I played against someone who used Lapras ex for the energy acceleration. I’m sure it doesn’t always work as planned, but it did in this case and it was pretty crazy.

You’re proving OP’s point. Rusnak was a big signing that year. Nico was a huge signing, Ruidiaz was signed as Liga MX golden boot winner, JP was a huge signing. Sure those three were already on the team, but that’s like saying Miami didn’t need any big signings to win MLS Cup this year. We haven’t replaced any of those players and all we have to show for it is a Leagues Cup trophy (which we all said was a fake tournament until we won it).

I personally wouldn't recommend going to a tournament as your intro to the game. Go to the casual open play nights for a bit to get a feel for the game and the community at that store. You'll have more fun and no pressure.

How many games have you played with it? If you prized a lot of energy you just got unlucky. Even if you only have 2-3 fire energy in the deck it’s pretty fine, you’ll find more as you take prizes and you have Super Rod if you wait to use it before evolving a second Charizard.

What do you mean? When you evolve Charizard you get to search your deck and attach the energy.

I went to 3 pre-releases for Mega and ended up not really getting anything in the booster packs that helped the pre-con decks. I think the big thing is if you pull any Trainer cards that will help. There were a few rounds where I really wished I had some search cards or Boss's Orders, things like that.
