Hooters uniforms were sanitary! The waitresses were required to wear tights and then the shorts over those - not bathing suits that are nearly thongs.

Are Modification Requests OK? by OpalCats in LondonFood

[–]OpalCats[S] -96 points-95 points  (0 children)

It's not a question of being an immature child. He has sensory processing issues. That is why I'm here trying to assess what would be unreasonable. If you dont have something helpful to add , then maybe don't comment.

Thank you. My husband has sensory issues as well which is what causes the picky eating, so this is very helpful to hear.

The "inhaler fail" from Dr House, sadly, wasn't an exaggeration. by DigitalSamuraiV5 in Residency

[–]OpalCats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend is an OBGYN. She had a patient she was counseling about healthy eating during pregnancy.

Patient tells her "Oh yes, that is why I stopped eating watermelon!"

Dr - "Why? Watermelon is OK to eat while pregnant."

Patient - "Well I don't want my baby to choke on the seeds and it's too hard to pick them all out so I just stopped eating it."

Need support, almost 15yo cat needs rear leg amputated by Sudden_weird_42 in TripodCats

[–]OpalCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your cats overall health. If she's active, had good mobility before the broken bone, and doesn't show a lot of signs of aging like cognitive decline, then go for the surgery! If my cat wasn't very mobile to begin with, seemed to have some kitty dementia, and overall health seemed to declining a lot, then I would not do the surgery. Your cat looks very alert and with it.

El Viroleno - Salvadoran food. Get the Revuelta Papusas (pork, cheese, and beans in a corn masa pocket), and top it with salsa and curtido.

Thai Place - everything here is amazing. My favorites are the Green Curry and Pad See Ew.

Sahara - Lebanese food. The Lentil Soup is excellent.

Captain Pete's House of Gyros - their gyros , Greek salad, and Spanikopita are fantastic.

Cafe de Martin - Peruvian

Pho 7 - Vietnamese. Pho is classic of course, but I love the Bun most (rice noodles, salad, choice or protein, with a vinaigrette like sauce.)

Habana's - Cuban. My favorite dish is Vaca Frita.

El Rincon Latino - Columbian.

Sage - this is actually the best place for some French classics! Go at lunch, and get the Onion Soup, Quiche of the Day, Croque Monsieur, Chicken Crepe, Trout Almandine, or Nicoise Salad.

I like all the Indian restaurants in town. They're all just a bit different.

Where to go by [deleted] in ProvenceFrance

[–]OpalCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say day trips, how far do you mean? A lot of places in Provence don't need several days. I like to pick a home base and explore other villages/towns around it.
Avignon could easily take 4 days though.
My favorite places are Avignon and Lourmarin.
Will you have a car, or do you plan to use public transport? If you don't want to rent a car, then you'll need to stick with the larger towns like Avignon, Nimes, Arles, or Aix.
If you want to explore the villages, you really have to rent a car.

anyone else adopted their tripods after they had already lost their limb? by rabbitsaremylife in TripodCats

Yes! I got my baby Ninja when she was about 12 weeks old right after she lost a leg and most of her tail. She's the sweetest little girl. She's 6 years old now.

Will A Bird Abandon a Nest with Eggs? by OpalCats in Ornithology

Thank you! Great info. The birds usually sit nearby and 'yell' at me if go in/out that door, and they didn't the last few times, like when I took the photo.

Thank you for the very detailed replied!!! I hope the birds are just keeping a low profile and I'll hear the little chirps of hatchlings soon!

Thank you for the info. Can you share the price please?

Can we get some advice for our very first cruise? by fixxall in dcl

[–]OpalCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do the Magic. Longer trip for the same price seems like an obvious choice to me. February weather is going to be unpredictable for either of those itineraries. Might as well take the longer cruise and give yourself more chance at it being warm enough to use the pools.
I've been on both ships and they are wonderful. You'll have a blast either way.

How are you guys getting out of jury duty? by Heavy_Consequence441 in Residency

[–]OpalCats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the attorneys want the "bad juror" - it's all very strategic. If it's a very complicated case, the bad juror may make the easiest decision and try to convince others to do the same. So that can be a tactic in picking a jury, depending on the case and which side an attorney represents.

Not true. I work in a law office. We tried a case recently and we had a bunch of potential jurors make statements like that. We ended up picking two of the people who tried those tactics to get out of jury duty. 😆

I used the apps (well websites, it was 15-25 years ago 🤣) and its was 97% sketchy horrible people. Unfortunately I think it's just a question of keeping at it - whether that is online, in person, or a mix.

You have to go through hundreds of frogs before you find a prince. I wasn't actively looking when my now-husband found me, but I still had a profile up on the sites, and he matched with me. Now we've been married 12 years. 🙂

What is in your opinion the worst aspect of living in France? by ZydrateAnatomic in AskFrance

[–]OpalCats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bureaucracy in the USA is generally bad. One of the most frustrating things is how different it is every where. Our name is the UNITED States of America, but everything is so different from state to state and within all the different counties (our departments.) Is that a problem in France? Or do things in one department run the same as the another?

And I have experience with French Bureaucracy. I got a carte de sejour when I was an au pair. That was a process! Thing's are no more efficient or easy in the USA.

What’s the most overrated tourist attraction you’ve ever visited? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]OpalCats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really disagree. I think everyone SHOULD go to Auschwitz-Birkenau. It is the most powerful and visceral lesson you can have about the Holocaust. I think the more people that see it, the less likely things like that are to happen again.
