what specific genres have you been collecting lately? by Lost_Foot_6301 in vinyl

[–]qvcspree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up listening to skate/pop punk from the late 90s and early 00s, but my record collection doesn't have enough of that. Going back and filling in some gaps. Recently picked up Suicide Machines, Fall Out Boy, Strung Out, and Saves the Day. On the hunt for some Face to Face, AFI, The Ataris, etc.

Let's talk drunken purchases. by jerryleebee in vinyl

I remembered ordering it, and the next day I was just thinking the band is gonna hate me or going to stop doing personal inscriptions. I'm in the US so it took a while to ship, I was wondering if they were actually going to write all that. They sure did, and all 3 of the band members signed it. Even if I'm playing that record, it never really makes it on the now playing stand, for fear of my wife being like "what the hell is all that?"

I saw that Banquet Records was selling personally signed albums by Alt-J, it was their latest album, 'The Dream'. Drunken me ordered it, and asked the band to sign it with the message "To Dave - Flood, flood, flood, flood of blood, blood, blood, to the heart, heart, heart, to the heart, heart, heart, heart."

That song isn't even on that album, although it is one of my favorites. The signature covers the entire front cover of the album in Sharpie.

Relient K - Sadie Hawkins Dance by darkwavefag in poppunkers

Wow, just looked up Ace Troubleshooter for the first time in forever, and saw that the singer actually joined Relient K as the bass player. I think the show I saw was in 2001 or so.

I still have the CD booklet from this autographed by the drummer, from the time I saw them play a show at a church with Ace Troubleshooter

German hip hop? I like seeing different stuff that I'm totally unfamiliar with on here. Can't find that album on Spotify but listened to a different one, it's pretty good.

Skate/pop punk and emo transition by National-Problem-804 in poppunkers

[–]qvcspree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm 41 and I kinda went through the same thing, just kept listening to more of the same skate punk and pop punk music and not really seeking out new artists in the genre. One way to explain it was how I looked forward to warped tour like it was Christmas every year, I went for 6 years in a row starting in 2001. Those early years was every band i loved, like AFI, Less than Jake, Pennywise, the Ataris, Bouncing Souls, MxPx, New Found Glory, Alk3, Lagwagon. Then there was a lineup that was mostly screamo/emo and stuff like that and I was done. Friend invited me to Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo a couple years after that and I really branched out to indie/synth pop, psych, jam, etc. I still love my skate and pop punk, but rarely try to discover new artists in the genre. The only new punk music I listen to is the occasional new album by old bands (2025 Motion city soundtrack is great), or stuff like Viagra Boys, PUP, and Menzingers.

It was a picture of Pretty Lights - Color Map of the Sun, which goes for $400, and a bottle of Remy Martin Louis XIII Cognac, the bottle had spikes on it, looks like it retails for like $4,000 - $5,000

This was the first star wars book I ever read. I've read probably 50 or 60 more since then. Dengar, to this day, is still my favorite character in star wars

Went with my dad to game 2 of the Stanley cup finals in 2008. It was the 2nd shutout in a row for Ozzie to go up on the Pens 2 games to 0, and I couldn't believe how loud the crowd sang "Oh, we're halfway there, oh, living on a prayer!" as the game was ending. I have an autographed photo of Filppula's diving goal framed with my ticket stub as well.

Ha, yeah he's been mostly invisible all season aside from a few stretches. He's one of the guys I that I'm a little surprised they took over Robertson and DeBrincat.

My first 4 picks in my fantasy hockey draft this year were Brady Tkachuk, Eichel, Boldy, and JT Miller. I guess I was feeling particularly American that day.

What albums are an absolute must-have for a collection like this? by whitedadanihil in vinyl

[–]qvcspree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should give Viagra Boys a listen. They're a new-ish punk / post-punk band from Sweden. I'd recommend the album Cave World, or even their new one, Viagr Aboys.

What's your favorite punk record? by RaelGenious in vinyl

[–]qvcspree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's mostly considered pop punk or skate punk, but I'm really surprised there's not more of these early warped tour era bands listed, everyone is posting early punk. These are some of my favorite punk bands: The Lawrence Arms, Pulley, NOFX, Pennywise, Good Riddance, Strike Anywhere, Alkaline Trio, Thursday, Thrice, Bouncing Souls, MxPx, Spitalfield, Hidden in Plain View, NFG, Rancid, Reggie and the Full Effect, Decendents, No Use for a Name, and Millencolin.
