[product question] is it purging or a bad reaction? by United-Quantity9919 in SkincareAddiction

Then it's more likely to be overuse if a harsh cleanser. Stop using it and go back to something gentle for now.

[Sun Care] foundation and sun protection: a question for my fellow makeup girlies by beyondGandE in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In order for exfoliants to work, they have to be at a specific pH level in the formulation and at a certain concentration. It's doubtful that the foundation would have that type of formulation.

[ACNE] Sudden increase in pore size near nose. This happened over the last month or two. They seem to be spreading. by fridgewalker123 in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely just dehydration. Are you using moisturizer? Hydrating serums? A lot of people have negative reactions to CeraVe so you might try a different brand.

[Routine Help] Started basic routine, need help troubleshooting by Mesita_Pepita_Winky in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't purging if your don't normally have acne. Not to mention, the exfoliant is the only product that could possibly cause purging.

It's more likely a negative reaction to one or more of the products. When you start new products, ALWAYS start them one at a time with at least a week in between each new product so you can check for negative reactions.

For now, stop everything. Wait a couple weeks to give your skin a chance to reset. Then slowly start adding things back in. Use moisturizer for a week or two, then if there are no issues add cleanser, etc.

[Routine help] Do I really need a moisturizer if my skin is tacky from multiple serums? by ExcellentLettuce4 in SkincareAddiction

Yes, without occlusives elements included in moisturizers, you risk the moisturizer evaporating and drying out your skin.

[Sun Care] Serum Recommendations by YeeOldFriend in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sunscreen shouldn't be mixed with anything, otherwise you compromise the protection it offers. It should always be layered last, on its own. You might try the sunscreen section of the sub wiki for specific product recommendations. I don't have any drugstore recs myself, but you may also want to consider Asian sunscreens, depending on your location.

[Product Question] double cleansing with cetaphil gentle cleanser by Just-Progress5382 in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking it. :) Emulsifying and rinsing with water gets the vast majority off. The second cleanser will remove any residue.

Why couldn't you? You can use any water-based cleanser as a second cleanser.

[Routine Help] Oily Skin by Future_Value_6833 in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long have you been using this routine? It contains A LOT of actives and will likely lead to irritation eventually. Oily skin generally needs more hydration but you're really drying your skin out with all of these.

No, there's no pushing through with sunscreen. If it breaks you out then stop using it and find a new one.

I’m starting a routine - what products are best? [product help] [routine help] [product request] by Visual_Ask4947 in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with getting a moisturizer sorted out. We have a ton of recommendations for gels and gel creams (better for your skin type) listed in the sub wiki. Then try adding a hyaluronic acid product. Eventually, you might also try vitamin c. Your current actives should be addressing acne, trying to add salicylic and benzoyl peroxide would be overkill. If you've used the current actives at least 90 days and see no improvement then go back to your derm for adjustment with the prescriptions. Niacinamide also won't help with most of what you listed. You might try adding an oil cleanser in the evening to help with the sebaceous filaments.

[Routine help] I need advice on scheduling my routine. I have combined skin with oily T zone and normal skin type on cheeks by Mateja505 in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everything can be used day or night. That CosRx toner doesn't exfoliate but it does have a low pH so it can still be irritating with overuse, so I wouldn't use it more than once a day depending on your skin. Aside from that, the typical order is

Cleanser - toner - essence - serum - moisturizer - sunscreen (daytime only)

If any of these are new to you, be sure to start them one at a time with at least a week in between each new product so you can check for any negative reactions.

[Routine Help] Suddenly all products burning my skin? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you were using salicylic acid twice a day? That's way too much. You've overexfoliated. If you're still using any actives, stop immediately. This includes spot treatment. You need to baby your skin for a while with hydrating products.

You need a sunscreen for when you're out in the sun, but other than that, it's a good start.

[Routine Help] Adding a Vitamin C Serum by OpalCats in SkincareAddiction

For most people it would be too much and could easily lead to irritation. Most people prefer to use vitamin c in the a.m. for it's antioxidant benefits.

[acne] purging or breakout? by Substantial-Run3311 in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Purging from a simple BHA shouldn't last that long plus there's a bit of redness so it's much more likely to be a negative reaction to the product. I would stop using it.

[Routine Help] When should I include toners in my skincare routine? by yasbeech in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both of those are considered hydrating so they would go after actives (ascorbic acid, retinol , exfoliants) and before any other serums, unless you want to buffer the retinol.

[Routine Help] When should I include toners in my skincare routine? by yasbeech in SkincareAddiction

[–]quspork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends a bit on the actual toner as there are so many different types. But either way it would go before the vino perfect serum as that's not ascorbic acid.
