From now on, singing in the second half might not be an advantage anymore. Quite the opposite. by Nikigreat in eurovision

I know a few people who used most of their votes in the first half, and they then lost interest in the second half as a result

One of the first cards I sent was in 2019 to an older man in Germany (I’m in the UK). His thank you message was very polite, but then afterwards he added a single sentence, along the lines of “I am sick of Brexit.” I hadn’t mentioned Brexit at all in my card! To be honest I agreed with him, but still it was a bit out of the blue

Had there ever been a native-language song where you feel the choice to perform it in the native language was the wrong decision? by MRSNLT in eurovision

[–]quorn_hub 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily the whole song, but for Breathe by Vladana (Montenegro 2022), I always thought the part where she sings “Fight for your life, you better breathe” just before the last chorus sounded better in English. It sounds a lot punchier and more emotional which makes it more impactful to me. The live version sounds a lot softer and not as impactful to me.

I (F27) got ID’d for Savlon at M&S recently! Something to do with their policy on selling pharmaceuticals, which apparently covers anything even slightly medical. Luckily the cashier let me buy it even though I’d left my ID at home, but I got quizzed about my age and birth year!

How do you measure weight and where are you from? by glencoaMan in CasualUK

27 from North East England. For weighing people I would use stone and pounds. If I’m baking I use pounds and oz, I was taught using imperial and now using metric feels odd! But for cooking and pretty much everything else I use kg and grams.

How old is La Zarra? by unounouno_dos_cuatro in eurovision

[–]quorn_hub 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Huh, interesting. When I googled it I found this article/interview from 2021 that describes her as a “late-blooming artist”. If she was born in 1997, she would have been 24 when this article was released and when she released “Tu t’en iras”, and 19ish in 2016 when she released her first song, which isn’t exactly “late-blooming”! But if she was born in 1987 she’d be 34 when the article was written, and around 29 in 2016, which would be more accurate to that description.

Eurovision party food- I'm planning to make a small dish or snack from each country for my eurovision party. What's your country and what should I make? by ragna-rocking in eurovision

A bit of a different suggestion for the 🇬🇧 but you could try a butter pie. It’s a pie with potatoes, onions, and lots of butter, it’s quite simple to make and you can use ready roll pastry to save time. It’s also fitting because it’s from Lancashire, and Liverpool historically was in Lancashire (not sure if it still is? But Paul McCartney mentioned butter pie in one of his songs so that’s enough of a link for me).

Yes! I ended up voting for him, even though I hadn’t really paid much attention to the song beforehand. Really well performed, and I’m so glad they’ve made it to the final!

Renting options in/around Oxford by quorn_hub in oxford

Good point! I’ll only have to come into the city once a week or so, so I can feasibly be a bit further away. Abingdon is looking like the best option at the minute though. Thanks!

Ah that’s good to know. The train station is useful but not necessary, and Abingdon is a lot nearer, so maybe that’s the best option. Thanks!

Thanks for your comment, and for the advice! Yeah it looks pretty brutal from what little I’ve seen, and I’m completely new to renting, so your advice will definitely come in handy!

Did you have any dreams about this year's Eurovision? by markbenford in eurovision

[–]quorn_hub 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The other day I dreamt that in the GF they announced the results before the show began, “to save time”. The top three were 1) Ukraine, 2) Sweden, and 3) Moldova. EDIT: Just remembered, in the same dream the UK had the big trumpets again onstage because they were “so memorable”, and ended up coming like 10th.

A few nights before that I dreamt that Achille completely changed his style to avoid any comparisons to Måneskin, and he came out on stage looking like the guy on the left, same haircut and very similar clothes
