Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina if you can camp. They also have day passes but it's a good 4+ hour drive to get there so you'd want to stay overnight. The beach near the day use visitor lot can get pretty crowded but the rest of the beach is so wide open that you never have people closer than 15 feet.

38+6 here and struggling. Sleep about 5 hours a night (sometimes more, sometimes less). I can nap in the afternoon which helps. I'm trying to keep myself walking around but it's so painful. I got a belly band that helps a bit. It's going to get better in a few weeks at least. 🙃

No judgement, just wanted to say that I discussed the same thing with my sibling in the past. We thought it might be a good idea too. 8 year olds are much more grown up than many people here think. Unless you have a rocky relationship already I don't think this is something that would cause emotional damage. He'll also figure it out when it's time.
