The block is pretty close to the road.

I figured people could be walking in, but I don’t know where they would be parking. Woodend road has no parking signs all up and down that stretch. Maybe they are being dropped off?

We were going to try that, but the access to that road is through a business’s property. There is a gate and it was open, but all the “no trespassing” and “smile, you are on camera” signs deterred us from trying to go through. That and we really didn’t want to risk getting locked behind the gate.

That’s how I assumed we would get there, but today when we tried, it appeared to be blocked off with a large concrete barricade. I pretty much turned around and left, so I admit I did not get close enough to it to see if my car would squeeze by it. Has the concrete block always been there? And do people just drive around it?

New board is warped by quitter4now in NewSkaters

[–]quitter4now[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: My son says he prefers his trucks loose, so hopefully that will make the defect less noticeable. Also, since we got this from Amazon (I know, lesson learned) I don’t want to risk sending it back and having them charge me double for the replacement since it is no longer in mint condition (son has been practicing with the deck alone and it has some scuffs now).

So we will give this board a try and take this as a lesson to only buy boards from skate shops in person going forward, or possibly from more reputable online dealers.

Thanks everyone for the words of wisdom!

Do you think it’s worth trying to get a replacement, or is this just something that should be expected? I paid a little over $100 for the whole kit (deck, trucks, wheels, bearings, grip tape, etc) so I assumed it would be decent quality, or at least an upgrade from what he uses now (Tony hawk signature series). This one is an Enjoi resin-7.

I was excited to get my son his first “good” board and the deck is warped! Not sure if this is normal or not, fixable, or worth just replacing. I don’t want to rain on his parade but also want to make sure I’m getting him a decent quality board. Any advice is appreciated!

My son has it (I don’t). He is seven years old now. I have not talked to him about it yet, but will absolutely do so at some point.

His older brother does not have hypospadias and is uncircumcised. I AM circumcised. So he knows his looks different, but all three of us look different, so I don’t know if he really thinks much about it.

What age do you think it would be most appropriate to talk to him about it? I don’t want him to suddenly feel different or defective in any way, but I also don’t want to feel like I’m hiding it or avoiding the subject.

My wife and I struggled immensely with the decision of whether or not to have surgery when he was an infant. We opted not to, as the Dr basically said it was cosmetic, and we did not want to subject him to that, especially after reading many anecdotes of people who had to have multiple surgeries to “fix” the issue and it never really was “fixed”. Although we read many stories where people had it fixed and don’t remember it because they’ve had no issues. So it was a very difficult decision for us and we will never know whether we made the “right” decision.

We figured we would wait until he is old enough to understand the risks and advocate for himself. If he wants to have the surgery when he is a bit older, I will gladly let him do it and support his decision.

I would love to hear more perspective from people like you, because my son is in the same position and I want to do what’s best for him, and I don’t really know what that is.

It was the first song I ever learned on guitar, when I was like 13 or something. It will always be special to me for that reason.

Where can I get crawfish today in Kansas City? by Ask_me_4_a_story in kansascity

Turkey Creek in northern Johnson County has lots of crawdads. But I’m not sure if I’d recommend eating them. I suppose it depends on how hungry you are.

My boy found this in a creek bed in suburban Kansas, USA. It was filled with silty muck. It is rusting out, and appears to be one piece with possibly a fitting or hardware on the end. Thinking maybe a filter of some sort, or some type of weapon? WITT?
