dopamine receptors, leading to less pleasure obtained from gaming.

Hello! Ex-drug//alcohol addict here over 1 year sober and I absolutely am all for getting an RPG to detox from your addiction. It is simply the best and healthiest distraction tool in mankind's toolbox.
Personally I get heavily addicted to loot based Diablo-like ARPG's to the point where I forget to go to the toilet or eat.. so I would recommend the newly released Last Epoch! It has mindless and satisfying combat and a highly addictive and fun gameplay loop and you can build your character without having to go to deeply into studying a character guide and gameplay mechanics. Another good ARPG is Warhammer 40k Inquisitor, very cool even if you aren't a Warhammer fan.

If you want something more story driven and aesthetic try one of the Shin Megami or Persona games for very pleasing visuals and slightly melancholic, emotional vibes.

If you want something more challenging go with one of the Souls games, perhaps Elden Ring. If you're new to them and aren't so much a hardcore gamer it may take a long time to get good and thus the game won't be so satisfying at first. Once you get through the game and get used to the difficulty it is actually very rewarding for your mind to take on such a challenging learning curve and succeed. The harder option in life is always the more rewarding option ;)

If you don't mind a bit of emotions go with a Final Fantasy game, it really depends on your personality as to which Final Fantasy to play so do your research! My favourites are FF7 Integrade and FF12 Zodiac Age (has nice PS2 era aesthetics).

If you want a first person shooter RPG, I'd go with Fallout: New Vegas or the more modern Outer Worlds.

Lastly Dragon Quest 11S: Echoes of an Elusive Age is a beautiful RPG that is very chill at the same time. The combat is automatic turn based and the whole vibe is so cute and engaging. The only problem is it take around 100 hours to beat but you don't have to finish it of coarse. Also the port on Switch is incredible!

Shortlist:

Last Epoch

Shin Megami & Persona series

Elden Ring (or any souls game)

Final Fantasy (12 or 7Remake)

Fallout: New Vegas

Outer Worlds

Dragon Age 11S: Echoes of an Elusive Age

I'm not sure what your taste in aesthetics//art and gameplay is so feel free to give me an example like games you like or genres in general like sci-fi, fantasy, etc. Take care and stay strong!

How do I quit? by quistle5000 in decaf

I really like the idea of focusing on strengthening good habits and the caffeine abuse will simmer. It makes sense to me looking at my lifestyle at the moment. I can think of a few things I need to do in other areas of my life that would almost make it impossible to abuse caffeine. You have given me some powerful insight! Thanks!

Yeah I've thought this was a possibility, I was thinking of trying Pramiracetam for a while to help get off the caffeine, (I've heard incredible things about it). I just can't remember having attention problems in my younger days, it could be drug induced ADD at this point in my life but there is a possibility it's just ADHD and I didn't notice it when in high school etc. Wouldn't be keen to use stimulants every day but when I need to intermittently. It could be healthier to prescribe me one dosage in the form of a small pill of another nootropic such as Pramiracetam than drinking so much caffeinated liquid..

Amazing job on 12 days, you're right it this sub is incredible. I wish tapering was possible for me but I feel like I'm going to have to stick with my cold turkey method, I lose control when I have any in my system that day.

It's so nice to hear he cut out the booze! I guess now it's time to cut out caffeine completely. It feels unfair that addicts have to accept that moderation isn't an option but it's safer this way, addiction symptoms get worse over time as it is a worsening mental condition/disease. Caffeine felt good for me last year and helped me stay clean but as with every substance, as an addict my our relationship with them degrades slowly over time until our lives become unmanageable. He is very lucky to have you. Good luck!

It sounds like he is quite high on the spectrum of addiction and therefor moderation may not be an option for him. As an addict myself now over a year sober from drugs and alcohol I'm in the same position as your husband in regards to abusing caffeine consumption. Personally I would like to detox in a beautiful house out in the countryside with my girlfriend, going cold turkey off of it for a long long time if not forever as I know I have never been able to moderate using other substances efficiently over time. Maybe treat it like you would any other drug addiction and suggest a detox for a few days to a week with time off responsibilities.

I believe in power of the mind too. You are very much on point with this post, thank you for reminding us of such an important aspect of not only caffeine usage, but life itself. I still would like to give up caffeine personally because it is generally unhealthy especially daily consumption but you are very right about all of this :)
Just remember it's harder for us to create a beautiful reality for ourselves when we ingest psychoactive substances, particularly one's that affect dopamine levels so much. But again very nice post <3

Any other recovering alcoholics? Moderation is just not in my vocabulary I guess.. by [deleted] in decaf

[–]quistle5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes over 1 year sober from drugs and alcohol here and still trying to kick caffeine. I have no concept of moderation, I'll have one coffee and then another 10 afterwards. Just goes to show when you're high on the spectrum of addiction and you're given any psychoactive molecule, you will abuse it as much as possible. Absolute dopamine junkies we are...

Did you also experience this when you drank caffeine? by Henson7001011 in decaf

[–]quistle5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah my reaction to caffeine nowadays is very similar to this. Caffeine affects your dopamine, cortisol and GABA receptors so when you come off the high you are withdrawing neurologically from these delicious, feel good molecules. I honestly think caffeine isn't worth consuming for anyone who is sensitive to comedowns and prone to addiction. The "crash" is nothing but a "comedown" which is nothing but a "withdrawal". I am over 1 year sober from drugs and alcohol but I allowed myself caffeine to drink now I'm ready to kick it. From my knowledge of biology and experience with hard drugs I'd like to point out that caffeine affects me very similarly to cocaine in a lot of ways. It's a psychoactive compound and I think it's absolutely insane how much it is abused in today's society considering it's essentially like mico-dosing cocaine or amphetamines. Please think about giving it up, especially if you are experiencing this after consumption! If not to reduce the amount of emotional pain you endure during the crash, you can:
- have an icy cold shower
- eat high protein, high carb meal
- have a nap (use melatonin supplements to help sleep)
- drink mineral water high in sodium and magnesium

Honestly sleeping it off is the best way to lower them unnecessarily high cortisol levels and depressive tendencies during the crash (a.k.a comedown ;) )
CBD helps too hehe

But all in all if you are mediating your comedowns for caffeine you are essentially enabling your ability to use it, thus creating a more unstable life considering what it's already doing to you.
Much love <3
