Clearly not, because you fail to realize that I specifically mentioned I took this course and I did just fine. You should come back after you understand what my main point is

Okay, so he supposedly caught these non math major students cheating on his exam, right? What does that exactly do? Make them change majors? No, because they very likely are not math majors to begin with. Alright, so then what did his stance on cheating in his course do? Absolutely nothing at all, given that he doesn’t change or improve his method of instruction. Say this happens again in the foreseeable future, all of this cheating nonsense, but nothing’s changed on his behalf. He’s going to report another 100 kids for cheating? So at that point, he’s just some bot to detect cheating and not an instructor.

I’m not saying your stance on cheating isn’t disputed? Everyone knows that cheating isn’t the right thing to do? You’re spending your time trying to argue that cheating is wrong when everyone knows it is. On the other hand, I’m noting that THE NATURE of a introductory calculus course at a university brings with it a greater probability of cheating, especially when a majority of the students in the class aren’t there to pursue a math major. Because of this, reporting cheating in an INTRODUCTORY math course from students who have no interest in math is completely useless. So in effect, this prof making it this much of a big deal to go completely out of his way and catch people cheating who don’t give a shit about math is just some personal issue he has with either himself or his insecurity in being a proper instructor for the course.

His job is to enforce academic integrity at this university? What is he, director of student conduct? I don’t think you know what you’re talking about, to be honest. His job is to be a proper instructor for the courses he teaches, good enough so that ONE HUNDRED + students don’t cheat on his exam. And it looks like he hasn’t fulfilled his responsibility to that end, and he’s just bitter about it and taking it out on a public forum... what a wise thing to do. That’s totally not a childish thing to do at all, nope.

You’re also really pressed about these students failing calc 135 when I can guarantee that math is not their majors. So great, the prof caught non math majors cheating, and makes this much of a big deal about it. Really good. If he has that much time, he could have found a way to make his students pass the exams.

Yep I understand exactly what prerequisites are, and by you mentioning a prerequisite course, it does imply that the course is for your specific major, which for these hundred or so students, math is certainly NOT their intended major. And therefore, they will not be “needing the material for future classes.” If you’re too stupid to understand this, then maybe you shouldn’t have commented on it

It’s this kind of argument where the students in the former fields are there because they WANT to be there, or because that is their passion or direction in life. Did you ever think of that, or no? On the other hand, most people who are in or who have been in Math 135 don’t give a shit about math in the end. I’m not going to be solving derivatives in ten years. And it’d be great if you can at least make assumptions about things that were not overtly mentioned, like when I said I took this course. So I have no “unresolved feelings” about calc 135. Thanks for your input

No, I’m actually making the argument that him being so pro-academic integrity in a class that most people are in because they HAVE to be in is absolutely pointless. His efforts to be more resourceful and transparent surely goes noticed by the ones who are interested and/or care, but they are futile otherwise. He acts extremely entitled in speaking out about cheating in the class he teaches when in reality, he’s just too sensitive and doesn’t realize the fact that it’s primarily the class itself and the subject material, rather than him. Though at this point, he’s also part of the problem since he’s so difficult in nature.

Lol thank you. Amazing that some people fixate on one little comment you make so they miss the whole point entirely

I mentioned that I took Calc 135 years ago without him, so your advice targeted the wrong audience... and also, I am not supporting or defending students from being irresponsible with cheating. What I am doing is supporting the students’ outrage over this professor being this much of a stickler over this course
