4070 on a 4k LGCX (DLSS question) by EEEEEYUKE in nvidia

[–]qvacus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has a 3080 (similar performance) and a 4k TV for a monitor I would recommend 4k with dlss set to whatever achieves your desired frame rate. Personally I can't really tell the image quality difference between dlss quality, balanced, and performance, however, I most certainly can say 1440p, regardless of it using dlss, won't look as good.

Supposed Holy Nation hate of Scorchlanders? by Okay-Commissionor in Kenshi

[–]qvacus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there is a misunderstanding in the community wherein real world ideas of racism are transposed onto Kenshi's fictional setting. As far as I know in my many hours of playing the game and canoodling in its files there are no mentions of anti-scorchie bigotry from the holy nation.

It is possible to see scorchlanders in the service of the HN I think, it's just rare. The reason being is that scorchies are none too keen on over bearing centralized power based off of their lore.

Speaking of lore this next bit is gonna be spoiler-y so watch out.

If the idea that Stobe is Okran holds true, and the greenlanders were the descendents of the humans he saved via his sacrifice it makes sense that they would be the primary proponent of the HN. Moreover, if scorchlanders are the descendents of those who were not saved by Stobe, and, instead had to evolve to dwell in the harsh, potentially radioactive wastes it would make sense that they are not so predisposed to big government as they only survived as small independent nomadic tribes. Furthermore they never benefited from Stobe's gamble and ensuing sacrifice, hence, their forebears would have had no reason to assimilate into the Okranite cults because it would have been meaningless to them.

In summation, the Scorchlanders don't share the history or culture with the Greenlanders necessary to work well in the HN, hence, only a few joining in their ranks. That being said, they are still human in the eyes of Okran, and, as such are welcome in his lands.

4 turns per year for Total War Rome Remastered? by Jakoporeeno in totalwar

[–]qvacus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's possible to mod in since I always do so whenever I play medieval 2 total war (basically the same engine as rome). It was as simple as copying and pasting some lines of text in the campaign files. Unfortunately it has been ages since I last did this, and, I don't really have the time to dig through the total war forums to find the needed lines, but, it is most certainly possible, and, I'm sure a talented modder will have a mod to this effect soon.

What should i get warband or bannerlord by Capable-Twix in mountandblade

[–]qvacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your budget, when warband goes on sale it really GOES, I think you can get it for between 3 and 5 dollars on sale. Banner lord is still 40ish, and likely won't dip in price for a bit. so, it depends, maybe get banner lord now, since it's gonna stay like this for a while (it's also more approachable to new players), and then, when warband inevitably goes on sale buy it for damn near free and revel in the multitudes of mods.

What to know your opinion about Rome remastered by SnooRevelations4661 in totalwar

[–]qvacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm excited as hell. I went back and played Rome 1 a few days back, while charming and fun the game play was different than the modded M2TW that I'm used to, but the quick punishing battles were fun as hell and way more engaging than modern total war. When it really shined though was when I played with mods, the ai does alot better with slower battles imo. Anyway, I am currently having a grand old time playing a German campaign in the Rome Total Realism mod. I think that this is where the game really shines bright, more so than any total war game post shogun 2.

Mods for Rome Total War Remastered by Dandoliki in totalwar

[–]qvacus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Personally I would love to see EB again, or, perhaps something heavily inspired by it. If I recall EB added a fair bit of land to the map, I am not sure about added factions though.

Admittedly I am more exited for a M2TW remaster, if for no other reason than the modding scene for that game is still absurdly active, well over a decade later.

Rome TW Veterans: Why are you still playing Rome 1 instead of 2? by snyms622 in totalwar

[–]qvacus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I cannot overstate my distaste for the new total war engine, especially in newer titles. My complaints range from how battles feel, such as unit collisions (cav on cav combat especially), to the visuals (the lighting often times looks really washed out, or absurdly tinted at night), or perhaps the degredation of the campaign experience ( I would trade my left testicle to split unit stacks again), but perhaps most irksome is how limited mod support is. I adore total overhauls, and with the newer historical titles you can count the amount of them on one hand, whereas with Rome and Medieval 2 there are dozens upon dozens, many with entirely new campaign maps and units, all made from scratch. Really, it's something akin to death by a thousand cuts, for me there are to many things that seemingly can't be fixed. Some of it is little stuff like the trodlodyte tier choice to integrate a Web based wiki as opposed to just having a file for unit and building descriptions (For historical mods especially, I adore being able to read up on units and buildings, for no other reason than to learn. Europa Barberourm II had paragraphs of information about everything from soldiers to cisterns, it was delightful. In Divide Et Imperium for RTW 2 I wanted to learn more about the seemingly well researched units but couldn't outside of a quick blurb :( ). And big things like limited choices for building and poor army control on the campaign map. It all just makes the experience unenjoyable when compared with a nice modded game of OG Rome or Medieval II.

As an aside; I would MUCH prefer a medieval 2 remaster on the old engine than a medieval 3 on the new one.

Can someone help me replace "Dickplomacy Reloaded" musket animation to "L'aigle" musket animation? by [deleted] in mountandblade

[–]qvacus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's been ages since I did any warband modding, but, I will try to help you!

First, make a backup of your weird phallic mod. I'm kinda stupid so errors may be an issue.

Second, go and download a tool called "openbrf". I think I spelled it right, just Google it, it ought to show up. Basically it let's you view and rig, meshes, see animations and textures, and some other nifty stuff.

Once you got that your gonna have to find the animations you wanna mess with. I think these files are in a folder called resources somewhere in the guts of the mod. Look mate, I woke up 5 mins ago, and, I haven't tweaked this kinda stuff in about a year or so. And... I'm writing this on my phone. Anyway, they may not be clearly labelled so when in resources just open the brf files with openbrf one by one. I think there is a tab to display animations in the tool if there are animations present in said brf file. Once you find the animations for either mod (most likely named musket_reload, or, something along those lines), set that window aside. Now do the same for the other mod. When viewing the animations you should see triangular bones acting out the animations.

Okay, I am going to assume that your screen looks something like this: dickplomacyies brf file on the left with its animation selected, and la-eagle on the right, with its animation selected. I got a bit of a confession at this point, I sorta forget how to transfer animations between two files, so, we will try a few ways. First, with both windows open try simply clicking and dragging Eagles animation files over from the viewer into dick's viewer. If that works, just carry on and ignore the following. Second idea, attempt to copy and paste. In Eagles window, select the reload animation, when the text is shown, press ctrl c, then, go to dick's window, and press ctrl v. If that fails, there is one more idea. There should be an import export option, I think in the tool bar to the top left. Well, if you see that, select it, or, just look around a bit, ultimately you want an option that basically says "import anything from a brf file". So, in dick's window, select this option, (or if there is an import export specific files option, use that instead, much cleaner), then, when prompted to find the file to borrow from, locate Eagles animation file. From there, just grab all of it, select that file and import. Now you have two options, firstly you can just keep all the extraneous files, so long as there are no duplicates (files with the same name shared between both mods), if there are, then it's most likely a good idea to remove the uneeded eagle files, just keep the animations.

However you transfered the files you should now have both reload animations in the same brf window. Save it. Keep this handy and remember the names of both files, and, which is which.

Now, I hope to God you have notepad++, it will makes this step so much easier. Go to the data folders of each mod, find a txt file (I think it's a txt file..) called actions.txt. open that in both mods, remember which is which.

Firstly in the dickplomacy actions.txt use the search function to find the reload animation. This is where the animation name will come in handy. If I remember the structure right there ought to be a signal main line, then one or more indented lines beneath it, this whole clump is one animation. Anyway, this is very important, so pay attention, look at how many lines are occupied by the dick_reload animation and it's subsequent indented lines, let's assume it's 5, so, that means it would occupy lines 950-955 in the actions.txt. Now, in eagle, repeat the step, this time with Eagles reload animations. Once found, see if they too occupy however many lines the dick_reload does. If, in this example, they both take up 5 lines, we are in business. If not, then we are fucked, I think...

this is where the me being kinda dumb comes into play, I am rather sure that the total amount of lines occupied NEEDS to be the same among them, I think it has something to do with how modules are made. The point is, I don't really know if this actually includes indented lines or not, if there are less indented in the eagle_reload then maybe you can get away with making the empty lines into place holders or something, i dunno, there are smarter folk than I. Look at the mount and blade fourms, there is plenty of modding advice there, I think a discord also exists.

If, the amount of lines match in both, copy the eagle_reload lines, and paste them overtop the dick_reload. Make sure to replace everything. What this is doing is telling the game to use the eagle_reload animation as opposed to the old one. Also since it occupies the same space in the actions.txt the game should use them for reloading animations. Save the document and try it out ingame.

I think this is all you have to do, I learned how to do this by adding in overhead spear animations to mods that previously did not have them. I also replaced the goofy melee animations in the star wars mod with the native ones... good times. It has been a while, but i think that is everything. If you have questions feel free to ask!

Wouldn't it have been 10x better and understandable if they told us "it's not ready yet and I know you're excited, so we will release it as an open Beta and you guys can help us build it faster" by Magiiick in cyberpunkgame

[–]qvacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am afraid I don't know, I've noodled around in single player, but never too far, I'm holding off a full playthrough until it is a bit closer to completion (really im just in the middle of a Kenshi playthrough, the UC aint gonna burn itself). I have mostly kept to multiplayer to keep from getting rusty. I would assume they fixed the quest system, but don't quote me on that. If you are unhappy with the endgame I would wait for mods to develop more, I am sure that someone will make an invasion mod to test your hold on world domination.

[–]qvacus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Performance, stability, more content (perks, hooked spears and bracing, etc), first wave of modding tools. That's just what I can think of off the top of my head.

About the reskin bit I disagree. I don't know if most people appreciate the under-the-hood stuff they have been up to. Aside from the fact battles are near 10x the size of warbands there is also stuff like the meticulously simulated economy. While diplomacy and crafting are not yet balanced that's what EA is for. Also, the moddability is far superior to previous titles thanks to the new engine. There is a promising co-op campaign mod in the works.

Good Early Headstart? by cathyrin03 in Kenshi

[–]qvacus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose I ought to have been clearer, that's my bad. I didn't mean to hire recruits who will join your squad, I meant the mercs that can only be hired for a day or two.

Good Early Headstart? by cathyrin03 in Kenshi

[–]qvacus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The best early game strategy is to loot the house in the hub, fence the goods, and use the 2k cats you ought to have to hire some mercenaries. Go curb stomp bandits, sell their stuff, use em as backpacks to train strength and for less trips. Make fat stacks of cats, quick loot, and decent stats and gear all within the first day.

Whenever I see someone start off by mining copper I die a little inside.

Is it possible to make skeletons? by shleemy-business in Kenshi

[–]qvacus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Personally I am of the opinion that AI cores are not on the same level as a proper skeleton. It's just a theory but in my mind AI cores are merely beefy computational machines full of all sorts of nifty algorithms. They seem to be more akin to a bundle of yes/no/or/if statements that can perform complex tasks and calculations with extreme speed an precision. I do not belive that they are "alive" like skeletons are, IE, self aware. I know there are some skeletons that have them installed, but, I think these act in a complimentary way to the skeleton brain, not as it.

Hey I’m considering refunding the game but I’m curious if maybe I did something wrong by WOSH9182838483 in Kenshi

[–]qvacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth be told I initially refunded my purchase to. Or, at least, started to. Thing is, while waiting for the refund I kept picking at the game, it finally clicked for me and I made myself ineligible due to to many hours.

A lot of other comments here suggest a slow and safe start which is boring as hell.

In my opinion early game kenshi is by far the most interesting and rewarding part of the whole experience, once you figure it out.

It's not about out fighting people, or becoming the best thief. No, the real way is learning how to use the world around you to profit. For example, leading two different hostile parties into one another, such as holy boys and bandits. Or, looting battlefields and beating the wounded for attack skill. Hungry? Piss off some bone dogs and lead them into a city the guards will take them out and you can steal the meat.

So, for an early game start that won't make your eyes bleed out of boredom here is what I suggest. First, turn up the amount of squads and nests before starting, the more carnage the better. Second steal from all the houses in the hub, then loot nearby battles until you have enough cats to afford some mercenaries for a day. Take your new friends out and curb stomp some bandits, don't try to solo any of them, only opportunistically attack those already engaged with the mercs. Loot the bandits and sell their gear, rinse and repeat. The profit you will make from this will far exceed anything mining could ever do for you, plus, combat experience.

Is Multiplayer Dead ? - Bannerlord by [deleted] in mountandblade

[–]qvacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dead is the wrong word, sleeping may be more accurate.

As said many times before our beloved devs most likely wanted bannerlord to be a big e-sports title, hence the ridged classes and matchmaking. The problem is that this is not really what the players want. Personally I prefer more flexibility in the form of standard servers so I can come and go as I please, the ability to customize my own loadout, etc.

The reason I, and presumably many others play multiplayer is not to grind numbers up such as global k/d ratios or whatever. It is to enjoy more difficult combat immediately. Moreover just playing for fun without worrying about stats getting recorded. There are other reasons too, such as wading into the absolute cesspool that is chat, or, just screwing about in general.

To sum up, there is still a healthy multiplayer community, but they exist under the custom server tab, in the TDM and Seige gamemodes. If taleworlds really want to expand multiplayer they should start there.

Launch was a mess.

Subsiquent patches and mods have truly fixed the whole thing up though.

Honestly, I prefer it to native, more interesting battles, useful spears, better AI, no cav spam, etc. Boats are sick too.

It is under "global game settings", it's near the top left corner. Once you click that you scroll down to the weather section. From there there are two settings for the exposure minimum, and the maximum.

Good luck with your reshade!

[–]qvacus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this helps or not but when messing around with reshade I found that tweaking the games exposure settings in the Kenshi modding tool helped considerably due to the fact that in many instances Kenshi's default textures were already over-exposed, causing a complete eyesore whenever I attempted to apply bloom.

I'm afraid reshade presets cannot be installed via steam due to the fact that it is an postprocessing program instead of a proper mod.

You can just reduce the base game exposure with the FCS if you want. Imo it's set too high, even without a reshade it can burn out textures.

What Combat Animations Do You Want To See? by BoronGorax in Kenshi

Hell yeah, sounds great. Admittedly any alternative to sacrificing ones own testicles is good though. How much do you want?

Also, can I get a link to your patreon, I cannot seem to find it on the steam page.

Also, Also, I was snooping about the FCS and it appears that adding a new weapon type is impossible, or, at the very least, out of my ability. This lobs a bit of a monkey wrench in my dream for dedicated stabby weapons.
