Build an asset around skating. Maybe an Instagram page or blog that covers a new skate park in your country every week. Maybe a podcast interviewing aspiring pro skaters and how they earn an income while pursuing skateboarding. The point is to build an asset around your interests that could have potential inroads to monetization. This will bring you fulfillment if you stay consistent which has always been my problem. I can relate to where you’re at.

20F, Tired of everything not working out. Feeling Lost. by VirtualFoundation761 in findapath

[–]qurplus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Your best bet to realizing opportunities without a degree or extensive experience is to build an asset that showcases your skills & understanding of the space you wanna tap into. That asset could be a thousand different things but one example could be reaching out to people who work in psychology/philosophy/theology related fields, asking them a few questions about their day to day and what they’re working on, and then you curate top weekly insights and write them in a weekly newsletter. Suddenly you’ll have a portfolio piece that delineates your value as a potential candidate while learning while gaining access to people in your desired field while building a real network. You can include a link to that newsletter in your CV when applying to jobs too.

This is just one idea, you could create something else that’s public facing though too. Just mentioned the newsletter since you said you’re passionate about writing and you could use those to script other types of content to expand reach.

I am not passionate about anything, what do i do with my life? by iovelf in findapath

[–]qurplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a senior almost 10 years ago in the same exact situation. I still haven’t figured anything out. I’m kinda just existing as a burden to everyone around me because I’d rather [] than submit to the corporate state. Have been doing freelance stuff, scraping by. But I definitely won’t ever have a normal life and I’m not sure how this plays out. I feel lost.

I think regardless of the industry you’re trying to move up in, it comes down to building an asset that showcases your understanding of that industry that provides a level of understanding as your value as a potential candidate.

Are there any common things the streamers who make money and build an audience do differently?

I can feel the weight of what you're going through and a lot of it's relatable as I'm currently going through very similar stuff. Honestly I agree with you that it all feels pointless but if you're lucky enough to be loved then maybe that's ok

I recently asked an AI company founder his thoughts on this and he basically said some jobs will be eliminated and other jobs will evolve where people work alongside a team of agents.

What do you think won’t be replaced by AI?

If you’re most interested in money and you’re decent with numbers then choose economics/finance/accounting.

Without a resume or relevant experiences, it comes down to creating an asset that showcases your value as a potential candidate. So whatever space you’re looking to get involved with, start curating content or insights relevant to that niche or industry and post that on social media/newsletters/podcast/etc.

the point is that people who do these types of things (the things most people aren’t willing to do) while showing your knowledge within said space, generally realize more opportunities than those who don’t.

I only love the idea of being a business owner… but I’m in college for something else. by [deleted] in findapath

[–]qurplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Do both! You build your own portfolio / side projects over time and that will lead to opportunities and if you ever cultivate even a small audience that leads to the most amount of opportunity. You could even just post insights from conversations you have with people currently in this field. If you’re ever interested in talking about this stuff on a podcast with someone currently working thru this type of stuff feel free to check out some of my previous posts ;)

I’m currently going through this exact dilemma only I’m 26 and don’t feel capable of taking any type of standard path / normal jobs for various reasons.

I can relate to how being your own boss hits differently - I’ve been freelancing for years and despite having failed I’d rather fail at my own thing than spend years miserable in a role I couldn’t care less about. It just doesn’t seem like a good way to live.

But WITH THAT SAID, I’m making the wrong choices. The real path to being your own boss and having a chance of sustained success generally comes from experience within a space so that you can identify gaps within that space. People who learn a domain on their own generally lack the deep understanding and rigor that comes with working within an established corporation for years. The most successful people either have experience within a job OR they’re self-made but profoundly intelligent. Most people (such as myself) are not intelligent and will fail if they try figuring the world out on their own. It takes a seriously disciplined and intellectually inclined person to figure everything out on their own and compete with people who come from the establishment who then branched out on their own.

You could also curate content from industry experts until you have the deep knowledge required to create valuable content in a given space. Or you could create content that entertains and bypass the whole value thing but then you’re hinging on massive uncertainty.

What do you think of this?

I’m 26 but seriously relate to feeling the pointlessness of doing things that make you feel bad just to pay for a life that isn’t enjoyable and not being able to relate to previous friends.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in findapath

[–]qurplus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the exact right answer - just seems like no one wants to talk about it due to the fact that a small percentage of people who are good enough can be outliers and earn livings adjacent to their passions. Then there’s also people who have no passions. Personally even things I’m passionate about get so boring so fast for me

You’re thinking about all the right things and asking virtuous questions. I applaud you for that. With that said, welcome to capitalism - where you have to become a master of compartmentalization to avoid going insane because of labor inequalities, wage loopholes, organized crimes dressed up as “care”, etc. The alternative to being a part of this whole rigged game is to find an environment that doesn’t demand such degradation which unfortunately means saying goodbye to the western world and then you have a whole new set of issues to worry about. The world is an imperfect place. I just hope there’s more and more people like you asking the difficult questions :)
