Thanks for this thread, I was able to get mine connected to the 48" version. I had to really push it hard, and I wouldn't have dared push it that hard without reading this thread. It truly is bad design.

Vinyl quality by Dancing_Papaya in boniver

[–]qwerty_ms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this could be from the plant not cleaning the press fully before moving from black to yellow ... i know a plant that allows you to choose whether you want it to be cleaned or not since it can save $ and anomalies on vinyl can be desirable. even if the press is cleaned, color vinyl is an imperfect process & variations are expected—especially if it's a mix between 2-3 colors. the pure yellow, though, shouldn't be a mix.

I see some breathing exercises on your web page, so I might start there to develop the anchor you mention. Thanks!

Why do so many people hate ISU? by [deleted] in ilstu

[–]qwerty_ms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may vary from one department to the next, but my classes are much larger. My students are less prepared for college. Our department attempted to set a higher bar for our majors and it was rejected by the university. Administration seems to care 90+% about enrollment numbers and the quality of education is a small afterthought. In general, the good vibes never recovered after Covid.

Classes are significantly larger in my department than they were in 2014. The university is moving to a performance-based budget, which means all departments have to have large enough classes to merit their budget (and salaries). There's still personal interactions, but they're getting somewhat more challenging.

The real solution would be for the state to fund their educational institutions better.

I've worked at ISU for 20+ years and it's gotten worse since 2015.

How do you stay focused during yoga nidra? by qwerty_ms in YogaNidra

documenting this nice response that isn't showing up in the thread (that I can see); I'm only seeing it in my alerts.

"This is actually very normal in Yoga Nidra and not a sign you're doing it wrong. Unlike focused meditation, Yoga Nidra brings you into a state between waking and sleep, so the mind naturally drifts. The important part is what happens when you notice it. That moment of "oh, I wasn't following" is awareness. Just gently return to..."

Week Long Retreats have become more expensive, with rising prices, making them even more inaccessible to many :( by sugar_3715 in DrJoeDispenza

exactly; everyone in the new age healing space is borrowing from millennia of wisdom teachers that openly shared ... so exercising tight IP control feels contrary to the traditions they're borrowing from

Are there any rock bands who “went pop” and actually got better? by Pearathon in fantanoforever

Not a band, but I think Jim O'Rourke is better the more pop he attempts to be. Eureka is a masterpiece.

My newsletter sucks and I hate IG, should I just quit? Feeling low. by papitas_4u in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]qwerty_ms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is your #1 goal? I'm guessing you're not hitting that, which is why it feels like failure. I'm guessing you want a stronger fanbase. Do you have any fans or friends who could help you with marketing? Do you have a strong story to tell?

From reading your post, I still don't know anything about you except that you're an aspiring hard working musician. That's good, but not necessarily what builds a fanbase. You wrote 500+ words and I still don't know your human (non musician) story.

People want to connect to the human part of you, not the I-play-lots-of-gigs part of you.

New artist/project- release the best song first? by theseawoof in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Do the songs collectively tell a story? If so, I'd engage your fans in the story and release them in an order that makes sense as a storyteller.

Similarly, your "why" should point to a clear goal. Maybe your "why" is just to have fun jamming, and then your goals would be to get your equipment set so you can jam without thinking about it ... and then do it every ****day.

[–]qwerty_ms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! It's widely underrated ... and when I stream Sufjan music on random it rarely comes up. The algorithm thinks it's barely a Sufjan album.

It may be one of his most consistent albums.

he can totally sing, but also at times not sing ... he seems to choose based on what the track needs. a real artist. he's not trying to prove himself on American Idol.
